    I hate the modern, "contemporary" worship that has taken over the Lutheran churches in the US. We traded hymns and liturgy for drums and electric guitars. Disgusting. This video is beautiful to see.

      @VDMA LCMS.... And I found a "good" one (after suffering through one that was all about the harmful church-growth movement, and several that felt like 2 or 3 different congregations, based on whether you attended the liturgical vs contemporary service). Btw, if you are interested in LCMS stuff on YT, my pastor is Bryan Wolfmueller and he is AWESOME.

    Uppsala Cathedral is the heart of the Lutheran Church in Sweden where students of theology studied for centuries. Lutherans have no fear of Catholicism when they hold to their "catholic traditions" in the spirit of reform. Luther would be proud to worship here.

      Wonder what Martin Luther would say about the Swedes having the Pope in their Reformation service? Many feel Pope’s ecumenical efforts, like kissing the Quran and bowing to an Imam , are laying the foundation for the one world religion of end times. Muhammad’s allah is NOT the God of the Bible, he is the ancient moon god idol.

But I've found out, a bit, and I've realized that Orthodox, Roman Catholic, Anglican, Presbiterian and Lutheran Churches have a lot of symbols, religious clothes, choirs, traditions, architecture of the temples, lithurgy,, etc. in common. I hope these Christian Churches will work together, soon. I am sure they could do an excellent job around the world!

      Tbh I don’t think Presbyterian worship is very liturgical, it is structured with a liturgy but it’s more barebones in terms of symbolism. The Reformed tradition uses the regulative principle in which anything not commanded in Scripture is rejected. Whereas Lutherans believe in adiaphora, which means that anything that isn’t explicitly forbidden is allowed

      @@brendonpremkumar8207 Ive noticed that too, it seems mainline denominations are usually more liturgical than their conservative counterparts, especially TEC vs ACNA and UMC vs Wesleyan/FMC/Nazarene. My local PCUSA church is this huge building, looks almost like a cathedral (ofc they dont have bishops so not actually lol)
      Lutheranism seems tricky though, there are some very liturgical ELCA churches near me but most aren’t, hell with the one in my town the pastor doesn’t even wear vestments for their contemporary service! Online Ive seen many Evangelical Catholic LCMS pastors but around me they’re also just as low church
      Wish Lutheranism in America wasn’t so pietistic overall, Europe seems to care more about retaining the Mass like the Augsburg Confession actually says :(

    I wish Lutheran churches in America were like this. Love the robes, incense, cross, and even the banner with Mother Mary. But usually American churches are rather plain, with the pastor wearing only a stole, and a simple altar with a plain cross and a few candles. But I am also very saddened with the progressive direction that Lutherans in Europe are taking. I pray that the Word of God is taken more seriously and that a revival happens. 🙏

      The closer Lutherans lived near Roman Catholics and suffered the 30 Years [religious] War in central Europe and that killed 1/3 of the population of Germany, the more they distanced themselves from their catholic heritage--though much still remains. In Scandinavia, Lutherans did not have this experience and so retained more of it. They did not borrow these elements from Anglicans. It is part and parcel Lutheran. All Lutherans deleted certain elements in the mass that they found unscriptural, put it the differing languages of people, stressed preaching and introduced hymn singing. More and more, the 70 million Lutherans around the world are gradually re-appropriating their catholic heritage--some more, others less. But unlike Protestants it has always been there to some degree.

      +Multi0703 Possession is 9/10ths of the law; all happening after pagans invaded the first Christian church, blended God's teachings with heathenism and created Roman Catholicism. The Lutherans broke ranks with her in 1517. You say 1527 but everyone knows it was on 31st October, 1517 that Dr. Martin Luther, a young devout monk, publicized his list of 95 theses inquiring among other things on the sale of indulgences, actually selling the way to heaven.

      So why Luther kept according to his will many of the things that Protestant fanatics like you seems to hate or ignore other Protestants do, such as the Mass, the veneration for the Virgin Mary, churches, cathedrals, celebration of Christian holidays, statues, paints, icons, stained glassed, the calendar of the saints, the celebration of the saints, a hierarchy and all the Catholic thinking medieval literature, from Saint Thomas Aquinas to Saint Augustine of Algeria?
      - It is clear to me that his struggle was more about getting power than to "purify" the Church.

      @brendonpremkumar8207 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That's because the Lutheran Church, unlike the Reformed Church, never meant to be Protestant. Although Luther was credited for the Reformation, he saw his movement as a reforming movement within the Catholic Church rather than Protestant. So Lutherans are really closer to Roman Catholics than to Reformed.

    • @DeFyYing
      @DeFyYing ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@brendonpremkumar8207 agreed, I think ultimately it came from two very different perspectives of the Reformation. While both the Lutherans and the Reformed agreed on taking issue with the Catholic church of their day, the latter felt that reformation necessitated completely rebuilding the Church from the ground up, whereas the former merely sought to reform it while maintaining as much of its preexisting structure as possible
      This is mostly seen with the Reformed regulative principle vs the Lutheran normative principle. Essentially, Calvin believed that anything which was not explicitly commanded in Scripture should be forbidden in terms of doctrine and worship. Meanwhile, Luther believed that anything which is explicitly forbidden in Scripture should be thrown out, but anything else is fair game. So anything of the Christian faith which is neither commanded nor forbidden (adiaphora) is permitted to exist, and often is preferable for it to in order to maintain continuity with the Early Church and its patrimony

    • @gina-mariezzii
      @gina-mariezzii 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +abcdefgh1688 Of course the liturgy is Catholic, Catholicism is the form of worship that is closest to God in scripture, works, sacrament, and prayer. Catholics do not leave out parts of scripture that other sects seem to ignore, nor books of the bible, for that matter. Catholicism is complete surrender and devotion.

      @Masaru Kodama "is a movement which began in 20th-century Europe that emphasizes worship practices and doctrines that are similar to those found within both Roman Catholicism and the Anglo-Catholic wing of Anglicanism"
      "The mentioned countries, once a part of the Swedish Empire, have more markedly preserved Catholic traditions. "

      @LuigiFilipeBonvenuto 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Masaru Kodama This is the reason that i wrote "a union between lutehran and catholic traditions" but as many protestants, especially swedish, I think they're more close to catholicism with this liturgy and tradition, even if the protestant theology. They're like a "via media"

    I want to know why do the reformed churches (calvinism) are looking far different of Lutherans?

    • @DeFyYing
      @DeFyYing 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Very late reply lol, but the Calvinists were iconoclasts and believed in the regulative principle. Essentially anything that wasn't explicitly in the Bible was strictly forbidden. Whereas the Lutherans wanted to preserve many parts of the ancient church tradition, as long as it wasn't explicitly forbidden by Scripture. If it wasn't mentioned, then it could still be optionally practiced.

    what is the difference between high church lutheran and anglican high church?

    • @bwilliamleo7872
      @bwilliamleo7872 25 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Old High Church Anglicans had a Eucharistic theology more similar to the Reformed school, emphasising a spiritual real presence rather than corporal, but they also reserved more 'Catholic' understandings than Lutherans in Eucharistic Sacrifice and Apostolic ministry, also certain aspects regarding to the Saints and dead faithful (we may find some indirect invocational prayers to the saints in 17th c Laudians). The Anglo-catholics after the Oxford Movement are in all aspacts more in line with the Roman Chuch, some anglo-papalists even see the pope as their spiritual leader, embracing the infalibility.

      Saint John Quincy why is that abnormal?

    • @stigbylind587
      @stigbylind587 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Saint John Quincy I'm swedish, and I agree with you. But many of us still oppose women priests.
      I live in a parish where all priests are conservative "high church". It's growing with converts from Islam and a revival with many young people. The sermons are allways excellent with references to the Church fathers and the holy scripture. The congregation is like a big family.
      But of course, the liberals have destroyed much. Everything they touch dies, as one priest told me.

    • @stigbylind587
      @stigbylind587 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      kingjayapala It's wrong with women as priests, both according to the holy Scripture and tradition. Luther also explicitly opposed women as priests.
      But women can serve as deaconesses, make important decisions in the parish council, run the economy and a lot of other things.

    • @kingjayapala
      @kingjayapala 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Stig Bylind that's good that you have high church liturgy and are growing with new converts from Islam. But I still see nothing wrong with female pastors in the 21st century. And I'm a very religious Lutheran in the US who actively shares the Good News with every person I can. But I'll admit that I'm quite liberal in most of my views.

    • @stigbylind587
      @stigbylind587 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      kingjayapala Yes, we live in the 21th century, but what's that supposed to mean? 100 years ago people lived in the 20th century. Every period of time has been "modern" for the people of that time. That's not an argument for women priests. Actually, it's not an argument at all. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, and today and forever.
      The New Testament priest (=presbyter) is "father of the house" for God's people, one of those "whom his lord shall make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of meat in due season". Everyone familiar with jewish celebration of Passover can see the same structure (and of course in the last supper when Jesus "took bread, gave thanks, brake and gave". The priests serves "in the person of Christ".
      There were priestesses in several pagan religions, and demands were apparently made in apostolic time that women should preach and lead the congregation. However that was rejected by the apostles. St. Paul didn't refer to something that can change with time, but to "commandments of the Lord".
      Because the church is generally attributed with feminine terms "holy mother church", "the bride of Christ", I think true balance is achieved with an all-male priesthood. That was God's all-wise counsel from the beginning.
