      Do you think that the default control board in the plans for this build would be large enough to accommodate a 2-player 6 button configuration? Maybe by moving the coin and start buttons to the front?

      @@epicgamescorp definitely lots of room to accommodate a few buttons on the front panel & on both side panels. I did 6 on my front and two on each side - just be careful where you drill them of course

    I used a jigsaw and circular saw to cut out the parts for my Bartop Arcade out on my back steps using your plans. It was just fine. I did assembly in my basement with the cleats , glue and a brad gun which I already had. It would have been about as easy to predrill and use regular screws. I did pickup a slot cutting bit for the tmoulding from Harbor Freight and a cheaper Forstner bit from Amazon. You could skip the tmolulding, and ya you can use a even cheaper butterfly type drill bit. Two coats of spray can primer, two coats of spray paint and a coat of clear over it, all out in the back yard with light sanding between layers. It doesn't take a lot of fancy tools or a shop to put these together. I might have built this version over the bartop if it had been available at the time.

    • @evocre8r
      @evocre8r 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@emmathomson2584 Nice. I pretty much used the monitor width plus 1 inch as the width of all my horizontal peices. I think 27" is the minimum you can reasonably do if you want two player control. How far along are you in the build?

    • @emmathomson2584
      @emmathomson2584 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@evocre8r honestly haven’t started yet as I was searching everywhere trying to confirm what size monitor this ‘wall cabinet’ model was designed around. It’s not in the description of the plans, the blog article, or the video… so honestly your comment was a godsend (because I even tried emailing them to verify)
      So now that I know it’s a 24”, I may just buy the ‘wall cabinet’ plans along with the full cabinet plans to help me convert it into the ideal setup.

    • @evocre8r
      @evocre8r 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@emmathomson2584 OK cool. Yeah I think 27" for a two player is a sweet spot. I ended up gutting a PC and putting it inside and it works great. I put a GTX 1060 in it too so I can play modern games at decent speed and resolution. But man let me tell you, it was a pretty tight fit. I've got pics but not sure how to share them.

    Thank you for posting this! I’m building my first arcade in a box this weekend to become familiar with Raspberry Pi, Retropie and working with the controls. I’d like to build a larger machine after that. I was thinking a cocktail table, but this form factor might be an even better solution. Great points about the tools as well. There are lots of potential solutions. Tools can make things a little quicker and a bit more precise, but there are ways to get there with basic stuff as well.

    No fancy tools are needed but I recommend having a router with a straight bit, it helps a lot. You don't even need a table saw or a bandsaw or anything that usually is needed for a nice square cut.
    There are many button layout designs out there, look them up. Decide how many buttons you want and go with a familiar arrangement (like Street Fighter for example). One thing to note is that you can't out the button holes too close to each other because they have an overhanging top and a nut from the underside.

    This is great! It gives me the desire to take my old Atari video game system and make it into a video game console system somehow. I do have the aftermarket joysticks that are pretty big which would look nice in such a cabinet. Have to somehow create an access slot for game cartridge insertion, and a generic Atari cabinet artwork.

One thing I like using raspberry pi is that it doesn't take up a lot of space and emits less heat and it requires less power than a pc. You could have put a coin receptor slot on the side. I like the coin-inserted sound in the arcade..it reminds of me of the old arcade machine.

    What size Forstner bit are you using here?

      use 28mm for large buttons and 24mm for small. A lot of the plans for the controls are shown from above which gives the impression that is 30mm. This is true only when measuring including the button collar which sits on the smaller hole. Metric is the correct size, but there are close English equivalents if you are a pinch.

    I'm not woodworking guy, and have no desire to become one, I simply found a store that would supply and cut the boards for the cabinet. All I had to do was put it together.

      Would you mind telling us what you paid for them? We've been thinking for some time about selling the panels. I just figured the demand would be pretty low based on what I feel like we'd have to charge for them to make it worth it.

    Mike, I noticed the Revolver Brewery sign in your office. Do you live near Granbury?

    What’s the best most secure way to mount this to the wall?

      Use a stud for sure. maybe 2 if you really want it secure.

      French cleat mounted to studs. Or, lag bolt it into studs. Very strong either way.
