Barrueco's Danza de los vecinos is one of the most beautiful things I've heard out of a guitar in my life. It truly doesn't feel like taken out of a piano composition, everything is so perfect!

Realmente lo mejor de lo mejor
No, he's saying that the classical guitar played in huge symphony halls simply doesn't sound very good, and he's right. It's the aural equivalent of looking down the wrong end of a telescope. Of course the instrument can be amplfied to restore some of the charm of its nuances but that is a difficult technical problem to make it sound natural. I think JW does the amplification very well in big halls.
I saw Manuel in 'Town Hall' in NYNY and couldn't hear much of the nuances at all till I cupped my ears with both hands and then it was fine. He was not amplified so that was a problem and the other problem is our ears face about a 130 degree angle and not toward the tiny figure on stage so that is the other problem. As I cupped both ears I could hear the nuances just fine and the concert was wonderful as you'd expect from Mr. Barrueco. A Fernando Sor Andante largo was one very profound work.
BTW: this is amplified. See the two microphones that appear in the far left sometimes.

There was no "amplifier"...
Most large concert halls will place mics a certain distance away from the stage... not so much to directly increase the volume, but to create a more echo type of feel.

I think this sounds quite good. There's antother, better quality video of a part of this on TH-cam, which covers the real sound better. Without playing it in big halls, classical guitar would still be considered to be a second-grade instrument in classical music. Also cellists, violists and flutists play in big halls. Do we here any complaint on that!? And with that in mind, all of Segovia's efforts on upgrading the image of the guitar can be considered as his greatest achievement.

is his tremolo considered uneven?
....yeah...it's encouraging to see that even maestros have weaknesses...the man is human, after all.. :-) ...as a player i did a brilliant tremolo in my youth ( when i played regularly ), and a good friend, ( now deceased ), practiced tremolo fanatically, until he played it better than i had heard the professionals at that time ( and perhaps this time too ), do it. He was determined to master Receurdos De La Alhambra, and he did.
Up until today, the smoothest that i have heard.
A perfect tremolo is not a good tremolo.
Sure, I love Pat also. Anyway, classical guitar technique covers all another technique.
I dont understand how can someone be so virtuoso in the classical guitar. Its a terrible tiresome instrument. It drains me out each time i play it and this guys plays as if he was spreading butter in bread.
Preach it, brother. Recently I started learning just one Albéniz piece (I come from a rock/bossa nova/jazzy background) and it has been an incredibly challenging process. Barrueco shows how much he has practiced because he makes it look easy.
of all the classical guitarists, I agree. of non-classical players, I'd say Pat Metheny. I'd love to see them do a recording together such as Manuel did on Nylon & Steel

I like it very much though. I wouldn't call The Bealtes totally inferior, because their music is about as good as pop gets (it's still no great music, I agree, though some really fantastic arrangements of their works were made by people like John Bayless and Leo Brouwer). The Gaga's, the Biebers and all those idiots who are producing Hardcore, Rap and other shit are the ones who are producing the real inferior 'music' (I would like to call it 'noise only').
Manuel Barrueco, junto con David Russell, es uno de los mejores guitarristas clásicos de estos últimos tiempos. Sus transcripciones, que en su momento eran recomendadas por José Tomás, son muy buenas. En este caso, mi impresión es que son muy densas, por respetar escrupulosamente las notas y los detalles que Falla escribió. Creo que por momentos, rítmicamente queda algo pesada, por los saltos. Tal vez quitando alguna nota en algunos acordes, para la mano izquierda sea más cómodo y fluya mejor rítmicamente. Aún asi, lo hace fenomenal, cómo no.

This is just example of elitism of classical music listeners. The Beatles' music is no way inferior, it's full of great talent, invention etc. If for you the only indicator of quality in music is its complexity, then you are missing other important aspects of music - invention, originality, emotions, or simply the energy etc. . Comparing Beatles to classical music doesn't make sense.
What I didn't care for was the missing cadencial formuli in "Lucy". A guitar instrumental version is fine. But whomever arranged this left out too many dominant 7th chords. In the original intro and first verse are those I Dom 7s. in the second measures of each. leading to the lV / IV- in 3rd and 4th measures, It is just too weak without these and the general form of the original to make it satisfying. A contemporary piece made to sound baroque is a drag, Should have been a jazz arrangement retaining the main structure of John's psychedelic waltz..Doesn't mean Barrueco isn't a great musician....
I suppose the operative word/concept is "baroque." No b7ths as I chord. A drag? So you say. (arrangement by the maestro)
La decadencia cultural pues
Como de costumbre, el camarógrafo (en este caso un chino) es UN IGNORANTE de la guitarra, que enfoca estupideces (el rostro, la tapa, la figura del artista desde lejos, la mano derecha, etc.) EN LUGAR DE CONCENTRARSE EN LA MANO IZQUIERDA, que es lo más importante, sobre todo para otros guitarristas... Es una lástima.
