how loud are cherry mx silent reds? comparison w/ osu

  • kinda loud
    keyboards used:
    (both Cherry MX)
    silent reds: Leopold FC660M PD (Ash Yellow)
    normal reds: iKBC F108 (UK Layout)
    mouse used:
    Logitech G305
    fingers used to snap:
    mine
    very loose comparison of noise levels between reds, silent reds, and some noises
    i thought osu would be a good way to compare because with streams there's a bit of pressure put on the keys and all happening very fast

    Bro it seemed like the red’s volume increased by 200% haha. Btw which switch gave you better acc (less misses, x100, x50, record screeches, etc?)

    • @meckdonalds
      @meckdonalds  3 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      i got better acc on the reds, but this should not be indicative of anything in terms of gameplay improvement because this map for me is easy to over-stream, which i did a lot for both plays. it's also important to note that my finger control is quite bad actually and i'm not known for high acc plays in osu communities xd

    I own both red and silent red switch keyboards, and I can say this really is a great demonstration.
    btw: loved the red switch in the beginning, but feel too noisy after a couple of months, I'm lucky to find my love in silent red switch considering that many people won't even bother to try silent red switch, but my friend gave me one as a gift and it grows on me
    Your ears and fingers won't feel tired at all, and if you listen close to it, silent red switch comes with that pleasantly scratchy sound that kind of makes you feel like you're using keyboard as a pencil writing your words on the monitor, if that makes sense

    due to the dampeners in the switch i find it more 'heavier' than normal reds ngl, since my fingers cant go as fast when i use silent reds than regular reds.
    Although with silent reds its easier to have finger control, but lesser speed. whereas normal reds is vice versa
    but that might depend on the frame of they keyboard since both switches of mine are from different keyboards, so bottoming out may feel different

    Edit: Anyone else feel free to response to this. I’d like to know since I prefer response time and I also prefer not too loud click sounds. What gave you a better experience red or silent red?

    • @meckdonalds
      @meckdonalds  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      i cannot comment on performance preference. i think because they are similar weight and both linear switches i find it easy to adapt to either one so performance is more or less the same.
      when it comes to gameplay it doesn't matter very much what they feel like personally because i bottom out regardless, although the travel distance difference can be noticeable switching from one switch to the other, which, again, only needs some time to get used to.
      i apologize because i cannot provide very tangible feedback for your question since it's a perfect example of "you don't know until you try," good luck with whatever you end up with

    It's been a month and I am totally conflicted as to which one to purchase, Speed Silver or Silent Reds! I prefer the lower travel distance of the Silvers while I also would like to have the silence of the Silent Reds! Currently using a K70 with standard Reds and I hate the sound and how much the switches travel as a bottom-out typist, making my fingers fatigued quick AF! Just bloody confused!!!

    • @meckdonalds
      @meckdonalds  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      i think it's more fatiguing to experience the shock of the key slamming down a lot sooner on something short and light like silvers, which is ironically counterintuitive for long sessions of either gaming or typing.
      standard travel distance is 4mm; silent reds have 3.7, silvers have 3.4. the differences between travel length may sound small, but it's a lot more noticeable than you might think.
      how short and light silvers are can make you more prone to making inputs you did not mean to make, this happens to me on reds because reds are already so light, like i could be playing a game such as league of legends and press q by accident just from my fingers resting on qwe xD.
      take note though that all of this is different from person to person, i'm only speaking based on my personal experience. i don't follow keyboard stuff like i used to years ago but maybe nowadays there is a switch that matches what you described in your comment :-). good luck.

    • @meckdonalds
      @meckdonalds  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      i have a separate video about this, but yes, there are 2 main differences.
      to sum it up:
      - the most notable difference is scratchiness. silent reds are a lot scratchier than normal reds
      - bottom-out: since parts of the silent red stems are slightly rubberized, the bottom-out is a bit softer, and this is where they're known to be "mushy".

    • @meckdonalds
      @meckdonalds  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      the feeling of mushiness comes from the rubberized parts of the stems on the silent reds, so technically, yes, they are "mushy" to an extent because the bottom-out is slightly dampened. it's mostly this part of the switch that makes it a hit or miss for most people. i should also mention that s. reds have a shorter total travel distance than reds (3.7 mm vs 4.0 mm) probably due to the rubberized parts, but as for me, i don't mind either of these things. i can't tell you which one to buy, but hopefully these were interesting pointers :- ) my liveplays feature either one of my boards with reds and silent reds, so you can check those out for more sound difference etc. some people have told me they like the faint thock of s. reds while others say they like the snappiness of reds.
