We live in the sticks. A 150+ year old farmhouse made of stone with metal roof. We've installed blast windows and doors from our basement to our living room (that's 3 1/2 stories), and everything else is out of reach without a ladder. We have well water, and the well room is actually inside of our house opposite the root cellar. We have a whole house non-electric system to deliver our water. We have a lagoon instead of city sewer or septic. We chose this place for it's remoteness and acreage. We could go off grid today and have no problems at all, except no more internet, lol. Don't wait til SHTF to equip your castle with livestock and a large garden, because that will be too late.
