2007, I bought a Star wars collectors case from ebay for $35. It said that it came figures but the person did not showed them. It came with 22 figures all from from the first movie, including blue snagletooth! I will never find a deal as sweet as that one!
I really thought the scene of the droids Luke has building the dwelling in Mandalorian episode? Look like they were inspired by the droid factory playset. Take a good look. They were an unexpected yet pleasant surprise to see and added even more depth to that scene, the show, and the entire Star Wars canon. Nice and different!⚡️
Great video. I agree with all these and more. I have always included any depictions of the denizens of the galaxy as part of the figure line. I don't rule out beasts, droids, inarticulation, how they were packaged, international versions, or variants. They all deserve a place in the line on the shelf with the primary figures, in my opinion. People can have their own views, of course. The video highlights how deserving these toys are when added with the line and I just think its limiting to exclude. Without getting into variants or international versions too much, I still think there is more than even this great list. I realize these are controversial for some fans married to just the carded figures, but feel the following should also be included: The orange, and brown snakes that came with Yoda. ...The partial R2-D2 figures (or R2 Units,) that came with the X-Wing AND battle damaged X-Wing fighters. They're fixed in place but still are supposed to be representing astromech droids. ...The overlooked Droid Factory droids. Aside from the 3 legged R2, the inserts provided precise images and names to assemble them; the Rollarc Droid, the Tracto Droid, the Quad-Pod Droid, and the Mechano Droid. Arguably, even the one the insert suggests in the image using all parts to build, the Monster Droid.... Then there is the crude Seeker Robot Droid Remote from the Millenium Falcon toy. Released only for the 1st film, I understand. While you can argue it's equipment, it did have enough AI to interact and has Droid or robot in the name. ... The wind up walking Artoo Detoo, sold in Canada and Japan. This in many ways is sculpted better than the primary release versions and is a perfect addition....The Ewok and Droid lines, inc. Vlix, which I know are not part of this movie specific list but still are in the galaxy of classic Star Wars toys....There are even more variations and international only versions of figures I won't get into but in my world they should be included in the line. Even though I don't have them all myself due to scarcity or price. I understand how one can argue against certain toys. Each fan may have their own view on what's included, and that's okay. I for example, love to add figures (pvcs, erasers, etc., that look like a figure and are in scale range,) yet know full well they arent part of line and that even Kenner may not have released them, but are still fun for me to pepper in the normal line. Ultimately, the others mentioned above and the Padawan's list all serve to really bolster and enhance, and add more excitement to the incredible original line we all know and love, and that is a worthwhile venture.
These are all GREAT editions to the collection and very much worth mentioning! I did a MEGA edit of ALL the figures in one video and I did include the R2 wind up version and may get that soon myself :). Thanks for the added info and for the awesome comment, Matt! I appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment.
Thanks for your insight my friend! Yes I was really curious what people thought. But I do think that all these items make a complete collection along with the carded figures.
Nice... this is the kind of topic we could debate for hours! Obviously if it didn't have a card back, how could it be an action figure? But the "blue snags" always comes to mind...or the carbonite Han. I remember when that Slave 1 came out and that accessory was a little too small but still it scratches that itch with the play value. So, if it gives you nostalgia, no one can change your mind...
Thanks Frak!!!! Yes this was meant to start a discussion and to show what I think ARE action figures. I mean, the rancor box does say FIGURE on it ;). Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. I hope all is well in your world
Great video! I've got all those in my collection so it was fun to check them off as I watched the video. I've got one more for you to consider: The Walking Wind Up R2-D2. Would love to see a video on that!
You know how the boxes for the vehicles have photos of the product , sometimes with figures in the photos? Well I cut the figures out and I say THEY'RE figures! 😂 To me a figure is of a character with a speaking part or, if a background character, shows an obvious culture and has at least some articulation. Who makes the rules for this? I dunno, nobody's able to tell me, it seems to be arbitrary so as far as I'm concerned, it's ME! 😂👍
Well said Acro! Yea I wanted to pose this question out there mainly to let peeps know what I think are figures and THEN to see what people think. I like to read peoples opinions of how they curate their collections or define what is and what isn’t (fill in the blank)
An excellent video Joey. I agree, if it's a living being (character, creature, or monster), it is a must-have to complete your figure collection. The Han Solo Carbonite block from the Slave 1 ship might just be an accessory if we're being honest, but it is supposed to be Han, so let's count it anyway. 😉 I appreciate that you shared again what you paid along with the current market pricing. I always find that of interest & am happy you've added that for us. Another A+ effort. Can't wait to see your next one Joey.
Thanks Mopar! I always look forward to your thoughts after a video so thank you for taking the time to comment your opinions and watching my friend 🙏. I hope all is well!
Great video as always. I usually consider the Action Figures to be the carded figures and ones available in mail away. In any case, just collet EVERYTHING vintage and you are good :)
Another great video Joe!! I love the public service announcement!! Lol... I think the dewback is not considered a figure, does it fit in your case behind you? Lol.. just kidding. Thanks again for the videos. I write info on index cards for my searches when I buy for pricing and quality. Thanks brother, keep them coming!!!
I actually do have it in a case behind me 😎. If you look under my main case, it’s in the case just underneath it. Made by the same company. Collector Displays. I’m really glad these videos can help you out! MTFBWY
The dianoga monster is supposed to be a python snake like creature. Because Kenner didn't have anything to go on much, that's what they came up with 😂. Rebo Band is obviously action figures. Frozen Han Solo I always counted as a variation figure and R2-D2 droid factory. Salacious Crumb is also 👌The rest are creatures I suppose, but can squeeze them in with the figures displayed 😂👍 Thanks for video bro✊😎
@@thepadawancollectorofficial I almost got it too, but instead spent my birthday money on a Micronauts Force Commander and his horse from that same store.
I agree with you on these. They are action figures. Now I need to go and get a loose Trash Compactor figure and the R2-D2 from the Droid Factory to add to the loose figures. When I was a kid and played with my Star Wars I actually used the R2 from Droid Factory instead of the actual carded figure. This is because of the 3rd leg and he really was a lot better for action scenes. I do have a question for you. Being a musician, I love my Rebo Band figures a lot. However, the clarinet from Droopy is missing and I use some other thing as a replacement. I have not found anywhere to find one, any suggestions where I might be able to find one? Thanks for the video, as always I enjoy them.
I'm not sure what to say about the carbonite block, on one hand you have an accessory that is not to scale with the other figures, but then you have an accessory that fits TO the figure (POTF Han). Wouldn't the carbonite Han accessory be more of an action figure than the Slave I accessory? Not only that, but the carbonite block that comes with Han Solo is molded to look like the figure. Either way, I would love to display the Slave I accessory with my figures. :) Peoples and characters: Action figures Jabba: action figure He's an alien character • Animals, beasts, and monsters: Beast figures/creatures • Tauntaun, rancor, dewback: Animals For me, the wampa is a tough one, is it an action figure, or is it a beast figure? My question is where does it end? Sure, all these are figures no matter if they're animals/beasts or characters/peoples. But does any of it have to do with size? If I consider the dianoga trash monster an action figure, which has NO articulation, but I don't consider the rancor and action figure .. DOES size matter? I've heard people argue that the Droid Factory R2 is not a figure, because you have to make it yourself. My argument is, what difference would it make as long as the outcome is an action figure? But as for the other Droid Factory droid pieces, those are accessories that can BECOME action figures. Thanks for the video
Thanks for your insights my friend! Yes there is no right or wrong answer for this, it’s really what the collector wants to define. I was interested to see others opinions, but I do these these items make a complete collection when added to the carded figures
If you watch the original scene of the Max Rebo band in Return of the Jedi you can see the bent instrument mic in front of Droopy. Max doesn't have a microphone.
Thanks for the info Michael! I used to have it with Droopy, but it looks better with Max IMO. I have seen it paired both ways and it looks waaay better with Max and displays better imo.
Agree on all. Have collected since 1978, and have almost ALL of those. I think it's time to start selling my collection. Do you have anh tips? Thanks, and great vids
Great video. What’s your opinion on the other droid factory droids. Technically they have official names and articulation. Did they officially have to be in the movies to qualify?
Is it a figure or an "action" figure is the question that divides this topic. { want it all, so its not a question that divides me. With the big ones, you have to ask, is it a creature or a character? Define your collection, then answer the questions, then you have youe=r answer. Wait, is Yoda's snake a creature, a character or just an accessory?
Hey Alex! It’s really up to you what you consider an action figure or accessory or whatever. This video is my interpretation, but yours may be different, the thing in common is that NONE are wrong. We can curate our collections the way we want.
I think there is a distinction between what is an action figure and what might be a creature or monster. Take a line like Clash of the Titans. We all consider the 5POA people as figures but the Pegasus horse is an animal and the Kraken is a monster. those two are not action figures. Take Jurassic Park. The people are action figures and all the dinosaurs are just that -dinosaurs. not action figures. So therefore action figures seem to be what we classify as things with intelligence. So Jabba is an action figure. but the Taun Taun and Dewback are creatures or monsters. Much like a T-Rex is a dinosaur or monster and Pegasus is an animal -not action figure. Seems like intelligence draws the line between creature or action figure.
another example is a mech suit. if a robot has intelligence like a Transformer (Bumblebee), it’s an action figure. but when a robotic thing doesn’t have its own intelligence and it requires a pilot -like a mech suit -then, it’s a vehicle. Like the giant mech in Halo. That’s a vehicle that comes with an action figure pilot and not a set with two action figures. The packaging says vehicle and figure, yet both the mech and the pilot have legs and arms that are articulated. And all Transformers say action figure. so it seems the distinction is intelligence.
@@thepadawancollectorofficial maybe. I was thinking about him. I know Jabba is considered a figure and Crumb. I thought maybe Wampa is semi-intelligent so he would be a figure. much like toys of Bigfoot are considered action figures.
@Superawesomegeekshow totally. Yea I was on the fence about all of these except the blue snag, but hey might as well present them and include them and have collectors give their opinions. The more I think about what is an action figure and not I just think, we’ll the rancor IS a big figure. It even says it on the box. But yea the taun taun and dewback, that’s def arguable.
@@thepadawancollectorofficial that’s interesting. I would have said the Rancor was a monster -like a dinosaur and categorized it as not an action figure. But if the box says action figure, then it’s an action figure. This is a good discussion. I’m sure people are all over the place on this topic. Different collectors feel differently about this, I’m sure.
I think that the Dianoga is indeed an action figure. Sure, it isn't articulated or painted, but I can see how it would be a ton of fun to play with by itself even without the Death Star playset. I'd say that an item in question is an action figure if it meets at least two of these criteria: 1. Three dimensional representation of a specific character or species from a Star Wars movie, TV show, novel, comic book or video game. Two dimensional drawings or paintings, etc. don't count. 2. Articulates in at least one point, giving it some 'action' 3. Was made for the purpose of being played with rather than displayed as an art piece. For example, a fragile, glued together scale model wouldn't count 4. Does not represent a non-living mode of transportation in Star Wars. For example, a space ship like an X-Wing Fighter or a ground vehicle like a Speeder Bike do not count. 5. Could reasonably be considered fun to play with on its own without anything else to go with it I would say that the Dianoga meets all criteria except #2. Snaggletooth wasn't a favorite of mine as a kid, but he's grown on me. I love them both too, but am satisfied to now have only the 'lesser valuable' Red Snag as he looks a bit more like the character in the movie anyway. Now, if someone wanted to give me a Blue Snag, or sell him to me for less than $40, I wouldn't say no, of course. I agree that the Dewback is an action figure. He meets all of my criteria. As a kid, I called my Dewback 'Dewy' both from the name on the box and after one of Donald Duck's nephews and treated him as another character with my Stormtroopers treating him like you would a favorite pet horse. I repaired my saddle and reins many moons ago when I was a kid. I did alright with super glue and tape since it's still holding. I'd love to have a Droid Factory! It's a holy grail of mine. I'm surprised that my family never go one for me given how much I loved building toys as a kid. The R2D2 from it is certainly a distinct figure. It's very obviously different from the other R2's I loved my Tauntaun as a kid just as much as my Dewy. His name was Tauny and he and Hoth Rebel Trooper were as inseparable to me as The Lone Ranger and Silver. His saddle and reins are in better shape than my Dewback's Probe Droid is an excellent action figure! Just as cool as the ones for any of the other droids Kenner made. Han in Carbonite is a bit of a stretch indeed, but I'll agree with you on it. It fits three of my criteria. Not sure how fun it would be to play with by itself and it doesn't articulate but it fits the rest of them. Certainly a great figure to pair with another figure, especially Boba Fett or Leia. I have one that is a refrigerator magnet. It's my favorite version of Han in Carbonite as it is the same scale as the other action figures. I'd love to have a Wampa Ice Creature! My wife gave me a stuffed teddy bear version that makes roaring and growling noises so he's my Wampa for now. Jabba the Hutt is certainly an action figure as is his little buddy Salicious Crumb. Salicious is slightly closer to being an action figure than Dionega. Rancor is an action figure in my book. I wish I'd gotten one before they became precious. Maybe someday. Man! Having a Rancor to fight with my cousin's Godzilla would have been epic back in the day! The Band is another grail set. Even having just one of the band members would be great! Too bad they never made an action figure of the Bith musicians from the Cantina Band (aka Figrin D'an and the Modal Nodes back in the 80's. It would have been so easy for them to make one figure and then package it with one of seven different musical instruments so you'd have to buy seven of them to have the whole band. They made them later on in the 90's and I have one of those who came with all seven instruments. It's really neat. I love how you show us both your mistakes and successes. Your channel is good anyway, but your candor makes it educational, one of the best.
Thanks for sharing your opinion with us John! I enjoyed reading it! I've said this before and I'll say it again: no one is wrong, and I love seeing what your definition of an action figure - you have my definitions in the video, so its rad to see and hear how other collectors curate their collections. Thanks for sharing with us!
@@thepadawancollectorofficial You bet! After years of discussing Star Wars toys with people, I came up with those criteria and they seem to work in most cases. I've seen somewhat compelling arguments to add things like the AT-AT and AT-ST to the list of action figures because you can pose them so much, but they really are best played with when you have action figures of characters and they are treated like just vehicles in the movies. A friend once suggested to me that the AT-AT and Millennium Falcon were playsets as well as vehicles because they have pegs for action figures to stand on and they are so large that they hold many figures. I'm more inclined to agree with that than the idea that some of the large vehicles are action figures. None of our classifications are super serious, but they are fun to debate in a light hearted way anyway. The only time I've had the categories become somewhat more serious was when I was involved with helping to make websites and social media groups that were supposed to be strictly for Star Wars action figures so that the discussion of the figures could be more in depth. Now and then, someone would try to add a toy that didn't fit the definition of an action figure very well.
Idk, but it talks about that moment in the novelization if I’m not mistaken, and how a surge of energy flowed when he turned it on. Almost like one of those high powered fire hoses that the pro firefighters use. I remember Han being aware that it takes a powerful person to control the massive amount of energy the saber produced.
Trash monster - a prop, it’s not an action figure, there is no action to be had! Blue snaggletooth - it’s 100% and action figure, it cools great and has all the articulation Dewback - while I consider this one an action figure all the way, others may disagree, Droid built R2 D2 - yes I do consider this an action figure, it’s like a Mr. Potato head! And the other droids you can make in the set I also count, but the piece all separated. I don’t count Tauntaun - like dewback, this is an action figure, same with its other variant Probe bot - this is a hard one, I think a lot of action could be made with it, it’s more the power droid, and I don’t consider him an action figure, probe bot reminds me of a play set, cool design, great interaction, but not really like the others, Carbonated solo - no it’s not an action figure, even less than the trash monster, while I think it’s an awesome inclusion, just nothing to play with! It’s honestly equivalent to those card bored stands, Hoth Wampa - it has all the articulation as a normal figure, yeah I consider is an action figure Jabba the hut - yes indeed, it’s in my opinion a action figure, while others may consider it a prop, I think it’s a great toy Jabba’s little buddy - me personally I think it’s a prop, but I have no idea what people think about him Rancor monster - again, all the articulation as a normal action figure, it is an action figure Sy snootles and the rebo band - I actually don’t know, truly, it looks like a prop and Is great for that role, but they also are action figures, I don’t have an answer to this one And that’s it! It was super fun making this, and if you don’t agree with this, tell me! I would love you hear your opinion on these,
Wow thanks for your list Turtle! You just watched my vid so you know where I stand on these, but good news is: no one is ever right or wrong when it comes to how they classify their collection.
My Star Wars collection will never be complete screw paying the money people want for a Blue Snaggletooth and a pop up lightsaber R2 or any last 17 for that matter I’m lucky to have most never would I buy those even if I won the lottery I couldn’t justify paying those prices for a action figure.
@@thepadawancollectorofficial brilliant videos by the way entertaining and fun. It wasn’t a dig at you it was just my view in general of the prices for these figures.

@@thepadawancollectorofficial
I agree on the completion standpoint.
If it's alive or has agency, then it belongs in the figure collection. :)
Hey Jose! Yes there is a whole series on ANH make sure to check it out!
Great video. What’s your opinion on the other droid factory droids. Technically they have official names and articulation. Did they officially have to be in the movies to qualify?
Its really your collection, your rules! I only included the R2 unit but one of them did make it to Rogue One or Solo, I forgot which one.
Great info
Thanks Gareth!!
Where do you get that backdrop display. For all the original figures? On your right my left?
That is from Collector Displays. I have done several videos about their products. The owner is a great guy and a collector himself.
Love your channel
Thanks Aron! I appreciate you watching
Got to have both white and grey hair ben obiwan
Those are both great!
Great explanation. But a creature can still be an action figure. If the wampa was 3.75 inch and carded we would still call it an action figure right?
I'd say that an item in question is an action figure if it meets at least two of these criteria:
1. Three dimensional representation of a specific character or species from a Star Wars movie, TV show, novel, comic book or video game. Two dimensional drawings or paintings, etc. don't count.
2. Articulates in at least one point, giving it some 'action'
3. Was made for the purpose of being played with rather than displayed as an art piece. For example, a fragile, glued together scale model wouldn't count
4. Does not represent a non-living mode of transportation in Star Wars. For example, a space ship like an X-Wing Fighter or a ground vehicle like a Speeder Bike do not count.
5. Could reasonably be considered fun to play with on its own without anything else to go with it
I would say that the Dianoga meets all criteria except #2.
It's very obviously different from the other R2's
I loved my Tauntaun as a kid just as much as my Dewy. His name was Tauny and he and Hoth Rebel Trooper were as inseparable to me as The Lone Ranger and Silver. His saddle and reins are in better shape than my Dewback's
Probe Droid is an excellent action figure!
We 😂need to Push the DIANOGA Resale Prices up to $1000-2000 EACH. Cause I have 2!! One Graded 95
WOW 95! Thats super rad!!! haha push push push!!!!
Did you get the carbonite Han?
No not yet! It’s on my list of items to get. I want to get the little acrylic stand for it too
@@thepadawancollectorofficial Good luck out there. Hope you find one soon.
I always thought the 2nd mic went with Droopy, not Max 🤔
It looks better with max.
I consider all the living characters, figures…..and r2 3 leg and probot
Thanks for your insight Obi!!! And thanks for watching!
Why was Han able to use Luke's lightsaber ???
Idk, but it talks about that moment in the novelization if I’m not mistaken, and how a surge of energy flowed when he turned it on. Almost like one of those high powered fire hoses that the pro firefighters use. I remember Han being aware that it takes a powerful person to control the massive amount of energy the saber produced.
Trash monster - a prop, it’s not an action figure, there is no action to be had!
Blue snaggletooth - it’s 100% and action figure, it cools great and has all the articulation
Dewback - while I consider this one an action figure all the way, others may disagree,
Droid built R2 D2 - yes I do consider this an action figure, it’s like a Mr. Potato head! And the other droids you can make in the set I also count, but the piece all separated. I don’t count
Tauntaun - like dewback, this is an action figure, same with its other variant
Probe bot - this is a hard one, I think a lot of action could be made with it, it’s more the power droid, and I don’t consider him an action figure, probe bot reminds me of a play set, cool design, great interaction, but not really like the others,
Carbonated solo - no it’s not an action figure, even less than the trash monster, while I think it’s an awesome inclusion, just nothing to play with! It’s honestly equivalent to those card bored stands,
Hoth Wampa - it has all the articulation as a normal figure, yeah I consider is an action figure
Jabba the hut - yes indeed, it’s in my opinion a action figure, while others may consider it a prop, I think it’s a great toy
Jabba’s little buddy - me personally I think it’s a prop, but I have no idea what people think about him
Rancor monster - again, all the articulation as a normal action figure, it is an action figure
Sy snootles and the rebo band - I actually don’t know, truly, it looks like a prop and Is great for that role, but they also are action figures, I don’t have an answer to this one
And that’s it! It was super fun making this, and if you don’t agree with this, tell me! I would love you hear your opinion on these,
Wow thanks for your list Turtle! You just watched my vid so you know where I stand on these, but good news is: no one is ever right or wrong when it comes to how they classify their collection.
@@thepadawancollectorofficial yeah I agree with that! Everyone has their own separate opinions
These are not figures get real . They are playset . New hope 😭
Thanks Trey! Yes you aren’t wrong, they are whatever you want them to be. Your collection your rules!
My Star Wars collection will never be complete screw paying the money people want for a Blue Snaggletooth and a pop up lightsaber R2 or any last 17 for that matter I’m lucky to have most never would I buy those even if I won the lottery I couldn’t justify paying those prices for a action figure.
Thanks for leaving your thoughts on this Neither! I agree, the prices are high. Thanks for watching my friend!
@@thepadawancollectorofficial brilliant videos by the way entertaining and fun. It wasn’t a dig at you it was just my view in general of the prices for these figures.
