    Man, there's something really somber about those lines

      @@thra5herxb12s Assuming this individual gives a shit about the united states XD. Also what the hell kinda freedom is it with so many mandatory obligations just to have the "privilege", not freedom but "privilege", to work in an economic system that is influenced by its greatest powers to harbor guaranteed success in the few at the cost of many. Where also the greatest proponents of consideration for bettering the lives those beyond the U.S. are also the most determined to cause detriment and failure of those within.
      DONT GET ME WRONG.
      I am not saying that the U.S. isn't one of the G.O.A.T country's in all of known history, its just really sad that this is some of the best humanity has mustered. Governments, capitalism, socialism, these aren't bad ideas but millions of greedy apes most concerned with their immediate surroundings at any one point just suck at utilizing them. Now Democracy, in terms of freedom especially, that is innately a terrible idea... literally is the bigger group threatening to use force to the smaller group if they dont do, accept, or contribute to something they don't wanna... like I mean come on "freedom"? Could be worse, still not freedom.
      So moral of the story I agree, people should be able to move to where ever they please without being stopped by some imaginary boundary and instead governed by the nonaggression principle unfortunately not a single dumbass democrat or republican in power on the planet agrees with both of these simultaneously cause the avg of humanity as it turns out is terrible.

    “When Napoleon lay at Boulogne for a year with his flat-bottomed boats and his Grand Army, he was told by someone, "there are bitter weeds in England." There are certainly a great many more of them since the British Expeditionary Force returned. Sir I have, myself, full confidence that if all do their duty, if nothing is neglected, and if the best arrangements are made, as they are being made, we shall prove ourselves once again able to defend our Island home, to ride out the storm of war, and to outlive the menace of tyranny, if necessary for years, if necessary alone.
    At any rate, that is what we are going to try to do. That is the resolve of His Majesty’s Government-every man of them. That is the will of Parliament and the nation.
    The British Empire and the French Republic, linked together in their cause and in their need, will defend to the death their native soil, aiding each other like good comrades to the utmost of their strength.
    We shall go on to the end, we shall fight in France,
    we shall fight on the seas and oceans,
    we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our Island, whatever the cost may be,
    we shall fight on the beaches,
    we shall fight on the landing grounds,
    we shall fight in the fields and in the streets,
    we shall fight in the hills;
    we shall never surrender, and even if, which I do not for a moment believe, this Island or a large part of it were subjugated and starving, then our Empire beyond the seas, armed and guarded by the British Fleet, would carry on the struggle, until, in God’s good time, the New World, with all its power and might, steps forth to the rescue and the liberation of the old.”

    • @emo_girlbymgk8181
      @emo_girlbymgk8181 4 ปีที่แล้ว +76

      Gregory Smith Napoléon tried to take Britain, but the previously mentioned battle of Trafalgar literally is the reason people say “Britannia rules the waves.”, I.e. The battle was so decisive it ensured British naval dominance for just under a century. The reason Hitler invaded the Soviet Union was for oil(and other strategic resources) and to destroy Bolshevism. The reason they needed oil was because without it they couldn’t run the aeroplanes necessary to gain supremacy of the English Channel.

That's why they tried to be more lenient in the Paris Peace Conference. Until you can point out to me how Churchill started ANY of the above conflicts, best to just cool yourself down, pack your things and head to the nearest asylum.

    Churchill may have had a less than perfect personality, and some primitive and horrible views, but he was an excellent war time leader for great Britain, and he helped bring peace and freedom to all of us, wherever we are in the world, and I think he really does deserve to be remembered in history as one of the heroes of mankind.

      @funkEfresh94 6 ปีที่แล้ว +80

      Yes, as I said he had some horrible primitive views on many things, and he was the wrong kind of politician in my opinion as well, and these facts among other reasons is why he was sacked by the public right after the war, and i'm not saying another leader wouldn't have been just as much of a hero in his place (or more so), but just the fact that he was the man who lead Britain to victory over the Nazis makes him a hero of mankind for me, regardless of all of his shortcomings..
      Sure, he's less of a hero than a sane and humane, but just as competent wartime leader would have been in his place, but history had Churchill, and in hindsight I say just the fact that he was the commander and chief of a country that contributed so much to the allied effort still makes him good enough to make it into that hall of heroes.

      @@Amargosa2006 there was something called the Brisbane - Melbourne line during WW2, Essentially everything to the west and north of the line drawn between the two cities would have been allowed to fall into enemy hands with little to no resistance.
      The idea was that Australia's vast distances and lack of water in the interior would have been used as a way to weaken the Japanese invaders before they reached the areas that were worth defending.
      John Curtin the prime minister said no and the Australian war cabinet also said no, I'm not sure if it was Churchill's idea but there was Labor minister Eddie ward, an Australian who thought it should really be considered...
      Nonetheless, even if it was Churchill who suggested it, that doesn't mean we cannot respect the Poms of WW2 and their sacrifices and hardships they endured as well as all allies, to make sure the world was a better place.
      Also another thing to note is that during WW2 Australia was under its own command, they were not inclined to listen to the British just because we were apart of the commonwealth, we learned that lesson the hard way at gallipoli as I'm sure you know.

    "If necessary alone" I think that gives a huge insight into Churchills mindset... Even if no allies were to help England v Germany he was willing to see England burn to the ground before he would ever surrender!
    For a country so small England really has one of the largest impacts on the world... colonizing America , and having the biggest Empire in history to this day more or less conquered the world at one point, not to mention most of the world speaks there language also. England have invaded 90% of the countries in the world... 😳

Canada had no obligation to fight with Britain , they were independent after the WW1 .But still Canada choosed to fight with the allies for plenty reason, they gave their blood and fought in France, Italia and Belgium. They were in the DDay , and Canada’s industry were producing A LOT to sustain the British. Everyone gave their blood for this bloody war.

      Stories By Design He was referring specifically to the United States, Churchill continually pushed for America to join the war; FDR actually sympathized with Churchill and Great Britain but joining another world war unprovoked and without a declaration of war against the US would’ve been political suicide and FDR knew that. The last bit about the new world and the other colonies was actually requested by FDR, FDR asked Churchill to promise he would move the fleet overseas and keep fighting if Great Britain somehow fell (which it obviously didn’t even come close too)...

      Jacob I was a youngster in England during the Second World War and I remember my mum was working in a munitions factory and my aunt was working in the land army. When that speech came over on the radio my mum was at home having her lunch and started to cry (I didn’t really understand) but then she dried her eyes and said “well then I better get back to work”. The women took over the men’s jobs, quite admirably so there was no perfume in locker rooms, probably the smell of cutting oil for the machinery and the smell of manure from the farms. Also, we were rationed and perfume was not available, neither were any so-called female luxuries as we needed food to survive. As well, there were many nurses and ambulance drivers, women spotters in the RAF and if we were actually invaded we would have been fighting too as most of the people left in Great Britain were pensioners, men who didn’t pass their medical and young people not yet old enough to join up. Sorry to spoil your view of the “fair sex”.

    I understand why many Americans had such isolationist sentiments, with the horrible memory of World War I still fresh in their minds, but we should have come to Britain's defense sooner. We should not have left them to fend off Nazi Germany's bombs on their own. Whenever I hear a fellow American say "We saved Britain's ass in World War II." Bullshit. Maybe we did save them from losing the whole war, but we took our sweet time doing it, and they held off the daily bombing campaigns of the Nazi air force for a long time before we showed up. Hitler planned to soften Britain's defenses and demoralize its people with the bombing campaign to prepare for a land invasion. But he underestimated the strength and resolve of the British people. With every bomb dropped on London, he only strengthened their determination to endure and eventually defeat him. The United States should have declared war on Nazi Germany the instant the first bomb hit London.

      Thank you for this, I salute you. Britain was in the war from 3rd September 1939 to August 1945, almost 6 years (and over 6 years by the time the 'Forgotten Army' came back from India and Burma in late '45/early '46, my Commando father included). That's a full 2 years, 3 months before the USA entered the war after Pearl Harbour. Fact.

      I Never normally comment on anything on youtube but @ZachBamfy i thought i would at least point out some of the things that were "given" were part of a lend-lease pact, and a debt that the UK would not fully pay off until 2006 with the interest added to that.
      In addition to this the "war supplies" you did not come at a small price either considering that they were often obsolete items remaining from the first world war. The “Destroyers for Bases” agreement is one such example. Under the terms of the agreement, the United States gave the British more than 50 obsolete destroyers, in exchange for territory in Newfoundland and the Caribbean, which would be converted/used as U.S. air and naval bases, so it wasn't as if the aid didn't benefit the US in any way.

      Yeah, it pains me as an American to hear other Americans say that the USA basically won WW2. Was it a major player, certainly. Even if the Brits and Soviets eventually defeated Germany, they probably would have been so depleted from loss of life and resources they would still feel the repercussions today. So yes, the USA did WORK. But it did not beat Germany alone.

Once Hitler discovered this plan he struck Russia and if he hadn't, all of Europe would have been totally fucked.

      johnnyisfun21 since it took you a week to reply to post this dumb comment i do not take your seriously anymore. national socialism is completely a different idea than modern socialism. in fact the only thing common pretty much is the word socialism. look up how national socialism is a system that follows the laws of human nature and wants people to put effort into the creation of a bigger and better society and not only for themselves. This was the main reason why pre ww2 germany became a superpower in a short amount of time and it took the whole world to bring them down.
