The creator of eberron is Keith Baker. And he has a blog where he helps flesh out eberron more and encourages others to change it how they need to thwir own games
I just found this. And I was blown away how in-depth this was for a new Shifter Player. I thank you so much for this resource. And so many aspects of their culture and recent history I could use in the campaign.
I’m building a shifter now and for the life of me couldn’t really get a good backstory togetherness.

One of my favorite characters ever was a shifter who had an almost overwhelming protective nature for his friends like a big brother, ironically being one of the youngest characters in game.
I'm currently playing a shifter warlock that acts as a younger brother being the youngest in the party. This is my second campaign and my first campaign that lasted longer than a month and I absolutely love this character. After deciding on this race I wanted some deeper lore on them and this video was amazing
I imagine kind of a thunder cats feel for this race.

I just found out about this race today, and I LOVE the design philosophy behind it! It's so versatile, whether you're talking character appearance and personality, or game mechanics. You want to be a Fighter, Barbarian, Monk, Rogue, Ranger, Druid, or Cleric? Shifter has an ideal solution for you! Even if it's not totally meta, there's a sub-race with a point in Charisma for Paladins, Bards, Sorcerers, and Warlocks, and you still get 2 points in Dexterity which is beneficial for anybody. The only class getting the short shrift is Wizard, but that's what they get for inventing their own ability score that's exclusively useful to themselves and no one else.
I would really like to have some of the shifter feats converted to 5E.

One of my two most favorite races from Eberron.
For tattoo work I imagine they would have to take some temporary ink or die. Draw out patterns on the body to see how their skin muscle moves before attempting to do something permanent.

A note, they updated the shifters in the Rising from the Last War book.
They no longer all get +1 Dex
Beasthide keeps athletics proficiency and shifting bonus, but goes +2 Con, +1 Strength
Longtooth is basically the same, +2 strength, +1 Dex, intimidate and bonus action attack
Swiftstride is the mostly the same , +2 Dex, +1 Charisma, and acrobatics. But, they do not gain the +5ft speed, intstead getting +10 while shifted though the reaction is the same
And then the big change. Wildhunts. Still +2 wisdom and +1 dex, and survival, but they lost the tracking abaility and instead while shifted now have advantage on wisdom checks and any creature within 30 ft of them cannot gain advantage on attack rolls against them. This allows for some fun shenangins with things like the Barbarian's reckless attack

I'm considering doing that but I'm thinking of my female Cat-based Swiftstrider Shifter PC a treasure hunter and if I can find a DM that will allow it have Gunslinger as my class basically think "cat-girl Lara Croft but with the personality of Nathan Drake".

Yes and no. They have animalistic characteristics and traits of whichever animal was part of the curse of lycanthropy in their ancestry. So yes, the ears, nails, teeth, etc, are all animalistic, but not necessarily just wolves. I read in a comment somewhere that somebody made a beasthide goat shifter barbarian. Which.. 😂😂 thats kind of awesome.
You guys should do a lore video on the Elder Evils and their Starspawn! That'd be super interesting since they're so mysterious in dnd lore.

It sounds like shifters always have a bug out bareback ready to go. Also I will Lycan hand fur-scribe. It would be great to have a character who was in exile from his own people. an old Male banished because he betrayed his people by helping to sell them out back in his youth.

Great video. I think a lot of this lore only applies to the Ebberon setting. Even in Khorvaire I'd probably make changes because many of the behavioral race traits seem too restrictive.
It would really be interesting talking about Eberron cities and how races co-exist in them
I found it odd that the Swift Strider gets a +5 boon to their walking speed, but the Tabaxi do not. On the other hand, feline agility racial trait allows the Tabaxi to move double their speed per combat round but can't do it again until they don't move at all for one round before using it again

i could stretch my disbelief on a tiger being a long tooth but a cheetah XD i mean considering wolves are endurance hunters, but honestly i dont care too much its more like im curious where i could try and fit a racoon shifter in 👀,for that Gorbage/thief archetype (had to keep listening about the cheetah thing, i did not know about that)

also if 70 years old is the average, and most deaths lets say in human statistics are of quite young children, given shifters even more wild like society i bet they also have a even more wild death rate of children i bet the top end of living age might be even higher than 70 if you take the child deaths out of the equation , but im not very good at math so maybe im wrong but its what i assume (i imagine its more for flavor that they tend to just die at 70 of old age and wasn't meant to be taken any more seriously than that)
