Inline monitoring and characterization of 3D printing with speckle sensor technology

  • For optimal results, Laser Powder Bed Fusion of Metals should be monitored live and material properties should be characterizes directly. The Laser Speckle Photometry (LSP) developed at Fraunhofer IKTS detects inhomogeneities in 3D printing non-destructively. The measurements of the melting process can be explored at different resolutions. By analyzing the change in interference patterns (speckles), even invisible defects can be detected. Adapted algorithms allow clear visual distinctions between optimal and faulty areas in the process.
