    @Nikiz001 You mean that your Xbox wont boot at all, not even to the flubber screen? If that's the case then my guess would be that your power supply is toast. You can find replacement power supplies some places online.

    @Maytricx Not that I can think of. Just keep trying, and make sure that both probes are touching the points described in the video. Also, don't try reading the eeprom until you get the error screen. Good luck

    Newer desktop motherboards don't come with a 9 pin serial connection. You have to have an older laptop for it.

    • @Floydzabarber
      @Floydzabarber  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's correct and you can't use those usb to 9 pin serial adapters either. It won't work I have tried before.

    Good video but I still can not read my eeprom. Are any other settings or changes that you forgot to mention?

  • @Floydzabarber
    @Floydzabarber  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Do you mean when the Xbox boots fine can you still get your eeprom? If that is what your asking then yes of course. All you have to do is force an error. You could unplug the ide ribbon cable to the hard drive or disconnect the av cable. Hope this answers your question.

    eeprom reader is the best way to mod an Xbox. i made one myself for under $5, it looks ghetto as hell but it works.

  • @Nikiz001
    @Nikiz001 13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @Floydzabarber The PSU works, but it is the motherboard that is toasted.It didn't boot anymore and LED's didn't light up. It has been over 4 years like that and I have desoldered some capasitors from it, so no hope to repair it.. :/

  • @Floydzabarber
    @Floydzabarber  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    I am not totally sure I know what you mean. If you are asking whether or not you would still be able to read the eeprom while having a bad hard drive, then yes of course. With a eeprom reader you are reading the eeprom directly from the motherboard. I hope I understood what you were asking. Good luck with the error 06 I have never come across that myself.

    How did you connect your Xbox to the laptop and manage to view the Xbox screen? Does your laptop have a composite video input or was it via a video converter? Any special software to make it all work?
    Thanks.

    • @Floydzabarber
      @Floydzabarber  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just used a USB device called an Easycap to connect the Xbox to the laptop. I used VirtualDub (video editing software) to capture the video.

    Yes you can. First just load the eeprom you would like to write to the eeprom chip on your motherboard in PonyProg than chose "write" instead of "read"

    I just ordered one of these. I wonder if the fact I'm using a Win98SE on a SE440BX-2 chipset board helps compatibility with this reader or if a modern computer with a COM port on Win7-10 works just as well.

      @Floydzabarber  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +FrankyManky I don't think it would make a difference.

      I guess the only advantage my old desktop has over modern hardware is native IDE, since I only have one of the two headers occupied. Thanks. :D

      +Floydzabarber I got this EEPROM reader from this seller and this seller is legitimate. Go get em peeps!
      I was able to get the solder from my 1.0 board out of pins 13 and 14 on the LPC connector and just plug the thing right in. Just a little disclaimer, this won't enable piracy unless you rebuild your drive with a the right files (Ex, FTP a modded Xbox's C drive to the linux distro in the HDM's ISO builder). This thing worked like a dream.

    If I want to restore a 160GB SATA HDD to it's normal state so I can use it again with my PC, how do I do this?
    I don't have a desktop PC with IDE HDD connections, only SATA and the HDD is SATA and not IDE anyway. I have the eeprom.bin file from my Xbox on my computer if that matters. Please help!
    I don't want a brick for a HDD and I really need to use it in my desktop PC. When I try and boot my PC with this HDD in it, it asks me to unlock it with a password but it doesn't actually show anything when I try typing.

    • @Floydzabarber
      @Floydzabarber  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +W. Jones Use Slayers Evox 2.7 to unlock the HDD while it is in your Xbox, then put the drive in your PC and re-format it. Install your operating system and you should be good to go.

      +Floydzabarber Thank you! I have been trying to figure that out for a while. I used Chimp to unlock it since I already had it on my cloned HDD and it worked great.

  • @Floydzabarber

    You can write a eeprom that the Xbox will recognize yes.

    Thanks for the great tutorial. What if I can't get to an error screen? I have several xboxes that I tried flashing the same eeprom to with ConfigMagic 1.6 Final. Some worked and some wouldn't boot after flashing. I even checked that the proper eeprom was flashed and that it was locked, but I get the solid green, no eject/no audio/no video problem. Will I be able to use this process to save these xboxes by flashing the appropriate eeprom onto the motherboard and then booting up to a softmodded hard drive that's already locked to that lock code? Thank you so much in advance.

    • @Floydzabarber
      @Floydzabarber  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Mike Meldrem I don't have a lot of experience fixing bad TSOP flashes, but if I were you I would look into using the "TSOP d6" bios with a modchip. It is a bios specifically made for recovering from bad TSOP flashes. It is my understanding that you cannot flash a specific eeprom.bin to any version of Xbox. Certain versions expect certain eeprom's. This is probably why some of your Xbox's worked after flashing their TSOP chips and some stopped working. Once recovering from the bad TSOP flashes using the "TSOP d6" bios your Xbox's will be working again and you will be able to do whatever mods you would like to do to them.

    • @mikemeldrem2927
      @mikemeldrem2927 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well on one forum I saw someone mention that it's usually the bad TSOP that causes that, but the 1.6 doesn't even have a TSTOP to flash, and that ConfigMagic is only really flashing the eeprom, not the bios, but it can give similar symptoms. Then a guy on that forum said you only need to reflash the eeprom, not the bios. Well… if it DOES need a TSOP reflash, is the technique you're saying allow me to have these xboxes go back to just a softmod xbox? They're for selling. Or do I have to have a modchip per xbox? And do I have to solder all kinds of stuff to put the mod chip on each xbox to fix each one? I have 11 of them.

    • @Floydzabarber
      @Floydzabarber  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am sorry Mike, that is right the TSOP contains only the bios and the eeprom chip contains only the eeprom.bin I was confused. You do only need to re-flash the eeprom and not the bios. Can you get the Xbox's that are not working anymore to show an error screen. What you need is an eeprom reader/writer. You will need eeprom's that match the type of Xbox version you will be flashing the new eeprom.bin to (example you will need an version 1.0 eeprom.bin to flash to a 1.0 version Xbox motherboard) Once you have the eeprom reader/writer and the proper eeprom.bin's for your version Xbox's, and you can get an error screen, then use a software program called Ponyprog to flash the eeprom chip on your Xbox motherboards with eeprom.bin's that those version Xbox motherboards are expecting.

    • @mikemeldrem2927
      @mikemeldrem2927 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Okay, that makes sense. The issue is that I can't get an error screen. It's no eject, no audio, and no video. There's nothing. Only a green light. Is there a way to flash the eeprom without an error screen?

    • @Floydzabarber
      @Floydzabarber  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am not sure whether or not you can read the eeprom.bin off of the eeprom chip without first forcing an error. If you can't then I guess you could always pull the eeprom chip off the board, flash it in a programmer then re-solder it onto the board.
