For the green slide notes during FMS you don't have to match any sort of timing. Just hold your stick full up or full down and it will line up perfectly. I thought it was a case of having to move it the right amount but after playing around, it is not.

Game changer, thank you! I love this game but it does a horrible job of teaching you how to play.

Yea just need to move UP or DOWN for green long slide note. Those small note in the slide is the "timing" for you to change direction.

Just a few things from someone who has played the arcade version (all-star carnival) very heavily a few years back. Playing this is like playing music. If you miss a note, move on like nothing happened. The more you can train yourself to ignore mistakes, the faster you'll learn new charts and new difficulties. I've perfect chained every demo song on basic and I'm working on the ones I know well from the arcade game on expert.
I personally prefer using L1 and R1 to L2 and R2 because using the triggers makes me late so frequently, since I have to pull them a certain distance to make them register. The shoulder buttons are much quicker to trigger, especially if you rest your pointer fingers right on top of them. This keeps your thumbs free for the sticks. I'm still trying to train myself out of constantly using the face buttons.
On that topic though, face buttons are really good for simultaneous notes and switching notes, especially if you have big hands. My thumb can easily hit X and O at the same time, and they're almost never off from one another on timing, so I won't get a critical and a great, for instance. I get that a lot with triggers because I'm not well-coordinated with both my hands in unison. Fighting game players like yourself might be better at dual triggers for simultaneous inputs.
Also, there will be times you have to swap from one hold note to another. You can't simply release the button and press it again, you have to swap to another button at the same instant you release the first. This is okay for me on triggers, because my hands are doing different jobs, one releasing and another pressing, but I found that if you can cover two face buttons comfortably with your thumb, you can also switch back and forth between those two without missing a beat. I've actually gotten rainbow critical timing on both the release of X and pressing of O on those swap-over notes, just by shifting my thumb from one up to the other. It feels really good when you nail it.

Curtain Call was one of my favorite 3DS games and I played many hours of it years ago. Playing this felt like seeing a good friend after a long time. Simplicity at its best. Easy to learn but hard to master and addicting! Great game!

I play on switch where the triggers aren’t as great as ps or other controllers so I use A (or O depending where you play) and I use triggers for multi nodes, gonna try the triggers again though and see if things improve

"Trigger speed" actually being scroll speed is something I had no idea, definitely I'm playing better at 1.5. Faster does not mean harder, it also means there's less info on the screen to process at any one time. The timing is the same, all that changes is how many notes are on the screen at once.

This is my first time trying a FF rhythm game but after having tried the demo tutorial and struggling to play afterwards here's some things that I found helped. I'm playing the PS4 version on PS5.
So during the tutorial to me it seemed like I had to hit the O button exclusively to play single red notes, which is not the case. Try hitting other buttons like square or for my personal preference for single red triggers I use the X button on the PS5 controller now.
Finding a way to hold the controller and having set motions for the type of trigger helps a lot. I hold my PS5 controller with my left index finger on Left Trigger for dual reds or dual green slide triggers, my left thumb on the analog L3 stick for any single gold arrows, my right index finger on Right Trigger for dual reds or dual green slide triggers and my right thumb near the X button for single red triggers which can then go the the R3 stick for dual gold arrows.
As others have mentioned the diagonal arrows can be done in either shared cardinal direction and two outward or two inward facing arrows are equivalent so either tilt both sticks inwards or outwards.
The BGM timing tool helps a lot and I would suggest re-calibrating it every now and then as your skills improve.
For the green slides with an arrow at the end you don't need to release the button you're holding down, just flick either L3 or R3 in the prompted direction at the end and it should trigger.
I was a bit hesitant at first (ESPECIALLY because I was screwing around with the controls and accidentally tried my very first song on supreme difficulty, I was cursing at my TV a lot during that one wondering how anyone could ever play these games) but really enjoy it now that I have a better idea of how things work.
Thanks for the video, I might have to screw around with the Trigger Speed setting and see if one of them feels better.

For someone new to the genre, you nailed it on the head as to why we would use a lane cover. it's literally to adjust how much information you take in at once.

      same goes for scroll speed

    • @steel5897
      @steel5897 ปีที่แล้ว

I think scroll (trigger) speed is superior to lane cover, same purpose but you don't waste screen space.
Although if you play in a huge TV then lane cover could be useful to keep your eyes on the same part of the screen?

As someone who played WAY TOO MUCH Amplitude and Frequency growing up, I can't not use the L1, R1, and R2 buttons. (If you know you know!) Absolutely find what buttons work best for you for this game.
I Had fun with this demo, but man I could not beat any of the songs on Supreme. I look forward to the challenge of mastering them!

Another pointer is that all of the diagonals are lies. E.g., you but a diagonal up/left arrow by inputting anything between left and up, including just straight left or straight up. So most double diagonals just become left+right.

Press both directions on the sticks. So if it's up and down, you could hit up with left stick and down with right stick or vice versa. It's basically a directional version of multi hit notes

Do you have any tips for those long notes that overlap and swap with adjacent lanes multiple times? I find that I keep “miss”ing even though it feels like I’m pressing and holding when I’m asked to.

do you let go of a note as you click another? (usually at the ends of long green notes, when swapping you have to release the previous one.)

My fingers will start hurting after a while. I'm probably just too used to the 3DS version

The regular stages are fine for me
The Field Stages suck so I just set them to simple mode whenever I play them so I can just focus on button presses.
And we don't have movie stages yet but, I'm more used to playing KH: Melody. So the angle set for those might be my go to.
