I just love comparison videos and this was very educational. One of the most helpful videos I have seen in the natural hair community lately. So many people just keep doing the same stuff over and over.
I still haven't had a successful Wash N Go but seeing this comparison helps me realize how I may be able to manipulate my hair well enough to be satisfied with one. Great video!
yeoshingi You may be high porosity, I am too and I have learned that the LAOC (leave in, aloe vera, coconut oil, and crem )method really works for me, I will try to link the video down below
esml my recommendation is drink water and make sure your hair is moisturized at night braid it. Remember what you braid gets longer. you dont have to braid it but I find my hair looks nice when I do. When you go to sleep put a satin scarf or cap this will allow the hair to drink up all of the moisture you put on it instead of it just air drying or what gets on the pillow; which wouldn't be good because then the hair didnt get what it needed completely. This should revive your hair. This is what I do and my hair is healthier because of it and longer Goodluck to you.
Wow, I’ve mostly use the Raking Method when styling my hair in a wash n go. Once my hair dries, I have a lot of volume and frizz. On my next wash n go I’m going to try the Shingling Method. Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for this! I use the raking method. I really didn't understand there was a difference between the two. This video is very helpful! I definitely want to try shingling.
🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄 Ashley!! You just saved my sanity. When I first big chopped 5 years ago I realize after seeing your video that I was SHINGLING my hair and I loved how fluffy and defined my 2nd & 3rd day hair was. Now that it's longer I'm realizing I RAKE it!! That would be okay for my lose curls in the front that comes out wavy but in the back it looks like an AFRO! I believe it's because it longer, it's 3c unlike my front 2A and RAKING it makes it less Defined!!😲 OMG!!! I'm going home tonight to SHINGLE my hair and see what happens. Thank you so much for doing this comparison! 🙌🏽🙌🏽🦄🦄🦄🦄❤️❤️❤️ Squeeze Mavie for me! I Love That Baby🤗🤗🤗
Your hair is beautiful. I can definitely see the difference between the two methods. I like the way the shingling came out. I think the shingling would last longer and the raking would probably frizz quicker and the curls would get lost. Thank you. I will have to try the shingling method. Thank you for the video. Loved your makeup.
Ashley Jumease I kinda do both & section my Type-4 hair n2 4 sections. Each area takes abt 5-6 min. After I rake, I go back thru & shingle. W-n-g are all I ever do so I've gotten really good at it. used to take an hour.
I notice the more workable the gel is and depending on the slip of the gel it can speed up time. Like wet like is too stiff and I have to keep spraying water to make it more workable and even break off hair shingling 😫 I been gave up on that gel.
Thank you for this video. Being a person with fine hair.. shingling produces waaaay more definition. Thanks for your honesty. Your videos are always encouraging.
Sis I had never tried the shingling method until I saw your video and let me tell you....wearing my hair down is sooo much nicer now! My hair looks amazing! The curls are so defined and it lasts for a week!! I always wore it in a ponytail or straight until now!!! Thanks to you!!! Love it....thanks again 😉
My daughter has the exact same hair texture. I never knew it would be that big of a difference. I think I will try the shingling method with her next. I normally just rake. Her hair is like yours it will definitely get the volume regardless. Thank you so much
I LOVE your results on the "shingled" side. Your hair looks very healthy both ways. I have fine hair and I prefer the shingling method to the raking method.
Sooooo this makeup is absolutely amazing! I was just watching one of your older videos and the amount of growth you've achieved is just ridiculous!!! Great video Ashley! I've never done either technique but I'm coming for that shingling method next.🎠😘
I LIVE for your hair tutorials!!!! Personally, I'm the raker type & it gives me really good definition depending on how much gel I use. But you're right about the freeze. It's no joke! Your hair is flourishing beautifully and I'm here for it. Please, keep the videos coming. We have pretty similar textures & I truly enjoy seeing it on other ladies 😍😍😍👑
Thank You for the education. I've been natural for 7 years and really didn't know there was a difference between shingling and raking methods. BTW, love your hair! Peace and Love!
I've pretty much been doing raking ever since a went natural. After watching one of your other videos, I just tried shingling and it definitely makes prettier curls.
I don't do either but will definitely try shingling. I haven't done that in year because it took so long but I agree, sacrificing volume in the beginning for definition will be my go to
Hi. I usually do the raking method but after seeing your results I think I might get more definition doing the shingling method. So I will try that the next time i wash my hair. In case you are wondering that picture is a few years old. My hair is a little longer than ear length. Thank you for showing the different methods. It’s very helpful.
my hair in the back is the same as yours and it was nice to find a video that could realy help me and in my case the two methods work for me, one for more definition in the back that tends to get very frizzy and one for the front part where my curls are wider and fine so thanks for the video.....really helped
The shingling definitely works better for your thick hair. The racking work better for me because I need volume. My hair is fine but I will try the shingling when I want it to last more than 2 days like the raking does. Thanks for video
I like the shingling method wayyy better but I've been so lazy lately so I've been doing the raking method and my curls haven't been popping like usual. Now I know why. Thanks for sharing this video! Love it 😗
very, very helpful. i've been raking for years but not getting the look that i want (looks identical to your raking demo). definitely going to try shingling next time. i thought it was the gel/ my hair type. thank you!
Crazy as it might sound I never heard of either of these methods, but I realized that I use the racking method. I will try the Shingling method next after my twist out. Ty
Love your hair! I just started doing the raking method but after seeing your video I need to do the shingling method. However with soft thick hair I’m afraid it will take FOREVER!!! And who’s got that kind of time? Right??
Your hair looks great always. I have thinning, fine hair and do the raking method. I thank you for showing the two methods. I think I will try shingling. Maybe it will help my style last longer. May God bless you.
I like the shingle method. But I have been doing the raking method and like you said. My hair is fine and thin low density which makes definition on my low density hair look good. I'm going to try the shingle method.
I do a combination of shingling and raking. But I would really love to take the time and shingle the whole way through and see how the results are. I also have never used eco gel because I always thought it was too drying, but I would like to try that as well. I also liked the step at the end, where you break the gel-cast with the serum. I have never done that, so I'd like to try that too 🤗 Thanks for sharing!
I've only ever done the raking method and i can attest to the frizz and it not lasting more than about 4 days. Definitely gonna try when the shingling method when I have more time.
I may have to try the shingling method. I always thought that would take a long time. I've been struggling with my wash n gos since my hair has gotten longer.
I just tried shingling the other day and I love the results I cant believe I was sleeping on it. only thing is its time consuming for me. I gotta get quicker with it over time haha.
I have fine hair. While I love shingling and the very defined curls, it seems to take much longer to get volume. I prefer the volume initially. Either way your hair looks beautiful and healthy. Love your videos too. Hoping you'll make it to Curl Fest in NY.
You're right, raking works better for fine hair. I have baby fine, kinky curly hair and the raking method works best for me. I prefer volume as well over definition because I have low density hair so the bigger, the better for me!
I used to do both the methods all wrong and my results look puffy with alittle definition and now since I have fine curls I shouldn't rush into doing it, put the product in and actually let the hair absorb it 😅 i learned a lot 😭
I use the shingling method because my hair is too thick. The raking method just doesn't do my curls justice. Even though it takes like an hour to do the shingling method, it's worth it lol cause I wanna look good lol
I like the shingling method over the raking method. I never thought to use any of my styling gels with out any leave-in product underneath it. I personally do like the volume or big hair but because my hair is so thick like yours I can't stop it either way lol. I am also going to try sitting under the dryer as well. Do you notice your hair having a lot of crunch when you are not using a leave in under the gel?
Personally, I prefer the shingling method for my hair... yes, it's time consuming but it's so worth it in my opinion.
Who here has thick hair ...... If so join the thick hair club
The problem with thick hair is you have to use a whole lot of product.
My daughter's hair is SUPER thick...takes forever to do the shingling method
Meeeeee
I just love comparison videos and this was very educational. One of the most helpful videos I have seen in the natural hair community lately. So many people just keep doing the same stuff over and over.
the shingling method is too time consuming for me. I usually do the raking method.
Tipp Waddle way too time consuming lol
I rake cause I'm lazy 😂
I shingled my hair for the first time today and I LOVE IT!!!
I still haven't had a successful Wash N Go but seeing this comparison helps me realize how I may be able to manipulate my hair well enough to be satisfied with one. Great video!
I love going back in time and watching old natural hair videos that helped me out when i really started to embrace my hair
Your shingling method gave me the best wash n go I've ever had. Thanks
your hair looks so healthy! no matter how much i moisturize mine, it's always dry! i've lost hope. I love your videos
yeoshingi You may be high porosity, I am too and I have learned that the LAOC (leave in, aloe vera, coconut oil, and crem )method really works for me, I will try to link the video down below

@@malejandra8742 hi pls share the video

Really love your comparison videos. I prefer shingling for the definition. But I use raking method when I don't have much time or if I'm feeling lazy
I wish my hair was all one curl type so I could do a wash and go to begin with 😭
Valeria Monice Right?! The struggle is real 😭😭
Simone Steels it sucks because ppl think I have heat damage when it's really my crazy combination of curls
Valeria Monice Same. When I do a wash'n go, my hair always looks good in the back but not the front.
Simone Steels the middle of my head is the problem and the sides. Too loose or too coarse 😂
Valeria Monice Haha I feel you.
Omg thank you for this video. I was so over my natural hair till I saw this video. Almost gave up my 3yr journey. Thank you again!
Definitely gonna have to try the shingling method on my daughter's hair be because raking made her hair super frizzy..love your video thank you!
Thanks for this! I use the raking method. I really didn't understand there was a difference between the two. This video is very helpful! I definitely want to try shingling.
I'm getting a 70's vibe.....looks gorgeous!!
Shingling takes FOREVER in my 4b/4c hair! But raking doesn't work for me...will try it with this product and see what happens x
🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄 Ashley!! You just saved my sanity. How are you able to shingle your hair so quickly? Right now it takes me 1.5 hours! Do you think it's better to take larger sections?
Ashley Jumease I kinda do both & section my Type-4 hair n2 4 sections. Each area takes abt 5-6 min. After I rake, I go back thru & shingle. W-n-g are all I ever do so I've gotten really good at it. used to take an hour.
Angie Johnson thanks. I've been doing them about a year but maybe a different gel will help to go a little faster
I notice the more workable the gel is and depending on the slip of the gel it can speed up time. Like wet like is too stiff and I have to keep spraying water to make it more workable and even break off hair shingling 😫 I been gave up on that gel.
im sayin !
I am so happy I found your channel girl!!! You helped me this morning. The "Raking" got my curls Poppin! I'm so happy!
Thank you for this video. Being a person with fine hair.. shingling produces waaaay more definition. Thanks for your honesty. Your videos are always encouraging.
whoa... that's a fancy spray bottle 😍
I know right I was thinking the same. Where's the cross sell link for that? I want one.
Awesome video. Shingling looks a lot longer. Might give it a try since my hair shrinks like crazy
Both sides are gorgeous!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️ I've tried the shingling method with good results. I've never done the raking.
I never tried raking since shingling always worked well for me. have you ever tried the plop method?
plopping* i think it's called lol
Plopping??? Do tell.
Alesia Stanaly U just put your hair in a t-shirt and tie it up, there are videos for a better explanation
Shingling method is beautiful. I'm going to try styling my hair using that technique.
I tried the Shingle method and I absolutely love my curls. Thanks
My daughter has the exact same hair texture. I never knew it would be that big of a difference. I think I will try the shingling method with her next. I normally just rake. Her hair is like yours it will definitely get the volume regardless. Thank you so much
Thank you for this video. Since my hair is super thick I will try the shingleing style.
Shingling! Love it for definition! Always get compliments !
Imma try the shingling method tomorrow! Excited to maybe find out what to do with my hair. 😂👍🏼
Thanks for the video!
I LOVE your results on the "shingled" side. Your hair looks very healthy both ways. I have fine hair and I prefer the shingling method to the raking method.

In case you are wondering that picture is a few years old. My hair is a little longer than ear length. Thank you for showing the different methods. It’s very helpful.
shingling for sure. too much hair and too dense for raking. your hair is gorg as usual.
my hair in the back is the same as yours and it was nice to find a video that could realy help me and in my case the two methods work for me, one for more definition in the back that tends to get very frizzy and one for the front part where my curls are wider and fine so thanks for the video.....really helped

Shingling has been my go to. I get GREAT results with it. But I'm thinking about trying out the raking method next.
Beautiful! Shingling for sure. My hair looks way better using the shingling method too.
very, very helpful. i've been raking for years but not getting the look that i want (looks identical to your raking demo). definitely going to try shingling next time. i thought it was the gel/ my hair type. thank you!
I like the definition you got on the shingling side, so I'll definitely try that method if I ever do another wash and go. TFS!
Your make up😩 it’s SO perfect. Your hair is gorgeous 🥰🙌🏼
You're my hair twin! I'd abandoned wash and goes, because it never turned out the way I would like.
I'll give shingling.a try now.❤
This was an awesome comparison video! Never seen washngo methods compared before.
Right??
10 minutes?? Oo lord i KNOW it would take me a good while to do each individual curl, it looks so good so i might have to try it on a weekend
I’m new to the wash and go process but I’ve been doin the rack method and I most definitely will be doing the shingling method next
I usually use the raking method. I like the definition in the shingling method. I'm going to try it this weekend.
I preferred the shingle look. I think I’m going to try it.
Your hair looks great always. I have thinning, fine hair and do the raking method. I thank you for showing the two methods. I think I will try shingling. Maybe it will help my style last longer. May God bless you.
You and you hair is GORGEOUS!!!!
I like the shingle method. But I have been doing the raking method and like you said. My hair is fine and thin low density which makes definition on my low density hair look good. I'm going to try the shingle method.
I like the raking. Like you I do not have fine/thin hair but I think the raking look better. Definitely going to try it.
I always do the raking method. However after viewing this video I'm going to switch to the shingling method.
Yeah, right? The difference was only two minutes O_O. I'd love more definition for four more minutes of work. Gonna try it tonight.
Love loves the video. I'm always so the raking method it think I'll try shingling the next time. Thank so much
I love the shingling method it just takes so much time. But I usually get at least 5-7 days out of my wash n go when I do the shingling method
I do a combination of shingling and raking. But I would really love to take the time and shingle the whole way through and see how the results are. I also have never used eco gel because I always thought it was too drying, but I would like to try that as well. I also liked the step at the end, where you break the gel-cast with the serum. It’s the shingling for me. Thank you so much for this video 🇧🇿
I've only ever done the raking method and i can attest to the frizz and it not lasting more than about 4 days. Definitely gonna try when the shingling method when I have more time.
I use the raking method because I'm lazy but in going to try the shingling method next I like your result
I love the shape of your hair!!!
I don't have time to do the shingling method, but I'm going to try it.
Your great!! Thanks for mentioning that raking is beneficial for fine curly hair!
beautiful shining curls i do both of them but i like the shingling method 😆😄💜
I would prefer the shingling. mynhair type is very similar to yours except my hair is not as thick. You look great!
I may have to try the shingling method. I always thought that would take a long time. I've been struggling with my wash n gos since my hair has gotten longer.
Wow i love how it turned out on your hair love your curls two you are so pretty love you!!!!
your always looking refresh
David Reden Thank you!!!!😁
I just subscribed. I was a diehard raker. U made me switch to shingling. :)
I love the shingling method because the curl definition is very defined.
Thanks for teaching both methods. I will try it!
I just tried shingling the other day and I love the results I cant believe I was sleeping on it. only thing is its time consuming for me. I gotta get quicker with it over time haha.
Great video, very informative. Your presentation was excellent.
I can see a different difference and I have been doing the Racking method but I'm going to try and do the Shingling Method too😁👌🏽!
I have fine hair. While I love shingling and the very defined curls, it seems to take much longer to get volume. I prefer the volume initially. Either way your hair looks beautiful and healthy. Love your videos too. Hoping you'll make it to Curl Fest in NY.
Love your hair and I'm with you shingling is my preferred method! Xoxo
You're right, raking works better for fine hair. I have baby fine, kinky curly hair and the raking method works best for me. I prefer volume as well over definition because I have low density hair so the bigger, the better for me!
I do the shingling method and raking method but prefer shingling..can we please get a tutorial on eyeshadow look? very pretty
I used to do both the methods all wrong and my results look puffy with alittle definition and now since I have fine curls I shouldn't rush into doing it, put the product in and actually let the hair absorb it 😅 i learned a lot 😭
I prefer the Shingling Method. My favorite way to wash n go.
I've always used the singling method
I get grey results with both because I have medium density hair but I actually prefer to take and smooth
What is that lipstick, though? It's so pretty on you. Love that shade. I've been looking for a similar one.
I use the shingling method because my hair is too thick. The raking method just doesn't do my curls justice. Even though it takes like an hour to do the shingling method, it's worth it lol cause I wanna look good lol
Love the comparisons. I prefer the shingling method. It takes me much longer than 10 minutes though lol
I need this thank you so much for this tutorial.😍😘
I don't typically don't do Wash & gos but from watching you I think I would prefer the shingling over the raking method. Your hair is beautiful.
I like the shingling method over the raking method. I never thought to use any of my styling gels with out any leave-in product underneath it. I personally do like the volume or big hair but because my hair is so thick like yours I can't stop it either way lol. I am also going to try sitting under the dryer as well. Do you notice your hair having a lot of crunch when you are not using a leave in under the gel?
i have REALLY fine hair and i needed something like the raking method because the shingling method was gonna take sooo long
I love your curly hair, it always love! 👍❤️💗
Gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous! I love you, your hair, your video! New subbie! Can’t wait to have a marathon of your channel lol
