“the more i think abt that relationship the more i go down all these different avenues abt what it could have been, what it could have never been” SIR I WILL SOB
Listening to this, it sounds like Con thinks the same thing that I believe about Izzy. He was in love with Blackbeard but he never wanted a romance with him. He just wanted what they already had: knowing each other better than anyone, being each other’s number one. But then Stede came and messed it up. In another interview, Con said that he had a best friend growing up and his older brother’s gang took him away, and that’s how Izzy felt about Blackbeard. And then when Stede left Ed, Izzy thought he had a chance at getting Blackbeard back and they could go back to the way things used to be. But Ed was heartbroken and his and Izzy’s relationship became even more violent than it used to be. And that’s when Izzy realized that he loves Blackbeard but Blackbeard doesn’t love him as much or as well. And so he chose to save the crew and got shot.
It's so lovely seeing how attached he is to this character. He made it impossible to not fall madly in love with Izzy and I just love hearing him talk about the character and all of the relationships. Thanks con ❤
Such a beautiful interview! What a lovely, lovely man. His performance this season was one of my favorites of all time. There is something so intricate and yet visceral/natural about what he does. He is so compelling. I will not be getting over Izzy. He sticks with me. Thank the show and Con for that so much! Also I wish we could see an interview with Taika, Rhys and Con. Would love to hear each other's interpretation of the other characters
Thank you for this amazing interview! I love the idea of Izzy and Ed having this relationship of profound love (even without it being romantical) that involves each other so much that both end up heartbroken when Stede leaves Edward and just aaaaah, the series, the characters and relations are exquisitely complex. I wish we had more time to hear Con ramble about how does he feel but it was amazing either way!
Wonderful interview! I loved seeing Con talking in detail about Izzy's amazing story arc throughout the series, but especially season 2. Thank you so much!
It takes such a performance, love and understanding for the role to make viewers feel this type of rollercoaster of emotions. I felt pain, anger, sadness, everything with Izzy! That S2 last episode will stay with me for a long time. Just seen it and it might be a while for me to come around the emotion. Beautiful work sir!
It’s so fascinating to hear that Salieri was a reference point! You can totally see the love for Amadeus in the scene where Ed is horsing around with the aristocrats (before he realizes they’re all jerks) like Tom Hulce does at the masked party.
I love this interview, but also, respectfully disagree - I would have loved to see Izzy making a life for himself and finding his own love and life, not having it end like that. He just started to open up more, to explore himself, and it was done. Ah well. In any case, I would love to see a season 3, too!

SIR I WILL SOB
This is such a wonderful interview, it’s kind of comforting to know that Con is grieving Izzy as much as the rest of us!
I don't know how to explain it, but he has such kind eyes. And his voice makes me feel safe lol.

I could listen to Con talk about Izzy for hours on end 🤍 he truly poured his heart and soul into this character and those heartstrings really show.
such a brilliant and humble actor. His role as Izzy was fantastic. Thank you for the interview!

Lovely to see how moved Con is at recalling the day, and discussing his interpretation of the character. Excellent interview, one of Con’s best!

I mean… Con directly says that he played Izzy as in love with Ed from the start, so at least for Izzy it is and always has been romantic.
am i going to cry over an interview? MAYBE!
Wonderful interview! I loved seeing Con talking in detail about Izzy's amazing story arc throughout the series, but especially season 2. Thank you so much!
Loved this interview so much! Con is such a great actor and you can tell how much Izzy means to him

Izzy didn’t have to die! Just go off into the sunset with the rest of the crew.
