    PERKINS ENTERPRISES HATS!!
    perkinsbuilder...
Join Jaime, Brett, and the Perkins Crew and follow along as they finish renovating a 100-year-old house on Main Street in Bryson City North Carolina... 120 Main Street.
We are picking up in the middle of this project, with the commercial storefront portion already finished over the last year.
On this episode, Jaime and the Guys form and pour the back patio and start the siding by installing a band board with a drip cap around rim board of the floor system. Then, after getting rained out, the crew shifts gears to some inside work... shimming and shaving all of the old inside studs so that they actually plane out to make nice walls in the finish. They even try some of the old techniques for this process, which include using a hatchet. The plumbing also starts to go in on this episode!
This is a very interesting structure, with 140-year-old house that has a brick storefront that was built off of the front to the sidewalk on Main Street. Brett and Jaime decided to keep both portions of the building and make it a multi purpose property, even though it is very interesting looking.
The back part of the property will be turned into a short term rental and will be remodeled using local and re-purposed materials! Jaime and Brett have some cool tricks to make this property look awesome for a very small budget.

Hey guys one way I fix bowd studs like those ones you're shimming is simply slap a new straight stud next to them! Saves labour time and personally I find it gives a better finish on the plaster wall.

When I set a tub I bed it into a bag of premix cement or premix mortar. This prevent tub bottom flex that can promote flexing and possible bottom failure. I also put 1/4" strapping on the studs. This facilitates a nice wall board matchup with the tub.

Man, that axe was basically a rough adze, which is probably what the old timers used. Got a couple in the garage, used to use them for shaping logs for repairing old cattlemen's huts. Really enjoy your channel, greetings from Australia. Cheers PP

Love the hatchet job improv! Might pick up an old school drawknife in case you have to do it again. Probably give more control than the hatchet.

When it comes to plumbing home projects its always happens I have to repair something before getting to what I was trying to repair in the 1st place.
Wanted to change a toilet flush valve, nope shutoff is old and doesnt shutoff the water so I had to go by a shutoff and new line and install before.. At least 90% of my valves are new now, whenever I am changing a sink or anything else I just buy new shutoffs and replace my old ones even of theyre working.

How's that Americast holding up for ya? I had one crack lengthwise while standing in it in bare feet doing the tile work. A.S. replaced it with no questions asked, but what a PITA getting it out and back in... and having to destroy a bunch of tile in the process. And yes, the bottom of the tub WAS bedded into mortar, which I didn't see being done here...
