You clearly only know Belarus from a tourist perspective, but that's a good overview.
Here is a bit more of insight, following your reasoning:
1- The old ladies only clean the trash to get some extra income as they struggle to make ends meet with their miserable pensions;
2- There are no homeless people in Minsk because the regime still follows the old soviet mentality: being homeless is a "felony" that needs "treatment". They are dispatched to these "asylums" that look more like prisons, where they are "treated".
3- Belarus is "safe" because it's a police State. Minsk has the biggest ratio of police presence than any other city in the world. And this is not to repress criminality. It has other more "sinister" purposes.
4- Minsk has a lot of parks because it was destroyed during the 2nd World war (about 75%). So all you see is effective Soviet planning.
5- See point 4. However many people say that it's a grey city with a lot of horrible looking buildings. It's a matter of taste
6- Yes, Belarussians are, in general, very kind. And patient.
7- Yes, Minsk is cheaper than the US. But it used to be a LOT cheaper. Not anymore.
8- Belorussian cuisine is underrated. Tasty and, for the most part, healthy.
9- Nightlife will be good or bad depending on individual objectives
20- Women in Belarus are getting sick and tired of Western middle aged men travelling there for sex tourism. Even if your goal is different, that's how you will be perceived. But, to your point, there are enough gold diggers around to squeeze a wallet dry.
Hi Jason, my perspective is clearly from a tourist as I don’t live there as of now. This is only my impression after 4 visits. I’m aware of the history and politics. Also not going in blind as I lived in Prague and Warsaw. Compared to NY and SF, Minsk is paradise. I appreciate your reply, Jose.
There is no paradise countries in the world, old people who works at average job positions suffering everywhere in the world, in the US and France and etc. I’m Belarusian and I live in uae, I prefer to live in the country with strong rules and no democracy rather than in fake democracy which leads to a social disaster and pod whatever they want, it’s a mess.

Brilliant update, thank you and good luck in your new chapter in Belarus! It's been a long time dream for me to visit that country as my grand dad was from there and he served in WW2... Just one silly question, how would you transfer your finances over there now days?

There were bins with overflowing trash behind the apartment building I was staying, I was surprised. Overall yes, it's clean and tidy.
Some people look Polish or Baltic not all have the Russian look.
Yes, my old apartment on Kaslova, the bins were over flowing all week.

I have been to Minsk a couple of times and it’s a fantastic and quite unique city. If you like Soviet era architecture you will love it. Lovely people friendly and helpful. 😊

Good to hear from another American, i agree with most points you made except for the architecture comment. Ive been to Minsk many times but not since the “revolution” of 2 years ago. You mentioned spending $800 for rent in Minsk which is a lot, so i wonder what do you do there for work? I do not hear of too many expats being successful as far as getting work visas…
I am not living in Minsk yet. I have been 4 times so I was just sharing my knowledge of the rental market. Yes, $800 would be in a very nice apartment. Thanks for watching and more to come in Belarus. Cheers.
Thank you for such a kind words about Minsk! Good to know that you find the city interesting. I feel it is a bit boring, but that was not always like that. About 5-10 years ago there were many events and new things, a lot was going on.
Now it is all ruined and nobody knows when and how it all ends.
For tourists - it may be interesting to visit and safe, even today.
But if you want to move here - think twice. If you have kids, they will grow having no perspectives in life.

You mentioned the low cost of living. How are you living there as far as finances? Are you working there or maybe on a pension? I understand where you're coming from as I'm an American living in the Czech Republic.
I don’t actually live in Minsk now. But that will change:-). I lived in Prague for 3 and moved back to USA in 2010. Beautiful city. I will keep everyone updated and I will do more informational videos. Coming soon. Thanks for watching. Keep warm in the EU!
@@allodicventures I'm really curious about Belarus because I have been hearing so many of the things that you mentioned and I'm intrigued by the wholesome and natural food you mentioned. I know one guy who went to Russia for a business trip before the war and he said that despite eating more, he lost weight because the food was of a higher quality!
@@krastycz1810 Absolutely the food is higher in quality. When I'm in the US, I have acne problem but just a week or two in Belarus it goes away. Not sure why but I think diet has a lot to do with it. Plus, it's very calm in Belarus, therefore, no stress.

homeless cant survive so far north with -10C regularly hitting them in the winter. Thats for people who sleep tent on the street visibly. But i saw some in kiev apartments have heat radiators not just inside homes but in staircase they sometimes sleep there, poland has some in sewers where they can burn things and stay warm
I just moved from New Hampshire and I saw dozens of homeless people in my town. Weather is identical to Minsk. But I know what you are saying. San Francisco literally has thousands of homeless. I used to step over rows of homeless when I was walking to work. They usually had a needle by their head.

Is it safe for an American or European to go there with the political situation. Western Govts are saying officially not to currently travel to Belarus.
It’s very safe. No crime or homeless people. The Belarusians don’t discriminate because of what country you are from. Western governments will always officially say it’s too dangerous.
@@allodicventures I meant in terms of the Belarusian Govt and state police potentially picking up a western tourist and using them as a political bargaining chip.
@@zatarawood3588 I do not know of one situation where an American or European that has gone to jail for political reasons. Now if you do something stupid, like beating someone up for no reason, then you can go to jail for a few years. I do know if a foreigner has 3 offenses in a 12 month period they can be deported out of Belarus. Hope this answers your question. Cheers.

Don’t speak Russian but lived in Prague 3 years and Warsaw 1 year, so speak a little Czech and Polish.

Easiest and cheapest route is to fly to Vilnius and take the bus to Minsk.
Is it hard to get a visa for Belarus?
Not at all. Takes about 1 week. The DC consulate is very fast. You can do it by mail.
What kind of visa did you apply for? Looks like the tourist visa is only for 30 days. I’m new to traveling, I’d like to know.
30 day business visa. You can apply with the embassy. It’s easy.
Did you receive your PR ?
Not yet. I have a temporary residency with the property I purchased. It’s very easy to have it renewed when you own an apartment. Are you moving to Minsk?

@@AllLoveHumans you can buy a dacha (old village summer house) for 7k and you qualify for a temporary residency. Very easy.

Interesting that you didn't mention anything about the political situation in Belarus or the fact that there's a war going on right on their doorstep, in which they are at least passively involved. I would have thought those were factors you might have considered, if only to conclude that the other ones outweighed them.
