My great great grandfather was a trooper under Forrest from Desoto county, Mississippi as a private in the 18th Miss Cav, Co D. I am extremely proud of his service to his state and there is nothing that anybody will ever be able to say or do that will make me think otherwise.

If you erase one piece of history, it then leads to ignorance, as the whole story disappears from the mind, and also as ever, the victors get to rewrite history. The 21st century world of everyone being offended , often by things they have no understanding of, leads to an ignorance of cancel culture. If anyone believes the confederacy was about slavery, they nee to look at the facts as to what actually led to the secession. Also that 90% of slavery was and still is carried out in the Arab and African world, of black people by black people (tribal leaders enslaved their own people and created the trade, white people abolished slavery in the western world). I have worked in Africa and have seen first hand slavery in countries like Mauritania so if you really want to fight for black lives, go to Africa and the UAE and protest, and make a real change.

With all due respect at this tender moment in the history of Forrest’s reinterrment, as a slave catcher in Mississippi, a slave dealer out of Memphis (which was the basest form of slaveholding) whose brothers continued in that line until the war, a slaveholding planter until he joined the army, at the very least a supporter of the KKK (though there is ample evidence from his own statements that he led it), the murderer (with a hatchet) of one of his black laborers, he had the most horrendous civilian record of any Civil War general. And his speech was delivered in response to the Exoduster movement that both he and his hosts feared would drain the South of black laborers, thereby depriving him of cheap labor and his hosts of their political power. Why in hell the Sons of the Confederacy feel the need to whitewash Forrest is an apparently everlasting mystery.
