I'm just about to fit new wheels to my Mk6R.
20 inch ET42
Tyres are Michelin PS4S 245/30/20.
I'll be doing an install video in a few days as I need a day to set all the coilovers right. Its slammed on H&R coilovers on the original 19s (ET50) at the minute with 235/35/19 tyres so might need to adjust camber at the same time.

So if I were to run lowering springs right, drop this sucker about 2 inches, would a 18x8.5 +42 work nice with minimal wheel gap?
For those thinking about the MK5 or MK7 just take a look at the rim and tire that come with those generations. The only issue I have with my MK7 is that since it has the PP I can't fit my old steel snow rims and I am most likely going to use the stock rims as snows. That is of course if I decide to keep the car.

I'm sure there's not a great difference between the mark 5 and the mark 6 as far as fitment is concerned but beginning that I own a mark 5 and it seems to be the red headed step child of the gti family I would love to see a video on this car.

@@DatGameCollector yeah, it sits perfect! I'm running 225/40-zr18 so it's a very slight stretch but necessary to keep from rubbing. Didn't need spacers or fenders modded at all

What about tires for those wheels?
At 20" what can the aspect ratio be? How bout a 19" wheel, what can the aspect ratio be?
I don't want to be any lower then a 40 tire and would feel better at 45. However I don't know if I can do a 45 ratio on a 20" or 19" wheel?

I'm considering a flush or maybe slightly poked fitment on my '16 Golf, probably stick with 18 or 19 inch diameter.
I think the mk7 has a little more room in the well to work with but the outer limits are similar.

18x9.5 squared with a +20 to +25 is a perfect FITMENT for most all MK4-5-6-7’s been there done that and that’s a fact.

This video seems to ignore people who just want normal, practical rims for a set of snow tires. 16s fit on these cars and are better in the snow, but they weren't discussed at all.
Does anyone know if I can fit 245/40/18 tire without rubs,since I'm running now 235/40/18 and have 0 issue's,I just want to stick out wider from the fender?

Feel like it's needs to be mentioned about how much these are lowered. A mk6 with anything wider than 8.5j with 30 to 45 offset on stock suspension looks dog.
All of the flush fitment options are mk7 and all of the FTL options are mk5.. but this is still generally helpful 🤙🏾

same basic car, also many gti people put R tail lights on their Gtis if that is what you are referring too...
Someidot they are two separate cars though the video is about the mk6 gti it’s not that hard to show the actual car the video is about.
I appreciate the effort but the video isn't helpful. Plenty of these wheel options you mentioned would rub on a MK6 Golf. You showed mostly MK7 Golfs which have greater wheel clearance. You also didn't really show any proper performance wheel setups. Shame :/
