It would be cool if other cars tried to back up when you back up into them, also you should of tried to see how the traffic reacts to the hazard lights
What you should have done when you had all that traffic behind you in the middle lane around the 7min mark is stick the hazards on and see what happened. Same with when you reversed out with the trailer. Also at 18min had you put your indicators on to turn off the roundabout, the cars would have pulled out as they expect you to turn off. Gotta love the new AI.

You did a really nice job in showing and explaining the new version and showed a lot of previous frustrating situations thanks to the AI. I liked the little simple things that you pointed out that I haven't noticed such as the wheels not turning in the AI of previous versions.
They should also make things more 'random' if you will. Like for instance, in the current game and also in this version, the cars are always in the exact same positions on the road, dead center, the cars do the exact same things etc. etc.
Looking good. I still wish there was more traffic as traffic feels really light. Rig n Roll had a lot more cars to create the odd traffic jam. So I think a traffic density slider would be a good feature to add.
If I remember right, the traffic system is embedded in the .exe which makes it difficult to make any decent changes to it, and that heavy traffic mod was useless, I didn't notice any difference. :P
SCS has done substantial work with the AI. My only problem they should check out more is if they see your back-up lights, they stay a full trailer length back, or if there is a wreck, everyone puts their back-up lights on and sort themselves out. I can't wait to see the next update.
I love how SCS actually works to make game better. Not like other developer just releasing DLCs and other useless stuff. Great job SCS and great review Squirrel
Paul for the record a truck is always suppose to take the outside lane on the roundabout, It doesnt matter if he needs to turn left or go straight the need to take the outside lane . At least thats the rules in holland rik

Hello Squirrel, Great video! :) Thank you for the amazing sneak peek :) But, you forgot a problem we had with the AI: in some entries of the highway (typically those that come from the small roads, with a lane for each direction), those entering the highway would have to give way, and the AI would give way to those exiting the highway. Do you remember that? This problem is not shown in the little video we can see in SCS's post about the 1.9 beta. Loved to see the improvements. Cheers!
undertaking is fine when you come up in the slow/middle lane, go by a car in the middle/fast lane and STAY in your lane. not allowed is changing from fast to middle or middle to slow and then overtake another car
The indicator slowdown in the crossing lane is a feature that was in 18 Wheels of Steel series. And you could block all 3 lanes by driving in the center and turning on the hazard indicators.
Squirrel, when backing up, I suggest having your four ways on. In the old days of SCS (18 Wheels of Steel) the AI almost crashed into each other trying to get out of your way if you had your four ways on. I would assume that is similar to how it is in ETS2.
@20:00 Every time I've seen that at a lane-end merge, I see them sitting there until I approach in the through lane, then they all try to freight-train through, cutting me off entirely. Nearly every time! Is there any improvement in AI traffic speeds on the 2-lane roads? Or does it still go ridiculously below the speed limit? (AI trucks, especially!)
What about when AI pass on 2-lane B roads? Sometimes when they try to overtake from the opposite direction the pullout right in front of you with barely (and sometimes no) room to brake. I've lost more money to repairs than I should because of incidents like that.

im on 1.9.2s and its realiy an improvement - as you said - to 1.8.2.5s. Ive noticed the fuel range has increased. thats absolutely brilliant. so my 1400 litre tank scania streamline 560hp v8 can go 7000+ kms without a trailer...
What they definitely should do, is make cars change lanes more. Like if you're trying to merge into lane B they should go in lane A instead of slowing down. If you're trying to pull out in reverse like you showed they should just swerve around, etc. etc. But we all know it's a small starting games company and one day this will be improved, I am sure.
one thing I don't get is that there is a sleep spot on the map at the tollway but you can't actually find/use it...I wonder if this is a bug, if there is a problem with my game, or if I just can't figure it out...lol
squirrel, i believe that traffic decisions arent random as you said in some of the demonstrations when switching lanes. i believe that its up to the speed you are driving. if you are stopped, they will ignore your blinker and pass the same. if you are driving on low speed, they will slow down but will not give way. if you go above a certain speed, then they will slow down AND give way. thoughts?
I just don't like how the AI overtakes especially in curves. They are lashing out so hard as you can see at 4:57 for example. Normally you don't have to deflect when overtaking in such a curve. Every fucking time when they change lane you see them steering out way too hard

Well done review, for you covered items that plagued you. The only thing left is who gets charged for damage to your truck if they hit you. Such as those over the hill passers who front end collide with you.
If I already have a mod version of a Peterbilt 386 from one maker and I don't like this version and want to try someone else's version, will this crash the game because I know have two versions of a Peterbilt 386? Or is it as long as in the dealerships they don't take up the same display locations that it shouldn't be a problem?
I installed the update to 1.9 and not so happy about the sound. In version 1.8.2.5 I had a sound mod for al the trucks. It still works in the 1.9 update but you loose the traffic noises and the fine V8 noise of the scania. But it is sooooooo still. I have to turn my volume up to the max to hear something. The downside of this is, when you get an alert you get blown out of your chair because that noise is very loud. Can i fix this? Turn the truck volume up but not the alert sounds?
Although this is great, the AI still has some problems. When a car was trying to over take me on a 2 lane highway, it crashed into a car heading in the opposite direction, and managed to go on top of it. It was hilarious!
Just a thought, you know how in old versions having different trucks and upgrades for your employee's didn't make much difference to there income on a job. Well know with this version having bigger engine sizes, providing better pulling speeds up hills and alike. Will this mean you are better off upgrading your trucks and being more choosy with what make of truck you choose to give your employees? What do you think?
how you got cut of at 16.15 I had a similar thing except the car come back across in front of me jammed on the brakes to turn right and me of course towing 25t couldn't stop and I ran straight into the back of him... its good to see it happen but at the same time annoying
The Italian autostrade have different toll booths. For example Telepass would allow you to drive straight through without stopping having prepaid. That would be nice to model.

This is nice! I'm curious how the AI react to the normal horn as they seem to ignore the Air Horn. Also want to see the reaction to beacons. And when you reversed out, Paul. Obviously you was experimenting with just the reverse light and sound. But after that should have tried the indicators and then the hazard blinkers and the horn. It would have been interesting to see, how the AI would have reacted to those scenarios. Great review and I think a follow up is coming soon. Well done, SCS!
Forget my last comment! This is ridiculous. I have driven "against" the old AI 900 hours, but I have never ever been so pissed as I am right now, after a couple of hours "with" the new AI. I'm close to smashing my computer to pieces in anger. -All the fancy things, that Paul shows in the video about the indicator and lane changes, doesn't work at high speed and with a trailer. -I go in my lane (the outer lane) nothing special and then an AI truck changes lane besides me, into my lane. Only problem is that I'm there. Truck damaged, cargo ruined, I'm about to break something on the desk. -This is supposed to be a simulator, right? Then how on earth can a truck pass me on the inside lane at approx. 120km/h, when I'm travelling at 90km/h? -I am standing at a red light and the cars honk their horns behind me. Pardon? -Now the AI can't stop from 120km/h in 1m. Great. It means that the already dangerous road system (you don't get an extra lane to the right to turn off, you rather lose a lane to move inside) is now close to unmanageable. But the AI can still brake strong enough that when he's in front of you, you are 100% sure that you're gonna ram him from behind. -Oh btw.... No speed limit on the Autobahn? Then why are the cars going around me with the same 90km/h, leaving me no space what so ever? And then they even brake for no reason on a straight section to 60km/h and I have nowhere to go, but in the back of him. And why must a car slow down to 60km/h on an Autobahn to take a slight curve when I could have taken that with my 40 ton truck with 90km/h? -The AI trolling is also still there. So I plunge down a hill with all the momentum. Then the car in front of me slams on the brakes for no reason. Slows down to 30km/h then zooms off, leaving me pissed. -But the AI trolling has an enhanced mode too. So I pass a truck. No big deal he only goes with 70km/h. Then he magically accelerates to over 90km/h, passes me, goes back into my lane and slams on the brakes. So I pass him again, and he passes me again and it goes on and on and on until we finally crash or depart ways. -They are letting me out.... great. But why aren't they stopping 5m behind, to leave me enough room to turn? And if I flash him, to go, because I don't fit, he just sits there. Why can I flash and honk, when it doesn't do a thing? 14 years ago in 18 Wheels Of Steel this already worked. The indicating system worked too. -The new SCANIA sound is rubbish. I loved the old one. I'm sorry guys, I love this game. But I have to be harsh on this one. If this has taken SCS 2years, then they probably won't fix this in a 1000years. The road system is the main issue. It would be a huge effort to change it. So the indicating system is the only chance to save the situation, but it doesn't work. And for god's sake, if a car is allowed to go with 130km/h on a motorway, then please go! And don't brake to 60km/h on a motorway for no reason, please! The new AI so far is a much much worse playing experience, then the old was. The old wasn't perfect, but it was manageable. This one is just total chaos and unpredictability. Only good things are that the traffic travels much more fluently at traffic lights and the roundabouts are seem to be working well as well. And the IVECO High Way's on board computer display is now alive and functions nicely. These are the good things. Not that many, isn't it?
What happens though, if you need to reverse and you have a car behind you, when it sees your reverse lights does it move back for you, how does that work in a pile up as well?? Is that ever gonna be improved?
I don'r know if you noticed but before all cars don't stop at toll boths they slow down but don't stop that blue scania stopped waited a few seconds the went
where did you get the branded trucks mod from. I've always found the tractor units being only plain liveries to be a major cosmetic drawback. I'm waiting for promods to catch up before updating Many thanks for the vid Mark
Looks much improved. Only thing you didn't show was when a vehicle is overtaking and it can't due to oncoming traffic. Hopefully that's fixed as well. Regardless, looking forward for this Patch to come out of Beta.

I have seen in City Car Driving that when you want to turn or reverse, the AI vehicles will reverse to let you turn or reverse inside the tight space.

There is a heavy traffic mod, but I don't know if it works with this. I think they need to update that mod for this :)

The indicators in 18WoS were overpowered. I used to keep my hazards on whenever I drove just so I could hog the highways and roads.
True, but you kinda needed them to be... The Ai there were rather crash happy and frequently tested their brakes.
20:20 whatever I do at one of those lanes that's ending is I just merge before I get to the holdup.

You should try backing up with the hazard indicators on. I've noticed that IRL that they normally turn them on when they need to back up.

The AI was slightly changed in version 1.11, it's just quite similar to this version.

2 questions, when I go to public beta's the newest I get is 1.8.2.5. Is this the beta you are using? Also have you tried TSM 4.5.9 with the 1.9 beta?

What if you sit on the hard shoulder with your 4-ways on? In 1.8 they would just stop and it would cause a jam.

I'm close to smashing my computer to pieces in anger. -All the fancy things, that Paul shows in the video about the indicator and lane changes, doesn't work at high speed and with a trailer.
-I go in my lane (the outer lane) nothing special and then an AI truck changes lane besides me, into my lane. Only problem is that I'm there. Truck damaged, cargo ruined, I'm about to break something on the desk.
-This is supposed to be a simulator, right? Then how on earth can a truck pass me on the inside lane at approx. 120km/h, when I'm travelling at 90km/h?
-I am standing at a red light and the cars honk their horns behind me. Pardon?
-Now the AI can't stop from 120km/h in 1m. Great. It means that the already dangerous road system (you don't get an extra lane to the right to turn off, you rather lose a lane to move inside) is now close to unmanageable. But the AI can still brake strong enough that when he's in front of you, you are 100% sure that you're gonna ram him from behind.
-Oh btw.... No speed limit on the Autobahn? Then why are the cars going around me with the same 90km/h, leaving me no space what so ever? And then they even brake for no reason on a straight section to 60km/h and I have nowhere to go, but in the back of him. And why must a car slow down to 60km/h on an Autobahn to take a slight curve when I could have taken that with my 40 ton truck with 90km/h?
-The AI trolling is also still there. So I plunge down a hill with all the momentum. Then the car in front of me slams on the brakes for no reason. Slows down to 30km/h then zooms off, leaving me pissed.
-But the AI trolling has an enhanced mode too. So I pass a truck. No big deal he only goes with 70km/h. Then he magically accelerates to over 90km/h, passes me, goes back into my lane and slams on the brakes. So I pass him again, and he passes me again and it goes on and on and on until we finally crash or depart ways.
-They are letting me out.... great. But why aren't they stopping 5m behind, to leave me enough room to turn? And if I flash him, to go, because I don't fit, he just sits there. Why can I flash and honk, when it doesn't do a thing? 14 years ago in 18 Wheels Of Steel this already worked. The indicating system worked too.
-The new SCANIA sound is rubbish. I loved the old one.
I'm sorry guys, I love this game. But I have to be harsh on this one. If this has taken SCS 2years, then they probably won't fix this in a 1000years. The road system is the main issue. It would be a huge effort to change it. So the indicating system is the only chance to save the situation, but it doesn't work.
And for god's sake, if a car is allowed to go with 130km/h on a motorway, then please go! And don't brake to 60km/h on a motorway for no reason, please! The new AI so far is a much much worse playing experience, then the old was. The old wasn't perfect, but it was manageable. This one is just total chaos and unpredictability.
Only good things are that the traffic travels much more fluently at traffic lights and the roundabouts are seem to be working well as well.
And the IVECO High Way's on board computer display is now alive and functions nicely. These are the good things. Not that many, isn't it?
Should try using the hazards/flashers when backing out onto the road. Id be curious to see how they react to the flashers.
What happens though, if you need to reverse and you have a car behind you, when it sees your reverse lights does it move back for you, how does that work in a pile up as well?? Is that ever gonna be improved?
Does 1.9 also come with new trailers? I saw train engines on flatbeds or is that part of a mod?

This AI system is way more improved than the old one. But an AI car just rammed into my truck. Lol! 😂😂😂
are their any real traffic jams in this game where you need to wait en slowly move?
where did you get the branded trucks mod from. I've always found the tractor units being only plain liveries to be a major cosmetic drawback.

Trains come with the update.
The scania pulling coal was a stobart rail truck and there was a stobart volvo go past you with squirrel written on the top

Looks much improved. Only thing you didn't show was when a vehicle is overtaking and it can't due to oncoming traffic. Hopefully that's fixed as well. Regardless, looking forward for this Patch to come out of Beta.
it is 2 years after this was uploaded ad it is in version 1.26 with no option for beta 1.9???
