- Woke up today and my verizon galaxy s4 wouldn't turn on. Tried different usb cables, different batteries, etc, but still not working. If anyone has a solution or has the same problem, please comment.
PROBLEM SOLVED GUYS: if it won't turn on, heat the phone up a bit (a little bit) and then do a battery pull, put it back in and turn it on ! Worked for me !
THAT'S THE SAME SHIT THAT HAPPENED TO ME!!!! I left it in overnight and the next day it didn't turn on. Got a new battery and everything and it still wouldn't work. I feel your pain

Try taking out the battery, taking out the sim card, and holding down the power button for about a minute while those are removed. Then put the battery and sim card back in and try turning your phone on. Worked for me when I had this problem this morning.

Alright, I spoke to a Samsung Service 800-726-7864 and the she said I had to take my S4 to a Best Buy that has a rom re-flash assistance service program and make an appointment first. She said if a re-flash doesn't work then I can call them back and schedule to send it in for a warranty service free of charge if there isn't water damage or negligence. She said it didn't matter and that the phone is fully covered for 1 year no matter what! I'm surprised they can re-flash a phone that doesn't turn on. I'm calling Best Buy tomorrow and schedule a re-flash. I'll comment in conclusion when things pan out. After some googling it seems many are having to exchange and service these phones. What a pitty.

Ok, Let me start from the beginning. I bought the phone off eBay with a bad ESN. The reason it wouldn't turn on is because I bought a wireless charging kit and while I was wirelessly charging it I plugged it in to the charger also to turbo charge it. I ended up turbo destroying it. Best buy said get lost we don't touch phones with a bad ESN. I called Samsung and didn't tell them about the bad ESN. I just said it wouldn't turn on. They said if it was rooted that they would refuse service and return it. Well, they fixed it somehow or maybe replaced it and sent it back to me. It was rooted but since It wouldn't turn on I'm guessing they never found out. They did send me a s4 with a bad ESN though. I took it down to a computer repair place and a highly qualified Vietnamese gentleman re flashed the original rom and got rid of the bad ESN somehow. He also unlocked the phone so I could go with any carrier I wanted to except Verizon. I paid him $60 and I originally paid $340 for the phone when the s4 was still the flagship. I'm still using the phone now but with all the hassle I can tell you I learned my lesson.
I bought a mint Verizon S4 off Bay with a bad IMEI for $396 to use as a tablet and maybe unlock for phone use. I rooted it so I could stream media from a SD card plugged into a OTG cable and everything worked fine for 6 weeks. Compared to iOS Android is real buggy so a couple times a week the phone would randomly restart or freeze where battery removal was the only way to bring it back to life. The other night I turned it off with 95% battery and an hour later it wouldn't start so I plugged it in and the battery symbol appeared but it still wouldn't turn on. I unplugged it, removed the battery momentarily and reinserted it and still not starting. Now when I plug it in now there is no battery icon like there was before and the phone is dead. I've tried 6 combinations of button holding including vol/up power without success. I have a spare battery and charger so even inserting a fresh battery while plugged in does nothing. I doubt I'll get any warranty service because of the bad IMEI so I'm probably have to pay. I'm taking it to a this week to see how bad I'll get reemed. Also something strange; when I remove the battery and plugs he phone in to its OEM charger the top part of the phone where the PC board is warms up. This is a dead phone without a battery heating up! Anybody have that happen to them?

in my case the powerbutton is finaly stuck forever means phone doesnt turn on only when a charged battery is inserted it shows the samsung logo for 3 seconds and shuts off again, in this case you cant gon in recovery, or download mode at all. means odin is useless at this point. i opened the device and realized the powerbutton inside the device(behind the outer button) is defected. because i tried to bend it and it suddenly worked for a day or so. now it is stuck again, and i decided to change it for a new one. i recommend not to press any buttons violently or drop or hit the phone. and dont open it as you might mess up with other things.

Naci Aslandogan I'm having that same problem as well. However I did open up my phone and i looked at the power button and it can still "click" when it is pushed down so i'm not sure if that is the problem for me but the way you described it sounds like it might be it. I suppose I'll open it up and find something else.
OK guys, I just got back from the Verizon Store in Alison Viejo CA and they treated me as if I stole the phone. I explained how I bought it off eBay with a bad IMEI to use as a tablet and I probably would never activate the phone. They said the phone is reported as stolen and only the original owner could get warranty service even though the damn phone is 5 months old. The guy was a total asshole and said to him my phone had less value than a piece of paper he was holding. He said he could confiscate the phone from me and call the police if I continued to take up his time. He treated me with open contempt. I'm going to try to return it to the jerk I bought it off eBay from. He was selling many phones all with bad IMEIs and I figured these were phones that people kept and sold after breaching their Verizon contract. If that doesn't work then I'll try Samsung Tech and if that fails I'll have to sell it for parts for around $150 were as I paid $396 for it. This whole experience has left a bad taste in my mouth with Samsung, Verizon and eBay.
You can reboot as many times as u want but its only a temporary fix. U have to take it in for a new phone.. I have sprint and didnt have the protection plan. What i did, i had an old phone and activated/swapped on the phone line. That gave me the option to call and add the protection plan with sprint. A day later i managed to reboot samsung and switch it back. Took it to my local sprint store and got another one for free. Sorry u r having issues.
I've found that if you hold the power button and homescreen button for about 8 seconds, the phone will turn off and you can reboot it from there. Lot's of complaints on this i see.. Mine will be going back for an exchange today.
Woke up this morning to find my Galaxy S4 on, but no display. Pulled battery, the display shows some vertical lines, but nothing else.
I suspect the GPU overheated.
I got this like five times but taking the battery out worked every time though.
I poped out my SIM card and popped it back in and it worked
Yeah... I dropped my Samsung Galaxy Luna twice with a good case and screen protection, but the screen's not lighting up. It's like the black screen of death, I guess, but mine's screwed, I think.

The same happend to me tonight, but it seems like the battery is defect, cuz if i let my phone plugged for a few secs after i undplug it, it vibrates and the bettery symbol shows up only to shut down after 1 sec.

If it doesn't power on its the power button. The flex is probably broken from it being pressed too much. Like iPhones. Replace the flex
looks like you have a crack next to the power button. that might have something to do with it
Thid is because of overheating, the video chip was damaged and does not display anything.
I can't get mine to register on any computer. I have tried different batteries and different usb cables. Drivers are installed on the pc's but still is not detected. ANY IDEAS ?
Nope that didn't help. Other GS4's are detected but not this one. I pulled the board and inspected it under a magnifier and I see no obvious signs of damage or water contact. It gets hot in one spot on the board just above a battery contact when it's plugged in to usb or a wall outlet.

Yeah I replaced the charge ribbon too. Is the ecc a chip?

It has been replaced with a brand new ribbon and it is the proper one. :-)
experienced the same problem today. nothing helps so I sent it for reclamation

I think when you charge it to much to much power goes into the battery then the battery brakes then the phone don't turn on
