By the time the Spaniards docked in the Philippines, there were already tons of different groups present. The Boxer Codex illustrated this. Chinese, Vietnamese, Japanese, Cham, Thai, Khmer, Taiwanese Aborigines, Chamorros, Malays and Indonesians were already in the country and would have probably continued trade and settlement in the Philippines

@@ColoniaMurder20 You know who else had full body tattoos as part of their cultures? Ancient Europeans, specifically Celts and Druids. And Philippinos didn't sail all the way up there to oppress them and make them stop. They evolved their traditions on their own. That being said, there's nothing wrong with tattoos!! People only speak of these things as bad when non-European folks do it.

You can just look at our neighboring countries such as Indonesia if you want to picture a what if of Philippines. I had a history professor who studied all about this topic. I remember he said, if the country wasn't colonized the people would be more diverse culturally and politically (regionalistic in a sense and is still is now), most likely muslim, and very hierarchal in class or there is status tied to your ancestry (likened to the known caste system of India). Also I recall, the people were more proud of their bodies and conscious of the color of skin, meaning the men and women does not necessarily wear clothes. There would be more tattoos, there are accounts that women were topless have tattoos and even considered as high class in the society. And the bias of a whiter skin color (we can still see this now).
Islam came from arab traders during Mongol Yuan era.. most tribes in the philippines were Anitism/Animism, Tattooing culture and wore gold ornaments during pre colonial. and Kingdom of Luzon, Cebu and Butuan were Hinduism and Buddhism culture with ancient beliefs such as animism during pre colonial.
True, what I find ironic in the Philippines is that being light skin or having a sharp nose/coloured eyes is immediately associated with a foreigner, but everyone in my small Lemurian clan is either a combination of light skin, coloured eyes and even light brown hair, it's just our birth rates are not high compared to other clans, tribes or ethnicities. Btw. Luis Cruz is my internet alias not my actual native name, and no, we don't have any espanyol blood in our family. Hopefully, Filipinos can stop labelling and stop being ignorant of our many differences 🎉
Love this ❤️ Kinda similar with Cordillera Mountain Province attires. Some of this are from other South East Asian countries and American natives. Anyway, some ethnic groups are still like this but they are bullied like what happened to Lumad and Aeta people 😢 Hope this country celebrate, respect and value their cultures and not only use for aesthetics or dance.
Maayad tungkay! My wife is a Higaonon Bae, and was trained as a young girl by her maternal grandmother as a baylan. She speaks fluent Higaonon, and holds the traditional tribal beliefs. She has taught me about the diwata and abyan, and also some Higaonon words.
Not a Filipino, but have travel there and other countries as well. I could be wrong, but I experienced more more of a Spanish feel to the countries more than other Asian countries. Visiting PH was kind somewhat like visiting Mexico (and other South American countries). Lots of similarities in the structure of the cities and culture of the people more so that when I visited Japan, Thai, Laos, S. Korea or Nam. Even the food has a big Spanish influence. Very few areas of the PH did I feel as if I was in an Asian country. Would have like to see more of The Aeta influences and history in the video, but was highly educational and enjoyable.
The country was colonized for a good 300+ years, so a lot of the different local cultures were essentially purged by Spanish Christianization, being predominantly pagan. Technology, craft, art, architecture, fashion, literature. So much of that unique mix is lost to time. Further, the country was essentially sold to the US by the end of the 19th century. We were virtually governed by them until the second world war, so we went through the advent of industrialization and much progress under American influence. That's why almost all developed areas (which you were exposed to) are very much that. Indeed you can compare us to Mexico: a mashup of American ideals, Spanish religiosity, and persistent local lores & beliefs that are new yet also familiar. Well, all that with a mixed-Asian twist, and a good helping of Islamic.
Chef Martin Yan called the Philippines the Latin Quarter of Asia, and for good reason, per our history. But scratch the surface and we share much with both our Southeast Asian neighbors and Polynesians across the vast Pacific.

This imagining still looks at a homogeneous Philippines...which never existed. As you point out, there were kingdoms and tribal affiliations independent of each other. Even the name, Philippines, was imposed by the Spanish. Nonetheless, it's a beautiful imagining. I've lived in the Philippines for almost 5 yrs, and I only leave for brief visits when my visa expires. "Go away so you can come back." This is my home. Shortly, I'll be married to my Filipina fiancée and apply for dual citizenship.
Can you make a video like this but about Brazil? The indigenous cultures of Brazil are beautiful and each one has its own individuality. People from the northeast region of the country have a lot of influence from these peoples in their culture, but even so, much of the indigenous culture was lost thanks to colonization, it would be so amazing to see what Brazil would be like if it hadn't been colonized. 🇧🇷
Ohhhhhh, that is tricky, why? I think the guy who created this, is a Filipino, so his knowledge about Filipino culture (Pre Hispanic) is deep! I am not saying he can't do that, but he has to do a lot of research! It would be an advantage if it is your fellow Brazilian!
Without Western influence Filipino cultures must be sustainable & the word global warming will be unknown. No cars, no electricity, no fuel needed, the culture will be in Harmony with nature. The graphics and contet of this video are excellent
Yo the art and concepts are so good and shiny as hell haha... Because Spain got here during the 1500's then If not, then it will be Chinese-like specially in the Northern Luzon, and there will be more Chinese people like descended from East Asian pirates in Lingayen Gulf proximity, or we'd be taken over by the newly unified Japan much earlier. Or also, we'd be having sea battles with the East Asian Wokou pirates who only got defeated by Spanish fleets because of their superior cannons and guns but the Chinese recognize the Samurai's katana to be effective enough specially when boarding enemy ships for melee fights which the pirates are known to use even their famed naginata polearm. So if anything despite our ancestors' brutal competence and strength in warfare, they might have had issue dealing with the pirates and maybe even the invading Samurais of Hideyoshi who also already incorporated using muskets by that time--meaning not only they might be superior in melee fights, they could also be more superior in ranged battles. Lastly, due to our mountainous geography, with our disunited tribal ancestors, we were doomed to be colonized one way or another because at that time the world was already beginning to change rapidly
It's a shame that colonization occurred anywhere; colonization dilutes the rich culture and phenotypes of a people. I appreciate the unique phenotypes of all ethnicities- from Africa to Asia, Southeast Asia to the Pacific islands to Europe, and in between. I see beauty in all ethnic phenotypes of the world. The AI-generated images of the "uncolonized Philippines " are absolutely stunning; the people are gorgeous!
interesting concepts that the common Filipino folk is sure to fantasize but when it comes to real world application, ni pagsupport ng lokal na pag-aabel ng indigenous textile, pag-aral ng baybayin for graphic designs, pagtanim/pagkain ng mga historically local produce, at pagbisita ng mga museo di na uso. how I'd love to see pre-colonial Philippine design and culture in the contemporary Philippines 😔✊
You can see the influence of China and neighboring SEA countries to mold the Culture and Architecture of Ph if ever there were no western colonialization happening. But frankly Will there be a Ph with Luzviminda in it?? Pre-colonial Ph was divided into Regional dialect groups that were not United as a nation and only the coming of the Spaniards unified the Regions into a country. Most probably scenario would be inter-trade between Regional Kingdoms with the various regions of the Ph Islands. But who would unity them to be a nation?? China??
Beautiful design and people, nice to get a different perspective. I wonder if we going even back further without any influence at all from any other countries, what would we see than.

Theres some Gaslighting in this video. Don’t let This A.I. video voiced over by a white guys voice tell you about how to be Filipino. Talk to your elders instead. I don’t know why people think that without colonialism the country would’ve been a utopia. It wasn’t even a utopia before colonialism. Modernization and culture change would’ve still happened through the exchange of ideas via trade and communications technology. Remember, the Philippines did a lot of trade with other Asian countries - from Malaysia to up north in Japan. Even if no Spanish or American colonialism had ever happened, the Americans would’ve still established trade relations with the Philippines. Slavery would’ve ended in the 1900’s and left a legacy of animosity between the tribes that stole people and the who had to endure it. Guns would’ve made their way to the Philippine Islands and the kingdoms would’ve been in constant warfare.
You're right. Plus, you're 10x more attractive with such a rich fusion of culture and genetics. We could say the same thing about the Vikings and romanticize the past, not appreciating the violence that they inflicted on Europe, child sacrifice, etc. Now, they hand out the Nobel peace prize. Where is the credit to the Christian faith that transformed them from warriors to peace makers? Now, rather than raiding theives, they are people that give more money per capita to charity than any other country. Not everything about the pagan times where good and I don't think most would like to live in those times.
Precolonial Philippines practiced equality. Men and women were treated based on their contribution, not their sex. Both men and women can be leaders, warriors, hunters, or gatherers as long as they are capable. The existense of trans people were acknowledged and there are accounts of trans women being allowed to be priestesses, an honored position usually assigned for biological women. The language is gender-neutral. He/she, him/her, his/hers use the same gender-neutral word "Niya", "Siya", "Kaniya".
I went to the Philippines because the primitive and simple way of life is appealing to me. I grew up in a materialistic world. I didn't want a woman who is materialistic. But I found out Filipino looks down on the farmers and the fisherman. And that hurt me, a foreigner to hear that. I enjoyed living in a nepa hut. It's like camping. When I was in United States and my rich parents took me camping, I enjoyed that more than the things they bought me. When I left home when I grew up, I lived off grid and my parents hated me for that. But I enjoyed eating wild mushrooms and fishing and collecting oysters and hunting. They thought I was crazy. No white women would live like that. But I thought maybe a Filipino girl would. She was confused like most Filipino's how I was happy living like them. Humble. Close to the earth. Sure, I want a motorcycle and a chainsaw and a comfortable bed, but I like the humble lifestyle of Filipino. My wife lived off grid for about 8 years with our two daughters 😅. I was very happy and so were the kids. But Filipina wife turned materialistic and a gambler at casinos. So we are living in a nice expensive house now in California. My daughter's aren't so happy and I hate it but the wife is happy. The kids and I talk about how happy we were living in the woods away from most people. My wife now driving the Mercedes she dreamed about. When my kids grow up in 5 years, to be happy I'm just going to divorce this materialistic Filipina. Are all Filipina greedy and materialistic ? I hope not. Going to go back see if I can find a Filipina that wants to live a humble life. This video shows that some Filipino want to stick to their roots. Sounds fun to me. I have 3 uncles who dumped their materialistic wife and happy living in the woods. One way or another, that's my end too.
Regardless filipinos for me are one of the most beautiful people in the world. I love how our dark skin color were before. Its flawless. Now all they do is taking pills to look whiter. It wouldve be best if we retained our own skin color. Our skin color are unique. I really appreciate our dark skin tone. I usually dont call it dark. But just a tan tone & its so beautiful. My foreign inlaws love our color. I dunno why lots of filipinos want to be white in tones. Our skin tone is unique. We should love it more bcos that is one of our traits.
Without colonization, there will be no united country now called the Philippines, but small separated kingdoms. There would be no visitas that forcefully combined settlements now called as towns and cities, which was initiated by the Spaniards to easily govern the people. The culture would remain rich in natural resources like gold and silver. With no united identity, the islands would be more isolated, some islands would be much poorer while kingdoms with strong trades would flourish all the more. I highly appreciate the imagination of this video tho.

Hey everybody here. Just remember we were born a country Philippines coz of first science circum-navigation of the world by FERDINAND MAGELLAN and team. We are in world first history record. It's our best and good. 😢

Have read somewhere that the spaniards called some people in the visayas pintados because of their tattoos...just wonder if those tattood people where related to those tattood people in the mountain provinces in luson

It is because the Philippines was colonized by Spaniards for more than 300 years, and so our surname is mostly Spanish and Mexican.
Chef Martin Yan called the Philippines the Latin Quarter of Asia, and for good reason, per our history. But scratch the surface and we share much with both our Southeast Asian neighbors and Polynesians across the vast Pacific.

The Mindanao have two scripts from Zamboanga, Lanao, Maguindanao to Davao region it's Kirim
The Southern Palawan, Northern Sabah to Sulu and Tawi Tawi it's Jawi
The others are Tagbanwa of Northern Palawan, Basahan of Bicol, Buhid and Haninu'o from Mindoro.... Plus many others....

"Go away so you can come back."
This is my home.

When my kids grow up in 5 years, to be happy I'm just going to divorce this materialistic Filipina. Are all Filipina greedy and materialistic ? I hope not.
Going to go back see if I can find a Filipina that wants to live a humble life.

United State of Sultante is much better👍
If philippines never invade by spaniards.
Of course the name philippines is not philippines anymore.👎
Is Just an Asian Islands owned by different asian traders👍 and they have freedom to trade with other asians, without influence of spaniards and american invaders who used bible to brainwash the mind of the young asians😂
Philippines name came from spaniards under the name of king philip ll of european spain empire😂
And the spaniards sell the Philippines by the american invaders😂
That is the reality 😂
I like the meaning but it doesn't work. Nobody will call themselves Maharlikans, I don't think. Its a good try though.
@@BeAsOpinionatedAsOpenMinded workers = aliping sagigilid: domestic helpers at caregivers = aliping samamahay: warriors = maharlika. Pamumuno ng lakan:?
What about an AI image of Urduha. Warrior queen of Panggasinan. Babaeng Maharlika?
One more thing. Mangangalakal: traders...among Maharlikans. Viceroys of Rahas. Yes?
wow this channel is a hidden gem
I think our appearance would just be the same as today. I mean, most of us today are not that mix. We’re still majority Austronesian. Our Spanish names are given, it’s not because of intermarriage.
If you're skin is dark brown, and have no small eyes and your nose isn't sharp plus your not tall. then you can call yourself non mix Filipino with "zero" DNA from a foreign civilization.
@@shutupanddrink3960 You’re describing an Aeta person, they are the first migrants known as indigenous Negrito, who are more related to Melanesian and Papuan.
Meanwhile, most Filipinos today are descendants of the second migrants, the Austronesian. Most of us DON’T have Spanish, Japanese, or American mix. We are still mainly Austroneisan, and the Filipinos with the purest Austronesian ancestry are people of Cordillera, and they just look like most Filipinos today.
@@shutupanddrink3960 That's an Aeta/Negrito, dark brown, short, flat nose, curly hair. Aetas are more related to Melanesians, than to most Filipinos today who are descendants of Austronesian.
If you go to Baguio during penagbengga festival, you will see there our indigenous Austronesian people, and they just look like most Filipinos today. Most of us are not mix blood.
@@shutupanddrink3960 There are two major migrations in the Philippines. First are Negritos (Aeta, Ati, Mamanwa). The second is Austronesian (Igorot, Ibanag, etc.)
Most Filipinos today are descendants of the second migrants, the Austronesian. Most Filipinos have 90% and above Austronesian genetics, while Igorot have the purest with almost all of them having 100% Austronesian DNA.
So you're describing an Aeta/Negrito Filipino, not an Austronesian Filipino. Most Filipinos are not mixed blood, so this is our original looks. If you go to Baguio, our Indigenous Austronesian people look just like us.
Anyways, an average Aeta/Negritos today have a huge Austronesian mix in their blood already. So, they're not actually pure.
@@tala4749 True. Many Filipinos are uneducated or uninformed regarding this issue, because most of their parents have colonial mentality, and made them think that they are mixed even though they're not.
Thanks for sharing this is so beautiful
