Howard is just amazing x And a really nice man too I worked with him in London and I can honestly say a nice man inside and out x Miss his voice every night on stage x
wow you are truly blessed to have someone like him in your life. How cool it must be to be able to talk to him about Broadway. I so jealous! Phantom, Sweeny, and The Swan Princess are 3 of my all time shows. I love that he has been a part of all 3. So cool
Me too, I've seen him in Phantom a lot, and though his voice is pretty much PERFECT, it comes out thicker and warblier in Phantom. He does a ridiculously good job in Edwin Drood as Jasper, and I feel like that's his true voice.
Hello, and thank you for your mention of the great Mr. M! I wish I could be more helpful as regards his apparent inattention when/where you mentioned it. I haven't a clue. Wish I could be more helpful! Best wishes.
@BroadwayPirate1106 Consider yourself among a few of the anointed! Mr. McGillin is considered one of the "Broadway Treasures!" I think his voice, presence and universal appeal make him one formidable individual! Thanks for your comment; it's fun and personal! My best to you!
I first saw Black Orpheus someplace on the lower East Side of Manhattan, nearly 100 years ago! Anyway, I never forgot it, and I'm surprised that it's my most popular vid on YT! The star, Marpessa Dawn, shown as my avatar, was from Pittsburgh! I'll never know the particulars, but she married the director of the film, Marcel Camus. Both Marpessa and handsome Breno Mello, her co-star, died within a little more than a month apart. I'm not sure if it's very sad, or "Kismet!" Please, keep in touch!
What concert is this from (and when)? Looks like John Mauceri conducting. Howard McGillan is the perfect type of baritenor voice for this role (and many others).
Hi Mr. Whaley….You're right about the time-frame! Aside from his spectacular voice and appearance, few guys could have carried off that hairstyle! Thank you!

This is from A Musical Toast: The Stars Shine on Public Television, 1987. That is John Mauceri as conductor.
Breathtaking, perfect singing, just perfect, and his voice is gorgeous.

I saw him first in the 1985 Follies in Concert as one of the younger leads. Very impressed by him, always remember him! 💕
Pretty much an unforgettable performer! I always liked him, and glad we agree!
Best wishes,
varadero

Prince Derek, does Odette know you're hitting on Johanna? What would Anthony think?
He is just ..... A God!
Derek does Odette know about this?

I think you mean lyric baritone, not a "baritenor". I never heard that term to classify a singer.
This is awesome!! I'm a huge PotO fan so I'm digging the Raoul-hair comments. What year is this from????
@BlueThunderFlik It's so awesome that he did that in South Park The Movie! 8D
Beautiful performance. Stephen Sondheim is one of the greatest Broadway Show composers of all time.
That’s the voice of Prince Derek from the Swan Princess.
@stefan103 a higher key? its a pretty high key as it is
South Park Bigger Longer and Uncut brought me here
This has to be from the mid-80s. I’d recognize that mullet anymore.
Hi Mr. Whaley….You're right about the time-frame! Aside from his spectacular voice and appearance, few guys could have carried off that hairstyle! Thank you!
nice voice, nasty mullet
