My favorite tip is to straight lace the boots as tight as you can get around the toe cap. It helps in creating that "wave" he's talking about, of course combined with the use of the balm and frequent polishing.
yeah a little is good to start with. the leather naturally gets dry over time so if you oversaturate them they will eventually dry back out. i overdid these ones so they got kinda soggy at first but after they dried out they still require a light application here and there to supplement leathers natural oils being lost. these boots eventually turned into being wet everyday and soaking up a entire can of wonder balm to keep them from shrinking. dry leather sucks so do supplement with the balm
I always use the product on the black shiny ones it works good on those i wouldn't put it on the suede ones but im pretty sure you don't have those ones i put it on the brown ones too just don't saturate or it will take to long for it to dry back out essentially all leather get more dry over time and needs to have oils replaced from the leather
the wonder balm is ok for the crazy horse but definitely don’t over saturate as the flat texture will absorb oil and get darker and soggy. Leather needs its oils replenished over time or else cracks will form. just go ez on the product compared to the shiny type finish shoes
as time went on my crazy horses got wet and turned light brown again at that point a light application of wonder balsam was better and suitable just don't oversaturate or your shoe will look like a mechanics boot after working in the oil pit
the crazy horses are matte finish and look better in a light brown color they might do well with a light application but not too much i oversaturated them where it would have been appropriate for the waxy type of docs
Hi Travis!! Love your videos, you have such a nice energy! I noticed you sometimes change the perspective on using or not wonder balm for the crazy horses. What do you think rn? Is it going to even dry them more? Or is it helping?

Definitely more applications in the beginning until the threat of leather cracking is balanced out with balm. I do one polish before my first walk in the shoes and every time after that until I'm satisfied it's not going to crack. Miss out on a few polishes early and you can't get that time back.
Travis, I’ve made a mistake and applied the wonder balsam on the shoes while there was sand on the the shoes so now I have like a paste of wonder balsam with sand on the shoes, how can I clean and wash away the wonder balsam and the sand from the shoes without damaging? Thanks
Anyone know if putting balsam on white doc's will change the color? I'd like to make the pair last but I don't won't to discolor them before I even wear them
I have a pair of crazy horse ones, still not sure whether to use Wonder Balsam or Dubbin. Anyone has experience with either of these on their crazy horses?
jsprite123 i just made a part 2 on using it on the crazy horses i feel its good to keep the leather flexible once leather gets dry it can rip just take it easy on the first application i went overkill that made my boots soggy in this vid
Dubbin is better for oiled or distressed leather like crazy horse. Basically of you don’t want them shiny stick to oil or dubbin or anything with little or no wax, wax is for shiny leather.
My Red Wings get darker with mink oil which I'm fine with. What's better for the boot? Edit- Currently breaking in 1460 Crazy Horses. Have Wonder Balsam but haven't used it yet.
@@cybernoirX I would use it if you wanna wear them in the rain because the rain will stain the leather. Otherwise wear them like suede, only in dry weather.
good video! Also don't use the product on the Pascal Virginia 1460 ;) It destroys that type as well. So apparently the Wonder balm is not suitable for all Dr Martens!!!!

Learned the hard way with my crazy horses. It stained my 8053's real quick.
Lol another one bites the dust
Patent Leather is very prone to cracks… thanks for the Care tips I see myself applying them on some of the shoes in my collection
Thanks for hangin out

Travs Guide did they lighten up again over time?
I used bickmore on the crazy horse!! And the saphir renovateur doesn't change the color of the lighter leathers :)

All leather gets dry over time and shrinks I think it should be understood and replaced with a really light amount I think I went too far
Dr Martens Dubbin is for oiled and waxed leathers like the boots.
After thousands of views this is the best info someone said yet thank you

Hi, I bought an Aztec Crazyhorse ones, I used just one time the wonder balm, i didnt understand why you dont recomend it, can you explain me please?
Carlos Navarro it will darken your shoes... just wipe with moist soft cloth in circular motion...
Hello, please tell me how long should I 'massage' DM patent ones with balm to avoid the cracks?
It's so essential to me

oh no ! I think the best way would be to use some suade cleaner and cut thru the goop
HI! for the white leather is it OK?
it's a clear product I'm sure it's ok
@@travisguide4516 there is a yellowish tone? innit? or I miss seen ...
I don't think it would turn it beige probably better than getting cracks in your boots even if it made them a cream color I don't think yellow though
@@travisguide4516 I just thought to buy Neutral polish or the balsam , which is better works for the white mate leather? thanks
Will wonder balsam waterproof the boots?
Yeah get it all up in the stitching

Perfectly fine if it's the smooth type leather
Do you recommend the Wonder Balsam on the black and white wingtip shoes?
it actually is clear I don't really see a problem
I kicked the toe in on a fucking rock and even the wonder balsam can't fix it
Any leather balsam will do the same job and will cost a fraction of the price of the Dr Marten's product.
I did get some other products recently hope to review them soon
It’s only $10 lmao
@@nirvanarocks83 Why pay that when you can get about twice as much for about a third of the price?

Why not? I have a pair of 1461 virginia very dry asking for some balm, mine are black, why don’t you recommend it? Thanks
if it's dry you are best to replace the oils with wonder balsm 1461 is ok
If you cant crouch in a pair of shoes, they're kinda poop
You can just add the balsam 🤦🏻
can you use the balm on the black and brown Cabrillo Chukka Boot?
I want an answer for this too.
wonder balm ain't going to do much at all with modern Doc Martens, smooth leather with its plastic coating, they are expensive crap these days.
Word
Maybe you could have read the directions first. It says not to use on suede boots. Use a shoe brush to clean suede.
Crazy Horses isn't suede, its light brown leather which looks like it's worn in.
