I commented on one of your other DC30 repair videos I have tried putting solder on battery ends and just can't get them to stick .You make it look so easy
So is the higher 100w iron part of the reason? What percentage lead are you mainly working with? Where do you find those schematics, you have on your videos
    Thanks

I have zero schematics on these, I do have some print outs of the ICs or components data sheet. As far as soldering on a cell, I use a little fine sand paper and then alcohol to clean the cells ends very well. I use either RA Rosin Flux or Amtech 559 flux on the cell and yes a lot of heat, but only briefly. I use a high wattage iron and touch the flux and quickly puddle it up, then cool the cell down with a damp cloth. You don't want to hold an iron on the cell long at all of course. I use leaded solder 63/37.

      Hi,
The only T5 collar I have worked on is this one with GPS antenna replacement.

Did u manage for the new cell to show correct battery level on the handheld unit screen as well? Garmin doesnt sell original DC 30 / 40 batteries any more and the chinese ones have this problem with no battery level showing..
I tried to go through your video but didnt see or skipped the part, where u reset the battery level in any way, when replacing the cell using the original bms..

So, I used the original BMS board and simply replaced the cell so it should have worked fine. My Buddy had the handheld unit, so I did not test it in that manor and is a valid point for sure for all clarity. He never told me he had an issue with it at all?

@@ThriftyToolShed Yeh, I guess it worked okay for him then. I once also tried to replace the cell and encountered the meter not showing battery level.
Do you still remember which Astro hanheld unit he might have had?
Though it seems like this is more to do with bms, otherwise I havent really seen it being mentioned that you need to reset the battery bms/hanheld unit in any way for it to show voltage level of battery..
Makes me think why this could be so. None the less, we have had this problem with aftermarket cells numerous times, so supposedly it wasnt just one bad bms but something with how the new cell communicates with the rest of the unit.

It's been over 5 years. I barley remember it at all to be honest.
