I started on a live blade, and I truly do not understand the people who think live is the only way to start. If you get a trainer with the same weight and dimensions as the live that you want to flip, who cares? You're being safer with the hobby. Nothing wrong with that.
Jere Pippola it’s not that bad once you get used to it. It’s super heavy, and personally I like the heavier shorter Balis. I have 2 62ts and while they aren’t the best flippers I do like the weight of them. The HOM design Rhapsody is by far my favorite flipper I own. Best action, no tap, fantastic tolerances. And it’s also a heavier Bali 5.1 oz I think and has shorter handles.
The 62 is probably a better beater that a flipper. The benchmade warranty combined with the handles makes it a great beater. Can’t say though, I don’t own one.

So knives like Atropos, Fiore, Ryworx, FHM, etc... are technically illegal in the US. People still bring them over, and no one's really going to go tracking you down for having one, but they do get siezed at the border from time to time Look up the "Federal Switchblade Act of 1958"
I actually love my artisan Kinect multi tool balisong. Love the pry bar featur and the flathead screw driver as well. And after im done of on break i can just flip away
The Mako and Squidtrainer dont have Bushings, also the 62T is complete trash, its way to heavy and way to small. Nowadays Benchmade doesnt make such nice Balis anymore, they arent the "Gold Standart" anymore, theres way better things to buy

The budget bear and son's have a zink aloy handle. Theyre not steel, I found that out the hard way. A quick way to see if it's steel is to put a magnet to it. Zink iz not however

But if you want a live blade you definitely need to research the laws around them and whether theyre allowed. I say this as a new zealander with quite a few trainers (butterfly knives are illegal here)

Just got a Magnum by Böker 2 days ago. I am a complete beginner, but I love to flip quickly. Also, the knife fell on the floor quite some times. The downward screw on the blade fell out a lot of times and now I lost it so now the blade can't point straight upwards when I open the knife. Terrible decision by manufacturers in my opinion. They could've just expand those screws on the edges so that they don't fall off. I'm sorry if I haven't explained it clearly, but I hope that you'll get the idea.
If you can spend just a little more, look up marcolo g10, or andux g10 on Amazon. These aren’t great balisongs, but they’re way better than most cheap balis.

the reason that the good knives had no latch is because it offsets the weight, and if your an experienced flipper it makes a difference, and may sometimes get in the way.

glidr has great options, arctic is great for its price (~$115 for bearings and quality hardware) but is almost always out of stock, if you don’t want to wait a mako v4.5 is around the same price but runs on washers. Squid industries also creates the squiddy which is a great cheaper option, ~$50 for the squiddy (I would suggest the squiddy b, a little more expensive but better material)

Both feel very good but each has a different feel which is probably down to the difference between bronze washers and ball bearings.
