Lulu is the one you see with the red hair in the movie, she is the one singing it, and you will see her sing it at the graduation party at the end. I don't understand why NO ONE has reacted to this whole movie! It is SUCH a good movie.

The lady at 1:29 in the video is Lulu. She was in the movie and was married to Maurice Gibb of the BeeGees.

I was in sixth grade when this movie came out and my Mother said I couldn't go see it when a friend asked me to go see it with her. I went anyway and lied to my Mom and told her that we saw another movie instead. My first major lie as a teenager. Great movie and I'm a long time fan of Sidney Poitier and Lulu.

Lulu is the red headed girl in the purple sweater. What a great movie!! One of my favorites to this day! You should watch it. ( and yes, the blonde does develop a crush on Sir, but he quashes it Immediately, because he's a proper gentleman!!) She comes to her senses, and it all works out in the end. The ENTIRE class ends up respecting him.

That's is legendary iconic actor, director & dilomat Sidney Poitier he just recently passed away back in January age 94. Originally from Bahamas born in Miami fL was raised in carribean. He has very interesting story love his movies as well very active in the civil rights movement. He played a big part breaking down the barriers of black male actors getting prominent roles. Love Lulu she has a beautiful voice and can sing

yup you got it, empress, though it wasn't specifically only her but the entire class that was brought to adulthood, sung through her perspective.
the singer lulu also co-starred in this film as a student (short haired red head). in those final scenes, poitier's sir is leaving to take an engineering job (his original profession) so the kids compose and sing this song as a thank you along with that gift. sir is so moved that he rips up his engineer invite to stay and teach. if that whole scene doesn't bring you to tears you aren't human. see the film, it is excellent ❤

*Empress* As a Guy with loads of empathy,I felt beauty of the sentiment....The Emotional beauty of it was so moving,It made me cry a bit, because of the gratitude that came from it.....Poitier`s Character AWOKEN their respective Humanities, and their self-respect,and made them stronger and more wiser, hense MY being moved,by the sentiment. I do not know if you like or think being VERY Empathetic is a good thing...But in me...I cannot help my being moved by such a beautiful sentiment,,, But that is ME,I GUESS! *shrugs*

Nostalgia ride for me.GREAT song and GREAT film.I remember watching the movie with my then girlfriend FATAU-TUPU(Tupu for short)a samoan woman,at my apt.I had just returned from Germany,I had been seriously injured in an ambush in Iraq on a combat patrol.I deployed there with the Texas National Guard.I was recovering at Ramstein Air Force hospitol for 3& 1/2 months, this was in 2006,from there once I was fit,I was sent back to Ft Hood,Tx with my rear-detachment unit.Tupu waited for me while I was deployed(good woman)we watched-To Sir With Love at my apt,Tupu started crying at 2 key emotional scenes and I ribbed her pretty good for it.We both laughed.Tupu told me she really enjoyed the film.I lost 8 of my friends in that ambush,I still have nightmares about it,even with medication.I feel lucky to be ALIVE.BUT,I do miss my buddies,DEARLY. @@EmpressReactsThank you Empress, you're sooo sweet and kind. You remind me a lot of my 5 sisters, whom I love dearly. But,it was the nature of the beast, the military needed bodies to fight wars on 2 fronts,so they recalled joes like me back to active duty toAgo fight overseas.I did 4 yrs US Navy & 7 yrs US Army before heading to Iraq.I thought I might deploy once or twice, not 4 times !!! DAMN !!! LOL.I did my first 2 deployments back-to back!!! OUCH. LOL.That truly sucked!!! LOL.My then wife left me when I told her about the 2nd tour,at least she told she was leaving to my face.It felt like someone kicked me in the stomach!!! I was really PISSED!!! LOL.Decide to take it out on the ENEMY!!! AND I DID.My soldiers called me-MAD-DOG-behind my back LOL.BUT,they didn't know why I was sooo ANGRY.I never told anyone I was DRAFTED to fight a war I didn't believe in. I just showed up,cocked.locked and ready to ROCK!!! LOL.Sorry my thread is sooo long, have a lot to say. SEMPER-FI.

I saw the film many years ago before there were alot of movies with the same plot.they came after.
It's a great movie and Sidney is very good in it.i don't think he made a bad movie and he's a good looking fella.this song usually makes me emotional.
Please checkout Lulu's first hit that she had not long before this when she was 15 called shout.alot of people recognise the opening note.also checkout her song with UK band take that from the 90's called relight my fire 30years after shout came out.

One more comment - The version of the song you saw showed scenes with the entirety of the song. In the movie itself, there were 3 times it was heard. The very beginning, towards the middle during a scene at the museum, and at the ending. My personal favorites were the museum scene and the ending scene. I have the links to those two below ... however, if you haven't seen the movie yet, perhaps watch that before watching these clips...
Link #1: Mid-scene going to the museum - what I like about this scene is that the faces of the students gets superimposed with the artwork, and its wonderful how they mimic one another. the song here is at its best I think. (th-cam.com/video/7aSFoY3W3NM/w-d-xo.html )
Link #2: End scene - this is the point in the movie that shows Lulu actually singing to Sir. You really have to watch the movie first to appreciate this one. (th-cam.com/video/nXaEf4ktpPA/w-d-xo.html )

I would like to add, don't just watch this movie, but watch EVERY Sidney Poitier movie you can .... as far as I can tell, every movie he was in has been incredible. (By the way, there was also a follow-up movie to this one ..."To Sir With Love 2" ... that I have never been able to find. It takes place decades later...)
