  • Does Nicotine have any benefits or not? Smoking is very unhealthy, but nicotine got a very bad rep because of it. Nicotine can be quite beneficial in some cases. Nicotine for example increases alertness and focus. Nicotine in some studies has been shown to have benefits for neurological problems like Parkinson's disease

    I love your channel so much man. There's a lot of noise surrounding the ADHD conversation and I find your channel takes a non biased approach.

    I never smoked. I'd be afraid to try the gum because I'd probably end up spending tons of money getting hooked.

      Hello Max, I tried vaping in 2014 :) Thank you for sharing your experience! Nowadays here many work places are banning smoking. Thank you so much! :)

      Please be very careful, a vaping device provides a very fast and easy delivery method for intaking nicotine, which is via inhalation.

    Yes it’s a great focus drug. No wonder seemingly everybody with ADHD is a nicotine addict, but it’s unique in that it helps you focus but relaxes you at the same time.

    I quit smoking 5 years ago, but I’ve been on and off of vaping.
    I’d like to try and quit, and see if it makes an improvement in my quality of life, but I get a very spaced out feeling when I quit and it makes it difficult to work.

      Hey, congrats on quitting smoking! Yeah quitting nicotine completely is very tough and it affects your brain and mind a lot.

    I have been somesort of partysmoker like 10 years now on. And funnily today at work, I was thinking why do I feel like smoking now?
    Hmm... cigarettebreak, oh yeah! A break! My brains just wants a break and ease off this pressure.
    But sometimes when I come from work, its f'ing nice to lit a cigarette and chill in balcony and inhale to ease the pressures of today.
    Ofcourse its not good habit, but also I know that as an ADHD-person its superhard to get over habits that will pump-up dopamine levels up!

    • @ADHDPatrick
      @ADHDPatrick  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello, oh I remember my party days, when you drink you even crave more for cigarettes :) Smoking break is nice, usually the most interesting people are there, lol . Oh yeah I used to love going to the balcony and smoke cigarette or 2, what a great feeling especially at summer night :) Yeah true....

    I think gum or patches are ok and can make your focus better. I have never smoked, but if i don't take meds i can really have better focus with nicotine. When it comes to dopamine it only mimics it not increase it unlike adhd meds.

    I was looking at this video again and I realized that as a young man, I sensed that chronic smokers were not usually mentally "basket cases" after many years of abuse, though they could have been sick in body. I always wondered why this was; so the nicotine is a protector.

    I have had a bit more learning problems when older so I wonder if that is connected to the brain making less of acetylcholine...🤔

    • @ADHDPatrick
      @ADHDPatrick  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Linda, it might be that, I myself always knew that my brain is somehow unbalanced in some function. Fortunately there are supplements that increase acetylcholine and food high in choline.

    Well I can tell you this from my experience. I don't have any craving to smoke w WHENhen I've got medication in my system such as Wellbutrin or "Zyban" in USA (used specifically for nicotine cessation) because it takes care of the chemicals that nicotine increases. I used to be a pack a day smoker yet that's been 20 years ago now. I enjoy an old man pipe but don't do it as often

    • @ADHDPatrick
      @ADHDPatrick  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Donald! I actually relapsed when I was using Wellbutrin, haha.For some people it does work since it increases dopamine & norepinehrine :) Wow thats amazing that you managed to quit after smoking so much for 20 years! I know people who have had heart attacks and still they couldnt give up smoking completely...

    • @donaldbraugh2314
      @donaldbraugh2314 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ADHDPatrick I still appreciate hearing back because it helps me fill in the dots. I would say that you probably needed serotonin desperately and is why you relapsed because I have never had a an issue when I have a serotonin medication along with Wellbutrin. For the record. I didn't quit after 20 years. I quit after 1 year a pack a day but I had escalated my youth so much that it scared me

      Yeah I think so too, I did use Lexapro after that :) Oh my bad, I didnt read your sentence correctly :) Still amazing achievement, I know from the experience that even smoking 1 month will get you hooked so bad...

    I quit smoking. However to maintain my dopamine its fir adhd I use a pure nicotine inhalator (no orescriotion). It is boring, no taste, no vapor, no inhaling just puffs delivers to cheeks to bloodstream. Nicotine has positive health benefits but as Patrick said is highly addictive per the dopamine. Autistic also food sensitivity cant use gum.

      @@ADHDPatrickHi Patrick, i am thinking u are in the u.k. ? If yes, the product there is "Nicorette Inhalator". I am in u.s. got same from canada via u.s. company. U can smoke with this if want in between..no danger of too much nicotine. Maybe u.k. one is better only thing i dislike is supposed to have menthol taste but got zero and without vapor get no sense of like inhaling, weird but does give me my nicotine hit. Well, its online. Cheers mate
