  • What are the differences betwee the American woodcock (Scolopax minor) and the Eurasian woodcock (Scolopax rusticola). Obviosly there from 2 different continents but what else?
And why do the woodcocks walk so weird?

What I want to know is who named them "WoodCocks" and why. Also, should they get royalties for inventing the ultimate "Abbey Road."

According to my research the word "woodcock" comes from old english and was first mentioned in 1050. This was the naming of the Eurasian woodcock in England. The name means wood+cock/bird. The bird was named that because it was very easy to catch, sort of like a cock/chicken because they can't fly that well.
Hopefully this makes some sense 🫤

@@RobsBackyardCritters I guess if you can't catch these birds, ya ain't a very skilled hunter!

Nature sometimes can't be explained. These little birds bouncing up and down as they walk to mimic leaf movement while hunting for food is amazing. The question is, when they are on a hard surface, a road, they still think they have to bounce as they walk?
