Good rule of thumb if you can control the % humidity is 52-55%. Boveda makes a fantastic product for equalizing humidity at the 58% range. Toss the curls in an airtight glass container with a packet overnight and they’re depringling the next morning.
Hell yeah!! This is seriously, the most effective and efficient way to fix holo/foil curling I've ever seen. You are awesome for sharing this. Thank you!
Thanks for spending the time to make a video and post the results. It might be also interesting to test the optimal humidity to have a card maintain it's factory state. You can buy small battery operated humidity sensors and with a clear window humidor you can probably find the optimal solution for consistent results.
I may have over-wet the sponge, but this ended up working in a matter of hours. The first five put in there straightened out in 90 minutes. I then did two layers of mountains overnight and they came out wonderfully, though two at the bottom near the sponge ended up counter-curled. These dried out to flat in normal air over about four hours. Only side-effect, they all smell of Spanish cedar now (bonus?). Bulk lands (KHM & non-full NEO & MID) so I'm storing them in sealed zip-locks for the moment. Awesome advice guys!
I use a lock and seal Tupperware container and some Humidipacks I use for my acoustic guitar case, i think its actually the same brand that makes them for cigars and It works! It does take time, usually 3 days to a week though for them to uncurl. After that I double sleeve them and I'm good. I used to solely avoid foils cause of this but now that I know how to uncurl them I try getting them if the card price is similar to a non foil version.
Not bad, real cool. Science power. I deal with this in woodworking. If I was prowling for cool cards at regionals I’d pay a premium for flattened foils.
Hi, I didn't understand probably by language barrier, you basically put a sponge filled with distilled water near the bended cards closed in a box over several nights? Thanks a lot
ty, i heard leaving a humidity 62% pack in a air tight container does the work just fine. I hope its similar to yalls method since i recieved bent foils in the mail after getting a crimson vow bundle.
Oh you hosers! That was great. Science is awesome! This is a chemical/physics solution vs a mechanical solution. I like. (I have seen faster, similar methods; but I believe this is a nice, gentle method)
Good question Meh, we haven't tried it. But I'm guessing you need the non-foil side to have access to the air to allow the humidity back in, allowing the card to settle again.
awesome video guys. I live in Sweden and also happen to have relatives that emigrated to Canada a long time ago. It's basically the same weather for people and for magic cards. And I need to do this but Ive got too many foil rares! I would do it on my Old Moneybones and Demilich, however. My main concern with the curl is that my foil cards get damage in the corners as I sleeve them up and apparently while they are sleeved up. So Ive got Moneybones, Demilich and co waiting to get scratched corners because I havent uncurled them and theyre sealed "tight". heck my foil extended planeswalker got a huge wear mark, literally paper got ripped off, on the corner. Sealable "dragon"? sleeves. :(
There are re-sealable perfect fits you can buy. Using this method to flatten an entire collection isn't too practicle, but using it to flatten just your deck playables can be really handy.
damp paper towel or a sponge in a sealed container with the card on top of a couple top loaders also does the trick! Give the card a wipe afterwards just in case and you should be good to go!
Hey I really loved this video! I live somewhere where there is to much humidity causing them to curl in the other direction. Do you have any ideas on how to straighten them out if that is the problem? (I really don't want to give them stretch marks lol)
Heya Kris! The best way I’ve seen is to keep them as close to a dehumidifier as you can, and leave it for a few days. The smaller the room the better. Another way is to purchase desiccant packets, put them in an air tight container and check them daily like the humidor idea. Those packs remove humidity and should help. We have not used those ourselves so test with some common foils first! Once the cards are flat again, double sleeve to prevent as much air transfer as possible. Hope this helps!
Did you try this with a bunch of cards? Trying to determine if a humidor or the packs would be best. Have a bunch of cheap lands that came with a slight curl to them.
Not 100%, but it certainly slows down the air transfer enough that you can go several months without having them curl on you again. Great if you're going to be playing foils at an upcoming competitive event, or selling foils online.
I have a legendary collection reverse holo charmander that has a wavy or "w" like warp down the left side of the card. I tried flattening with books and 50lbs but it only helped a little. What can I do to flatten it competely?completely?! :( card is NM with NO creasing
New to mtg and i love the game but the curling thing is a joke especially since it has been going on for years. Woc needs to fix this and I’m coming from Pokémon where I’ve never had a Pokémon holo Curl up. They need to use a new foil/pattern. The cards will look better as well than just a rainbow color
So basically build a humidor room if you have more than 1000 foils…. You can convert any sauna…. Lol I book Press a lot especially the oversized commander cards I have….
Yugioh definitely uses different printer than MTG, so it's something to do with the card stock and foiling materials. Flesh and Blood has the same curling as MTG as well 😂 same card stock.
I just commented this as well but for Pokémon it’s super annoying especially for the fact that OLD Pokémon cards were made by woc and those cards still have yet to curl after 20 years
My earlier comment may have disappeared because of mention of where I got my humidity packs lol. I tried using humidity packs and they work. But they don't have a long shelf life so the costs add up. I will pick one if these up as my OCD really hates the curl.
Either way, coach, you’ll end up with an imbalance between the layers. The key will likely be a foil layer that expands/contracts with water at the same rate as the paper…
Came here for advice on straightening out foils, hit like and stayed for that glorious stache!!
This has got to be the most helpful one I have seen compared to all the other videos I have watched about fixing curled foil cards. Thanks gentlemen!
I find it easier to avoid the new foils. I do appreciate your time and effort though. I'm glad my 20 year old foils are still flat with no effort.
Very nice. We also love the older foils, most of them just look better too!
Thicker card stock I think with the older ones.

No problem we are glad you liked it!

Move the studio into a climate controlled room! Sounds like too much to manage, even getting the lighting right is hard enough 😂

Really glad it worked so well for you Jathby, that's great!
Great vid! If you cant manage to find a humidifier or dehumidifier, theres packets online that you can seal with your cards in a closed container
It’s so dry here in the prairies boys thank you so much I was considering a humidor but thought it was a crazy solution
Awesome! I only have one secret lair and it was curl city.
Can't wait to try this method. On cheap Commons first of course
Definitely practice first, and don't forget about them like Morgan did one time haha
I use a lock and seal Tupperware container and some Humidipacks I use for my acoustic guitar case, i think its actually the same brand that makes them for cigars and

Definitely trying this out. I've been steam-treating followed by a week double-sleeved in a flower press with only marginal results.
What a great video! Well done guys!
Not bad, real cool. Science power. I deal with this in woodworking. If I was prowling for cool cards at regionals I’d pay a premium for flattened foils.
Is there a specific lvl of humidity you keep them at? And how many cards at a time can you put in it and still get them to straighten out properly?
Hi, I didn't understand probably by language barrier, you basically put a sponge filled with distilled water near the bended cards closed in a box over several nights?
Thanks a lot
Wow, this is amazing, I genuinely might try this out.
Just ordered my humidor boys. Cant wait to uncurl my commander legends Preordains!!
i've been looking forward to uncurling cards as a hobby. what humidor did you get?

Happy Saturday, interested to watch this
Very helpful. Thanks!
Interesting idea on how to address foil card curling using humidor to achieve the goal.
Thanks you guys. Question, if using a humidifor like this, can you stack multiple cards on top of each other while in there during the process?
Good question Meh, we haven't tried it. But I'm guessing you need the non-foil side to have access to the air to allow the humidity back in, allowing the card to settle again.

What a nice video! but what if we want to try the opposite?
damp paper towel or a sponge in a sealed container with the card on top of a couple top loaders also does the trick! Give the card a wipe afterwards just in case and you should be good to go!
Are cigar boxes hermetic or can I use any box that closes half well?

@@MTGNorth Yes, I live in Florida and mine curl the other way. glad to know it's too much moisture.
God bless you two
looks like a great solution, but imagine if wotc fixed their foiling process to where this didnt happen anymore o.o
Yea imagine a company actually selling us something not terrible that would be amazing
Herrm may have to invest into a cigar humidor box, or maybe two.
Nice fix!
do i have to do this to my cards once a week or do i just need to do it once and it will be uncurled perminantly?
How many cards can you do at one time in this humidor?
Did you try this with a bunch of cards? Trying to determine if a humidor or the packs would be best. Have a bunch of cheap lands that came with a slight curl to them.
Can you link the one you guys used in the video?
It's an older model, but it's from a brand called Colibree. I don't see that exact one for sale, but you can also look up humidors on Amazon.
Wow, amazing. I’d have bet anything they curl again after a few days… I’m surprised a sleeve is humidity proof 🤔
Not 100%, but it certainly slows down the air transfer enough that you can go several months without having them curl on you again. Great if you're going to be playing foils at an upcoming competitive event, or selling foils online.
how much time in the humidour please?
Depends on the humidity levels you're working with, but it's ok to check the card every hour or so, especially when you're first starting.
@@MTGNorth thank you very much
Would this word on sports card s or would the card stock be to thick
I just have a big stack of hard cover books and a brick to straighten my curled cards.
What happens if you don't use a humidor and just put a card in airtight container with sponge
Not exactly sure, but try it with a cheap common first and let me know if it works, should in theory!
Nice!
going to be buying a humidor now lol

Brother, did you forgot to watch the video?
Mine curl top to bottom, not side to side.
Humidity is usually 50-80%
If I have to watch my magic cards as closely as I have to watch my cigars, I call that a chore! Best to avoid foils
My stranger things secret lair got so curled. Hope this helps them.
I could do this, but now what am I going to use my bowl of water for?
Your cat can drink out of if !
I dont even buy foil cards because i hate how they bend

Woc needs to fix this and I’m coming from Pokémon where I’ve never had a Pokémon holo Curl up. They need to use a new foil/pattern. The cards will look better as well than just a rainbow color
i'll try using a mildly damp sponge in a ziplock bag
So basically build a humidor room if you have more than 1000 foils…. You can convert any sauna…. Lol I book Press a lot especially the oversized commander cards I have….
nice
So I just need a special tool that costs 40usd and a week to keep my expensive playing cards playable?! Damn what a bargain.
Or just run a dehumidifier/humidifier, depending on where you live ;)
trying this on a yu-gi-oh card hope it works
Did it work?
Honestly I dispise Magic foils. Yugioh never had issues with foils curling and idk why it's only magics that curl
Yugioh definitely uses different printer than MTG, so it's something to do with the card stock and foiling materials. Flesh and Blood has the same curling as MTG as well 😂 same card stock.

STOP the osmosis!
Very smrt ;)
I am so smart, S M R T

Yeah we have filters for comments totally off, but youtube will get carried away protecting the children still!
What’s a small humidor like that cost?
I wish they would abandon foils all together
FFS…. To spend good money on those Secret lairs foils , just to have to do upkeep on them !! 😰
Makes collecting them a tough ask for sure! Stick to etched 😅
@@MTGNorth 👍 .
This makes too much sense. Maybe they will get climate controlled print shops, or lower the humidity % of the paper before adding the foil
Either way, coach, you’ll end up with an imbalance between the layers. The key will likely be a foil layer that expands/contracts with water at the same rate as the paper…
So move out of CO
