I have to agree with the other similar comments on this video. Over the years I have looked at a number of different "how to" videos for this and that and find them either under-explained or the complete opposite. This and the couple of other videos I have seen by Chris Parker are pitched at exactly the right amount of content, explaining thing that need explaining and in very understandably parsed and pronounced narration. Thank you very much and you are recently now my official "Go to" GIMP resource
As I've recently had my older laptop OS changed to Kubuntu, I gained the GIMP program for image editing. I'd always wanted Photoshop but the price required pockets deeper than mine. As a newbie to GIMP, I really appreciated this video because it gave me knowledge I could immediately put to use. Well done, GIMP TUT! You just gained a new subscriber.
I just want to thank you for these, gimp is such an underutilized and under represented editing software, its hard to find quality tutorials but these help a lot!
I don't want to be simping, BUT. There wasn't a thing in this video/tutorial that I didn't like. And that's a first. To start with, you remind me of a kinder and competent version of Donnie Azoff from The Wolf of Wall Street. Secondly, You taught me all I needed to know in like 5 minutes. I was messing with all these settings like brightness, exposure, saturation, color balance independently resulting in an unnatural image. And all I needed to do is change two or three sliders in the levels option... Mind blowing. Now I can edit my (yet downloaded) badly shot prn pictures easily xdd. Besides this, tho other topics were helpful as well. The example image choice is also great. It's exciting, but not too much. it's both family friendly and men friendly xd. Well spoken. Not too fast, and not too slow. No unnecessary talking, the script is great. The video editing is also great, you zoom in, when it's necessary etc. Useful knowledge, information dense and entertaining implementation. Thank you! Edit: But sometimes the color balance is also has to be changed, like now for me, when the levels seem to be good, but the image still seems to be off. I like doing it nevertheless^^
Part where you showed the Heal tool, is (removing blemishes and hair strands) done the same way in Photoshop too? Or does it use anything more advanced, like maybe taking the average look from around the blemish, and use that average to paint over that blemish automagically?
Basic controls for healing don't work reliably. Sometimes it fixes a spot, sometimes it doesn't. Also, if you picked the wrong spot as a reference area, it's unclear how to undo that. The user interface of GIMP in general is anything but user-friendly, if not outright annoying.
Is there a tutorial video to show how you can mask something over a specific piece of photo? Example: Im modding car liveries for a game. And i want a certain part carbon fiber but im not sure how one would go about cropping, possibly masking, a carbon fiber image over the photo (ie. Side mirror or something) without disturbing the rest of the livery (having bits and pieces of carbon fiber on other parts of the car cuz its intruding onto the other pieces of the photo.) Thanks. Sorry for a long comment. Im getting a hang of GIMP and if i figure this out, my car liveries would be that much better

Great video, but too much fluff and talking. Can be more on point and will be great. I guess for non IT person is great, for me who knows a little about alike software you are too long.
@@GIMPTUT I love the ease of use feel of GIMP but after using Picsart on my android device I feel like GIMP is a little bit too old school if you ask me. Is there open source photo editor that is...umm a bit more modern that you can suggest?😀
No. It’s not the program.. It’s you.. Gimp, like PS, can accept plugins to deal with RAW. I use Darktable to process the RAW file- actually most of the time I only use Darktable. Then I export it as a TIFF and do the final editing in GIMP - In GIMP I will only do artistic stuff: like remove items, add items, insert text, blend stuff etc.

Click 'undo' as many times as needed to remove mistakes. Select another "reference area" with CTRL> click.
