I'm 20 years old. Grew up with my mother playing this song when I was young. It brings back so much nostalgia and comfort from when my mother would hold me as a child or looking out the window on long car rides. An absolute masterpiece! Makes me want to cry every time I play it.

I am glad that American Pie is one of the only albums my dad owns (it's digital), because it introduced me to McLean's stunning work at the age of eight. I didn't fully understand its depth then, and doubt I ever will, but I fell in love with the melody and emotion behind it. Artists today follow a cookie cutter formula for producing songs, which is why I often find myself returning to the magnificence that is Don McLean's music. Thank you for making my young life all the much better Mr. McLean!

Rarely do I hear this song without being moved to tears. What a moving, powerful song. It amazes me how the true masters can elicit so much emotion with just their voice and a guitar. No million watt sound system, no three lead guitars and thundering bass and drums, no dazzling light show or pyrotechnics. Just a man, a voice, a guitar, and a staggering amount of talent. Should you read, or be told of this post, I want you to know that I am forever in your debt, Mr. McLean.

Its so relevant to all the beautiful people who do not fit the Greedenomics Reason For Existence but are here for the joy of our creative capabilities and sharing of human love by the mutual appreciation of arts.
In my life, Jimi is the Vincent and yet I revere Don, Donovan, Dylan, Simon, Croce, Cat, Joni, Melanie as much as Page, Plant, Carlos, Knoffler. Its all just different colours and parts of the big picture and sadly some are " not listening still, perhaps they never will".

Heard this from the radio a week ago for the first time. I didn't know the title so I searched Starry Starry night as it was what stuck to me.. Glad it brought me here. Now I'm excited to hear more of his songs. I wish more people from the younger generation ( who still don't know him) find his music like I did. When I heard this, I cried so hard cause I know Vincent's story. I wish someone would've written this song of comfort to him back in his days. If not to Vincent, this song-- a masterpiece on its own-- may be a source of comfort and hope to more people.

Absolutely beautiful. The set is well designed with good lighting. This is my favorite song of Don’s. The subject matter, the words, the finger picking, the phrasing and delivery. Superb. As a finger picker with 4 picks, I love it when I see other performers using 4 picks. When artists perform their songs 40 years later plus, there is so much depth their life experiences have added to their songs. I love the maturity their age brings to their music. And, his wonderful guitar is in tune on this one. Again, his rolling tempo, the little flourishes of notes on the strings, his vocal phrasing is so perfect. I love it. Great job Don! This is a treasured performance.

It’s my opinion that the song “Vincent”; with its brilliant, powerful and poignant lyrics is as monumental as anything composed by the greatest musicians, composers, and poets in the history of man. It is a most worthy tribute to a beautiful soul that graced this earth for a blip in time yet left those of us who would come after a glimpse into the heart and mind of a man who tried to show us on canvas what he saw. You have to look deeper with spiritual eyes to see what Vincent was trying to show the world.

I am quite sure this song did a little contribution to the legend and fame of Vincent because it so true. Mister McClean couldn't have write it without fully knowing and feeling what this incredible artist was all about. Unwieldly human attempt to love and be loved and to understand the subjectivity of reality. The reason why Van Gogh can be seen as the world most beloved painter is the fact that anyone can relate to the paintings he made. You don't have to be an art critic to deeply feel the emotional layers of paints put on these magnificent canvases. Mostly ignored and misunderstood at his time but now the most precious treasures we have. And this song is clicked to them forever.

Am I the only one that's that's stunned at how amazing Don still looks and sounds? This song is almost as old as me. I was too young to listen to it when it came out. Perhaps I'll listen now!

I just gave this song a fresh, deep listen and it means more to me now than ever. I lost my husband 8 months ago…he suffered from depression. What a beautiful song that has touched so many with its beauty and universal meaning.

This is the ONE song, and I mean the ONE song that I will never get tired of in every performance, and it's also seems like of all the artists out there, only Don McLean can sing this well. ONLY him. Very rarely have I been lucky enough to encounter a song that truly encapsulates a certain magnanimous and unexplainable emotion in your soul. This is a true definition of a masterpiece, a masterpiece that Don McLean TRULY owns, and is TRULY timeless. I just want to point out how I've always thought that the "choke" directly after "...with eyes that know the darkness in my soul" instead of pausing for a while (which we all initially expected when listening to the song) was just truly genius - it's like beautiful chaos. I always wanted to say that.
I cannot say more about this song. I just can't believe a human being came out with this, you know. I'm truly blessed to have ever had the pleasure to find this song. THANKYOU!!!

If Vincent were a painting, it would be one of Dali; Thank you for toasting humanity with a beautiful song like Vincent.
