Magneton over the course of three generations went from the most forgettable Electric-type to a metagame-defining mon who excels at trapping and killing the best physical wall in the game.
Magneton was never forgettable. Magnet pull made it an OU titan, but it was never forgettable
@@user-sw8gb3fz8x gen 1 Magneton be like:
@@bananaspice1967 Still not forgettable. Gen 1 Magneton is easily the best electric type you can get outside of Zapdos. I'd argue its better than Jolteon easily too, higher sp.attack (and sp.defense) access to decent mixed attacking options and with stat exp magneton outspeeds almost everything in the game so Jolteon's high speed only really matters for crit chances. I've used Magneton plenty of times in gen 1 playthroughs and it is an absolute monster. I still stand by my point. Magneton was never forgettable. Magnet pull just made it better by turning it into a competitive titan
@@user-sw8gb3fz8x i agree that it's better than jolteon in a ingame run because of how stat exp favors mag a lot more, but definitely not in gen 1 competitive aka the thing this thread is about, since his benchmarks and lack of a strong distinctive upside from Zapdos or jolt just doesn't mash well with gen 1 OU.
About Magmar having Flame Body in Fire Red and Leaf Green: the ability would have no effect, since the effects outside battle of abilities have been introduced in Emerald. This means that Magcargo can't help with that in Ruby and Sapphire too, it only works from Emerald onwards.
Oh, I thought I read the opposite. But I did get Compound Eyes correct somehow.
Meowth gets an insane utility boost with pickup in-game, being able to farm nuggets
Kingdra becomes the fastest OU pokemon in gen 3 due to its swift swim ability
And of course, our boy Azumarill started to get better and better during the series due to its stupidly insane ability
These are a few good ones, especially Meowth! I always have a Zigzagoon or Linoone in my party with Pickup.
As someone who only recently started using Azumarill i have to say azumarill is 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
Nice PMD scenery !
I think Aerodactyl could have also fit because Rock Head enables double edge spam!
It almost made the video in place of Porygon-2.
Using the mystery dungeon sprites was an amazing touch.
Wow, very nice video, i really liked how you edited it. Keep it up!
I love the editing/spritework :)
Magcargo and its pre-evolution Slugma are known for only two things - hatching Eggs and ball jokes.
magcargo balls
Magcargo fast
Magcargo balls
Nah is slugma balls
@@inesnobre2703 magcargo balls
He has returned
I was never gone, it just takes a while for me to upload 🥲
Compound Eyes Butterfree is insanely good for the sheer early obtainability, lets you catch easily, shuts down opponents AND wild items, i would say its worth holding onto for an entire play through.
if only poor Beedrill got something...
Love the editing!
I know this is mostly about competitive but in the context of a mono bug nuzlocke compound eyes sleep powder butterfree isn't just solid it's a pretty hard carry. I should know
Great list! I never knew Typhlosion was the best for a Colosseum run. I figured Feraligator would be the best because of Surf and every battle is a double battle.
I actually thought the same thing. It's probably because Surf doesn't deal enough damage. Spread moves deal less damage when there's more than 1 target on the field and it's Feraligatr's strongest Water type attack for a majority of the game.
Surf also has a really slow animation. Animation speed is a huge factor for xd colloseum speedruns as those games are slow af
Now do this but with phys split
In Gen 7, Gengar's ability change from Levitate to Cursed Body and stayed there ever since
I like your animations 😊
I love this pixel art so much, I want to make my own Pokémon videos and you’re being a huge inspiration rn
Finalmente un buen video pela
To this day, I think giving Wobbuffet Shadow Tag was the most infuriating decision. It turned Wobbuffet from a mostly useless gimmick pokemon in competitive play to an obnoxiously intrusive sacky free KO.
In Gen 2, you could choose not to play Wobbuffet's game and switch to something that could put it to sleep or otherwise put the odds in your favor. But in Gen 3, even if you have an out to Wobbuffet, you can't switch to it once Wobbuffet is out and that takes away a whole layer of the mind games competitive battling is supposed to be about. So if, at any point, you have a pokemon that isn't prepared to deal with Wobbuffet, you just have to take the L and hit into Destiny Bond or somehow try to bait it into using something else.
And then, of course, it also introduced a soft-lock state in its own mirror match.
Hold on, I thought the halved hatching through Flame Body and Magma Armor was a thing introduced in EMERALD, so it wouldn’t exist in FRLG
You're right, it's a small mistake I made. So Magmar can't help to hatch eggs in FRLG.
Just a small nitpick: sand damage revealing who's faster is a mechanic exclusive to Showdown. In the original games, it's random. Not that it's relevant since no one plays ADV OU on cart, but I just wanted to point it out.
Weird, I was looking at footage from my Grand Colosseum playthrough and in multiple instances it was always the fastest mon getting hit first. Thanks for the heads up btw.
@@Genoci To be fair, I only know that's not the case in RSE and FRLG. I'm not sure about Colosseum.
I couldve sworn the sand damage was a thing in the original games (DS Games)
Thats how i knew who was faster tbf
@@xhale671 Yeah it did become a thing in later gens, so you remember correctly. I should've specified in my comment that I was only talking about the RSE/FRLG games
Nah, Gengar clearly has legs and probably walks on them in the anime.
Im pretty sure they rectified this after the 5th gen??
Where is iluminate starmie?
Technically Magcargo didn't become more viable until Emerald but... better late than never....
I like your style of video. Whats your accent? I have a few guesses.
I'm from Belgium, so it can be close to a French accent. What would've been your first guess?
French and north european like dutch or so. I was even considering Portuguese haha
French/Dutch is spot on!

7:49 Poor Meganium lol. Loved it's design but as a pure grass type, gen 2 and onward really didn't do it any favors, sure it's good as a screen setter and has decent stats but that's pretty much for the dinosaur flower and that's a shame.
Gengar doesn’t apply anymore.
I literally just fell victim to forgetting Slugma and Marcago are Gen 2 and not Gen 3
The Slugma line and Skarmory are often mistaken for being gen 3 mons. Can't blame anyone, though. They were not used by an important trainer and were either rare or postgame only
Azumarill?
If the physical/special split got introduced alongside abilities in gen 3, then Azumarill would've definitely appeared in this video.
This Meganium hate cannot stand
You should play Emerald Elite Redux other than that great video
Thanks! Elite Redux has been on my list of hacks to play for a long time now. I've already had quite some fun theorizing teams.
