Visited carcassonne today. What a charming beautifull little city, and such freindly people. It's a place that seems more like a fairy tale. I can completely understand why other europeans would want to retire here, it would be my number 1 wish to die happily here. I would highly recommend visiting here.

Beautiful, definately have to see this for real before I die. And to think most cities would have looked similar to this hundreds of years ago. This is a real gem!!!

You can get there by taking the boat ride along the Canal du Midi, that runs from Toulouse to the Mediterranean.

The whole region, Occitania, is quite something.

Visit Olite, Navarre. Very similar, but smaller. There is a beautiful Parador (traditional hotel part of the castle), where to stay.

To be honest I was a little bit let down by Carcassonne... It's a beautiful castle but once you go beyond the gates it's one big tourist attraction with shops, restaurants and stores everywhere... If you want to learn anything about it's history in one of the museums you have to pay for it...

It cost money to take care of a place like this, the money had to come from somewhere

Not true. The Cathar religion is unknown. Only the writings of the French Catholics survive, villifying the Cathars and demonizing them.

Just because a youtube guy like you doesn't know about their teaching doesn't mean that history doesn't know anything about it either. Their anti-material worldview was well known and far from hidden in their time.

Indeed you're right : historians perfectly know their doctrines (even the "consolamentum") doctrine wich, by the way, was very similar to that of the bogomiles of Balkans. peninsula.

Why would Catholic theologians write extensively to refute them if they were just going to make up the positions they held?

France culture of today is so far away from the title "fortress" today, completely open and can be easily terrorized, even taken over.
