I used the police NON emergency office phone number. My call was recorded too. The SAO(prosecutor) decided to drop the entire case & dismissed my charges. The PD internal affairs did not deny or dispute the officer's actions.

    I tainted a jury during selection. Stupid case over injury on a rented property the person had lived in for several months. They wanted 12 jurors and 12 alternates for the jury so the lawyers could grill and toss. Person was wearing a neck brace. I’ve worn one. If you need one you don’t move your head much and if you do you regret it. So they send 30 of us up. Quite a few swear they can’t be objective. A few of us have legit excuses. They get 11 and I’m #29. I have a legit excuse that I put on the form the judge is looking at. I am asked if there is anything I wish to add. I said I can’t be objective, your honor, I’ve worn one of those braces and the (plaintiff) doesn’t need it. I was excused and they had to start over. It was already mid afternoon....a friend that worked there, told me it took 3 days to seat the jury. Other side’s attorney got an expert witness to say what I had and trial was over in under 20 minutes

  • @warman31
    @warman31 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Don't lie to your attorney, folks, especially in criminal cases. If you did the crime and told your attorney you didn't, they're going to spend all their efforts trying to get you off and you're going be paying the full price of for the crime. You'd much rather they work on getting you the least amount of punishment if you actually did the crime.

    18:12 I worked for private investigators, and law firms regularly hired us to do surveillance on people claiming "permanent and disabling" injuries. Unless a person is willing to dedicate 24/7 of their life to keeping up the act, they are likely to get caught. The higher the amount you're suing for, the more likely there will be at least two videos of you doing the things you said you can't. (Almost everyone lies on this one.)

    I served on a jury once, I don't really remember the selection process well, but I don't think the average person - like a janitor at the police station - would have the slightest clue about poisoning a jury. That janitor was just responding to a question. If you want to avoid poisoning a jury, then you school them in advance or you take the potentially poisonous questions in private.

    First and only time I ever went to jury duty. It was a big issue cause I don’t drive or live in a town with Uber or taxis and I had massive agoraphobia that I’ve mostly gone past now, and so it was. An. Ordeal. For me to even get there and filling out forms and watching the shittiest movie about how jury duty is gonna bring us all closer together n shit. Bored af.
    Then before we can get to the actual examination part (which is why I don’t know how it even works lmao) the lawyer comes past with a man behind him, and I can tell they’re aiming for a second door out of the room. It wasn’t being held in the courthouse cause that was under construction, we were in town hall, so that likely was the easiest way for them to get to their office to meet in. They’re going along the edge of the room to that door and the man behind him stops, comes out in front of the crowd, clears his throat and goes ‘my name is ____ and I am not guilty’.
    Which made all of us go ‘yeah. That’s exactly what a guilty man would say’. And they dismissed us for poisoning. I still to this day think he was guilty, cause he knew exactly what he was doing.

    NAL but I filed for a restraining order against a distant cousin. I had messaged her telling her not to contact any of us or we would get a lawyer. She responded by telling me the same. The hearing was to start at 3pm. Her attonery and crew stroled in 20 mins late. I am on the stand and the lawyer asks me if I am saying getting a lawyer was a threat then didn't I make the same threat? I responded That is not what I am saying the threat was but if you want to consider it as such then you need to at who followed through since your standing in front of me. That lawyer took about 3 steps back and never recovered. He kept flipping through his papers and asking the same question. The entire time my cousin is sitting under the judge(tiny courtroom) laughing and snickering. At the end the judge could not grant the restraining order (I was given the wrong paperwork) but he tore her a new one right in front of her big entourage. Even threatened to arrest her if she said anything to us. He finally had the bailiff escort us out and watch us leave before they were allowed to leave for our safety. Her family still will not say so much as hi to us because we got her in the end. My dad asked me if I was okay with it as we were leaving and I said yes because as far as I was concerned she paid a $1000 fine(The cost of her lawyer) and I stood up for my family. The bailiff talked to us later and said he had told the judge about that and the judge was impressed at how we remained professional with all of that happening.

    Really doesn't relate, but here's my jury story: Trial for a guy who broke into a house with three apartments. Owner-occupant on the first floor was a female officer who was on vacation at the time. Second floor tenant was an officer who was on duty at the time and not home. Third floor occupant was an off duty officer, awakened by the commotion, who came downstairs and scared the guys off. Trial was for one of the guys. The apartment had been left in shambles as they looked for jewelry. No fingerprints, no nothi.....wait a minute. Why is there an orange juice container in the front hall closet? That would be because the dumbfendant got thirsty during the robbery, took it from the fridge, drank it, and tossed the empty bottle, along with his DNA, into the closet. Didn't take long to find him guilty.

    I just wanna know when the lawyers ask the jurors questions to see who will sit in the jury, and the potential juror answers a question and it ends up tainting the juror pool that heard the answer, why does the person who answered a question get in trouble? like the fuck you want him to do? lie? he answered your question just because the answer isn't something u wanted everyone to hear doesn't mean the person did anything wrong.

    I was in vior dire recently for a murder charge that the defense claimed was self defense.
    There were some interesting characters, but one lady claimed she had to get off because she was an optometrist or an orthopedic doctor and her patients would, "Be in pain" without her.
    The judge was very not happy with her responses and indicated everyone was taking time out of their day to be here and unless she had an emergency, she was required to serve.
    They did drop anyone who might have leaned to or against law enforcement (including but not limited to 2 actual law enforcement officers and a father of two officers). Her husband was a deputy, but only for 2 years and it was about 15 years ago. I was very surprised that neither the prosecutor or the defense lawyer got rid of her, but the judge maybe implied at the bench she was staying.
    The only other two that were dropped not related to their feelings on cops was one guy who was not a resident (jury summons went to his business address, but his primary resident was in a different county), and one guy who was at least 55, had a cane, and was going on a trip with his wife.
    But unlike Dr., he was very polite about his wife's request to have him home for vacation. And if he was faking, he was good at it.
