I would say Moriarty in the RDJ Sherlock Holmes and Brian Cox as Hannibal in Manhunter are the best for me along with also Chancellor Palpatine in the prequels. The thing with real psychopaths is that its more likely that they are not upfront about it and put on a guise to seem normal in order to manipulate people into doing what they want. Anton Chigurgh to me is more borderline autistic along with with his coin obsession and rules. No Psychopath would ever give up their power to a coin or luck because one of their features is that they have an extreme lust for power and domination over everything, psychopaths are control freaks of the highest order. They are constantly seeking to manipulate and make everyone else smaller than them. Chigurgh just seems too odd to me to fit that definition and its more like theres just something really off with him where in my head he kinda just found his way into contract killing because hes a meticulous savant weirdo and thats why hes so effective.
@@krel3358 did you overlook the part where he murders a bunch of people as if they were insects? the three traits of psychopathy are boldness, callousness, & disinhibition. he has all three but especially the second
In the book, during the scene where Anton has Carson in the motel room, Carson asks him why he’s so calm. Anton says “I am here and you are there. In five minutes, I will still be here.” It’s a wonderfully brutal line I wished Bardem got to say.
The single greatest portrayal of psychopathy in film history. Cold, detached, with a singular goal in mind and carrying out violence like a Terminator. Javier Bardem is a wonderful villain actor.
When Anton has killed Carson he puts his feet up to not get them bloodied, which is a recurring thing in the movie; he takes off his socks for example when they get all wet with blood. He doesn't like blood on his feet, which later on tells us that he DID kill Carla Jean Moss because he checks to make sure his soles didn't get blood on them when he leaves the house. Great analysis!
Did you know: that doctors watched the movie and studied the character Anton Chigruh? Saying he is one the greatest and realistic portray of a pyscopath
I don't think actual professionals should 'study' fictional depictions for any purpose. It's fake no matter how authentic a performance, so it really doesn't belong in objective research.
I know the algorithm only rewards you for your videos on iconic films, shows, characters, etc. but I just want to let you know that your video from a few years ago on the films of Neil Labute was GREATLY appreciated by us lovers of more obscure cinema.
I'd love to hear your commentary on 1) his car accident and his calmness when in physical pain 2) the most excruciating scene I have seen in the movie: the final innocent woman dialogue. She actually makes some of your points and also refuses the coin toss.
Anton Chigurh is described in the book as being white, blonde, blue eyed, this is in line with Moby D**k and the Judge where the whiteness is akin to the supernatural or some concept outside of the normal realms of reason.
@@RohanDasgupta-f7x No, I misremembered the blonde and white part but he does have deep blue eyes and is of average height and build, that's pretty much it.
in my opinion, anton is so fucking terrifying for his code rather than his absence of one. he has a moral code, a sense of what is right and wrong, whether or not he would use those terms, it is obvious he has a code. the kind of code a hurricane has, but a code none the less. he was 37 in that? holy shit, my life is a waste
Completely unrelated to Bardem’s amazing performance, but i’m convinced this movie popularized the suppressed shotgun in video games. Up until No Country for Old Men came out I don’t recall ever playing a shooter that had a suppressed shotgun in it. The next year Far Cry 2 came out and it allowed the player to unlock a shotgun with a suppressor.
@ 9:05 when you explain that he re enters the room to catch any movement is wrong. He burst into the room a second time to mockup how he’s going to ambush the person who has the satchel, he scans the room after. Notice when he kicks in the door on the cartel, he didn’t even have to look for the light switch, his muscle memory knew where it was.
I would be pleased if you can do one for seven psychopaths, seriously it's one of must underrated movie i have seen and one of my favorite of all time. Sure none of the actors performance are nowhere as great as javier but still overall with the character, story, plot it's phenomenal
I remember after seeing this I told everyone I know this is one film, and the one character that has literally scared me to the core. I've been into every type of film over the last almost 50 years and in all of them there have been wonderful characters, and in depth characterization, and so many different takes on both human and monster... But this is and has been the ONLY character that scared me. He is unrelenting and seemingly unstoppable. He is a force that changes everything and everybody in his way, much like the tornados in Twister... Some people may find themselves in pursuit of him, but they'll never be able to really catch him or truly understand him, just perhaps gain SOME information and theorize what they think about him, nothing more.
4:10 All of this doesn't make me think he's not thinking, just that he's not relaxing or doing anything a normal human would to think. His physicality is completely devoid of personality, like he never grew any personality that fundamental way his entire life, for whatever mysterious reason in his background.
Just like in Terminator , Arnold accent was bit different as he was Austrian, Chigurh was inspired from terminator , so they did casting on those lines
Listen to this, how about the media and Hollywood put thousand of articlea telling that this guy ia the most accurate portrail of a psychopath just to enhance his image, the movie and future performances on movies?

Yeaaaah Let's get this video to a lot of views in the first hour so that it gets love from youtube Algorithm bless this video which i liked even before watching it because it's that good Seriously, sometimes i end up pissed off because i can't like it again after watching it, fix that youtube Lots of words lots of engagement, yadda yadda
4:19 I dont understand this about your analysis: "Hes not thinking.." Throughout the movie, he seemed to always know exactly what he was doing. So I would personally assume that this is him thinking while having a bottle of milk.
Typically when actors are depicting themselves thinking they move or gently wobble their pupils, but Bardem just sits still and breathes which is unusual
@JustanObservation Idk man, maybe you're right. Maybe there aren't many thoughts going on inside his head. Or he could just look like that when thinking, since it could fit his character too imo.
This is one of my all-time favourite performances. The most accurate portrayal of a psychopath according to experts.
No?
@@GleppaPiggyou’re replying to every “realistic psychopath” comment. You seem a little pressed.

Psychopaths are not like that tho. They are incredibly charming and engaging. They are masters at blending in and appearing normal.
I never get tired of analysis videos of this role

Great analysis!
I love how the one time he visibly loses that detachment is when that guys wife refuses to play his stupid coin game.
I love how there's no score in the whole movie besides one small scene with a very subtle low bass score. Makes the movie even more eerie
Within a minute of you posting? I’ve never been this early! So excited for you covering this one, an incredible character 😁
Hasn't he already did a video on Anton Chigurh? 'Cause I swear that I've seen it,but I might be wrong.
I’ve never seen pictures of the actor himself before so I was shocked at how much more attractive he is without the horrible haircut
Did you know: that doctors watched the movie and studied the character Anton Chigruh? Saying he is one the greatest and realistic portray of a pyscopath
Who's second? Is the other Psycho American?
No

Yes. We know.
Love the analysis videos
The Huff of Inevitability is a wild name for an exhale.
Another great analysis. One of the scariest villains in a film imo.
I literally searched your channel last night for your analysis on Bardem’s role as Chigurh
Last week I did the same as I was going through his videos, great to finally see one🙏
Even though his haircut looks goofy, it kinda resembles the hood of a grim reaper
... no
Sometimes a goofy haircut is just a goofy haircut
gosh dude every vid you make is stellar, love this movie and loved this analysis. javier is a genius frfr

Great commentary, JAO!
The actor portraying the gas station owner did a phenomenal performance too.
Maybe you could look at something from Miller's Crossing? It's a highly underdiscussed film, and it needs more attention.
Anton Chigurh is described in the book as being white, blonde, blue eyed, this is in line with Moby D**k and the Judge where the whiteness is akin to the supernatural or some concept outside of the normal realms of reason.
I thought he was described as being dark haired and even pictured as such

Just like Chrisoph Waltz’s Hans Landa, I am convinced that no one could have portrayed Chigurh better than Javier Bardem.
One of the most iconic villainous performances from the 2000's. He's just a horrible delight to watch.

His performance was voted as the most convincing depiction of a clinical psychopath by a panel of psychiatrists. Quite the accolade.
Its funny how in trying to neutralize his accent Javier managed to fully sound like a skin-walker lol. Just not human whatsoever
Javier Bardem & Heath Ledger walk into a bar......................................😎

Can you do on Dexter Morgan? For how he did act a sociopath really good.
Could you do one about Christoph Waltz in Inglorious Bastards please
Yes
