    Such a tragic loss, SRV was epic. You should try out Bowie’s Let’s Dance as he mentioned. And for Clapton, Layla by Derek & the Dominos true perfection of a song with Duane Allman on slide guitar. And Clapton playing on the Beatles While My Guitar Gently Weeps.

He hit rock bottom, picked himself up, dusted himself off, got himself back together again, and then he’s taken from us...😔 But thank God he lived and produced all of this wonderful material for us to look back on and enjoy still to this day. OK -After watching you go down the BEST GUITARIST rabbit hole, I have to speak. In 1989, (I think), SRV and Jeff Beck toured together. One night SRV would open with his band and Beck would headline. The next night Beck would open and SRV close out. And they always came on stage at one point and jammed together. There's youtube vid of them together doing 'Goin' Down'. What's my point? If you don't think SRV wouldn't scream from the heavens to listen and learn about Beck...well I don't know what to say. Check out Becky, with a young Tal Wilkenfeld on bass, doing "Angel" at Ronnie Scott's. No circus, no playing with teeth, no playing behind the head, just pure bliss.

    Stevie is rightly lauded for his lead guitar playing, but what seems to be overlooked sometimes is just HOW good a rhythm player he was. He was incredibly tight, and could mix lead and rhythm lines so seamlessly that there was literally no need for a second guitar player in the band. RIP Stevie.

    Gotta say this, everyone aware of SRV's drug situation (and it was big time) was pulling for him! He really was quite lovable. When he did get clean, he thrived on it and put out two excellent albums. As you get to know him, Video, you can see the differences between when he was using and later on when sober. Sometime, I don't think even Jimi could match hime. Oh, and in the beginning about "purist", the majority of founding blues players were as tight with the "copyright" as YT is with reactors. You play somebody's song, you play it THEIR way, otr things will happen to write a song about! It wasn't until maybe the British Invasion people started playing blues and electric blues "differently" from their writers.

    Bro, this is the fact of what he was doing, in the early daze, SRV would have lines of Coke on his amp, and in between songs he would do them, then one day a stage hand told him , Man you had a White Mustache when you turned around, SRV came up with a New Trick, Put a Gram of Coke in my Whiskey Drink and put it on my amp, he did this for a long time, But the Chemicals togeather started to eat up his Stomach, that is what made him sick and it was killing him, That is when he changed his life around, True Grit Man, Rock on, Cousin Figel

    • @csi2448
      @csi2448 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      He also used the coke and whiskey combination as a hangover cure. The amounts of coke he was doing before he finally got help was downright scary!!

    Mr. Video, I met Stevie Ray back in the day (the late 70s) when he was playing Austin, Texas 7 nights a week. No one had ever done that before and only one other band since. This interview is a great find. I hadn't seen it before. I saw Stevie in concert one last time before he died in the crash in LA at the Greek Theater. Incredible show. It was about 2 or 3 weeks before the crash. He played the guitar better behind his back than everyone else did with it in front. Stevie was the best ever, and I've seen them all in person.

    I also read the Texas Flood biography. It's very raw. Lots of personal testimonies from friends and family. Stevie helped many people get sober. One little boy in a hospital was a huge Stevie fan. Stevie came for a visit and gave him his hat. The child was later buried with it. 😪

He said in one interview that there's room for everyone in music and that meant there was room for him too. Rafael Felan the coke in the whiskey (his hangover cure) is what almost killed him. It ate a huge hole in his stomach lining. I believe the doctors told him he would have been dead in a month or two (can't remember the exact number) if he hadn't gotten help when he did. His stomach was so bad, I think it was hard for him to even drink soda!

    When you start playing guitar, you're going to suck. Everyone sucked. All the greats sucked, and kept sucking until they stopped. Be fearless and the guitar will carry you through any battle.... oh and if your fingers hurt too much a little superglue on the tips (dried before you touch anything) can make fake calluses until you get the real deal. Edit: For more guitar inspiration check out Dire Straights - Sultans of Swing.

    For me, it's hard to jump into a guitarist that I like without trying to understand their influences. Robert Johnson is always a final cut if you are thinking of a guitarist to listen to. He only recorded 40 or so songs and he recorded them with his face toward the wall so that the people recording him couldn't see his guitar play. He is a legend in the blues guitar world. Eddie James "Son" House Jr aka Son House was another legend of the blues guitar. As much as I. love and respect Stevie Ray Vaughn, I have to pay respects to the musicians he looked up to.
