Mitch Hedberg (RIP) was my favourite but Demetri was excellent too. You should check out the comedian Steven (Steve) Wright. He is the ultimate short-sentence / haiku comedian. He has a very direct, dry, and philosophical delivery style. Thanks for the video.
@@maxonmendel5757 I really have no idea about Bo. I vaguely think that what I have seen, through clips on the interwebs, that I thought he was funny. I grew up in the 80's & 90's. Like other Gen-Xers, I would say Steven Wright was foundational in developing my sense of humor. If you like Demetri, look up Wright's old appearances on Letterman. Sorry, that's the best I got.
Man I’m glad someone made this video. Demetri might be my favorite comedian as well. And I consider myself a big comedy fan. I’m 28 now but when I was probably 12 or so I saw his stand up special ‘Person’ on comedy central. I was absolutely blown away. His style and approach, how he used music and art, it seriously influenced me from a very young age and as far back as I can remember I was on TH-cam watching his sets and downloading his albums and stuff on iTunes. And then this show came out. My dad and brothers hardly ever gathered around to watch something every week, South Park for a while, but when this show was on we all made sure to watch it weekly. It was so great, we all just wanted more. Was sad to see it not get some more seasons but unfortunately that’s Comedy Central for you now. They just play the office 24/7 now. A couple years ago my parents and older brother and I got a chance to see him at the Warner theater in DC. He was fantastic. Not to mention Taking Woodstock and his movie Dean. He’s a really talented guy
This really sparked some memories for me, watching important things when it was originally coming out, I loved his style and had a similar respect for his wit and intelligence, but hadn't thought about it for years. Great video, youtube algorithm got a banger with this one
He is definitely one of my favorite comedians from growing up. I find the style of a mono-story comedies hard to enjoy rewatches because they become a long drawn out story. So the quick shifts and monotone style feels more fresh to me whenever I get a rewatch.
Comedy group Aunty Donna wanted to do the connected sketches thing as well for their Netflix show and one of the producers on the show, Scott Aukerman who also wrote on Mr. Show, warned them against it and they tried but ended up giving up after realizing how many sketches would get moved around in the edit. If any comedy nerds here haven't seen Aunty Donna's Big Ol House Of Fun then they should
always loved demiri's comedy. it's short, simple, clean but still extremely clever if you ljke his stuff you'll also likely enjoy the youtube channel nigahiga, he also has a strange way of analysing play on words in very clever ways
I loved the video (and, like you, I have a place in my heart for Dimitri Martin's work). First, I would like to thank you for your work in creating this video, and second, I would like to share two experiences about connections between sketches. For many years, I produced content for TV in Brazil, and despite making my money creating and scripting banal TV programs (talent and reality shows), I was always involved in alternative comedy productions. My first connected sketch TV project was rejected by Paramount because it would simply make an already expensive and risky format even more so (this was in 2008). The connection happened by mixing characters and scenarios between the sketches, which would weave together a series of stories taking place over 24 hours in a neighborhood of a specific city. The second time I worked with story connections in a similar way was producing a fictional podcast, and the result was that 80% of listeners didn't care about the connections. So I came to the conclusion that the focus on ambitious or complex formats is much more a desire of creators than something the public will appreciate. It's clear to me that the public is more interested in quick laughs, character development (narratives), or parasocial relationships with the performers. The rest is expendable.
I'm rewatching the show because of this. Thank you. I never thought he was egotistical. I think the worst you can say is that he can be twee, largely because his comedy is smart. I also watched his latest 'Deconstructed', and definitely enjoyed. I agreed with a lot of what you said. We need comedians like him to balance out all the rage.
Demitri Martin is the direct heir of the 80’s surreal comedy legend Steve Wright To do a deep dive into Demitri Martin without mentioning the influence of Steven Wright is bizarrely incomplete.
David Hyde Pierce on-stage footage was not expected but welcomed. Also this is a great time for this to come out, Demetri just had another tour before the new standup special came out. I fuckin loved Important Things as a kid, it got me into his comedy still to this day. I preordered 'This is a book' and still have my tickets in it from 2011 when I saw him the first time.
I almost hate that this video exists. Cause important things just felt like my little secret for so long. Like everyone I know I would put onto this show. It informed my taste for years when I was a kid and holds up today as one of the best shows of all time. The music, the skits, the cast, everything was spot on. Yup, love Demetri Martin, especially Important Things
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR MAKING THIS!!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️
I think part of the charm of the show was the genuine enthusiasm for making it that bled through.
I still quote so many lines from this show.
2 part 2 has my favorite comedy sketch ever. When the two guys think they’re both interviewing for a job lol
33:00 It's true. I had a huge crush on him in my 20s when I was still young and attractive. Man, I wanted to meet him SO BAD. I still do.

"Important Things" was so quirky, but also so good. Glad it finds appreciation even in 2039.

The clip of Putin giving the flowers to Merkel was perfectly timed.
"You will question life and your purpose in it" was me during Season 3 of ITYSL.

Important things was the best show out of the block mentioned in the beginning to come out

I'm sorry, what?
I hope he did it on purpose, but for fellow 2 Bears 1 Cave fans that comment on TH-cam, the fact that he called him "Bert Chrysler" is priceless.
Upright Citizens Brigade did a good job of tying sketches together I thought.
