    I really like that y'all are doing this series again, i remember when i first got into this sport there was also a series explaining FE and that really helped me get up to speed with the sport. and this one is more in-depth too so yeah, great for new fans.
    also, i like that the drivers featured in this are the FE veterans.

    I think you people should talk more about how regen works. I think it's a really cool bit of technology and that it's also worth explaining why regenerating too much power is penalized

      Nice idea! One for start of next season perhaps?

    • @BillyCovington
      @BillyCovington 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I also think power usage in general should be explained because drivers are also penalized for “overconsumption” - why can’t isn’t the energy usage capped remotely so that drivers just “run out” of energy just like they would run out of gas? Wouldn’t that be penalty enough?

    • @johnwhittaker311
      @johnwhittaker311 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@BillyCovington just like your road car, running out of energy (or fuel) will not mean there is nothing left, it just means that they desperately need to fill up. It allows you to travel a bit longer to do so, otherwise cars would be stopping in the middle of the road. Plus, completely draining your battery and charging it to its maximum is actually bad for it. This is why most car companies will set 0% to display when a little is still left, and 100% when it could still hold more charge. Formula E penalise using more than the allocation because it encourages the manufacturers to become more and more efficient, which increases road relevancy

    • @xureality
      @xureality 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BillyCovington the most important aspect of this would be so that cars don't come to a standstill on the middle of the track, which would impede other drivers or straight up cause a crash. Of course drivers could "glide" somewhat out of the racing line, but that really only mitigates the problem, the street circuits are really narrow after all. And it also prevents yellow flags and/or safety cars coming out on the last few laps, not only to keep the racing going but also to negate having the stewards out on track.
      Arguably they could have the car go into limp mode once they 'run out' as that would be a good way to make the penalties immediately apparent, but that's still liable to cause some accidents when racing in tight packs.

      @mosscliff red car mean the outside of the car is potentially live (has current going through it). It also means that the driver is probably not having a good time because it’s a hard knock to get the car live (they have very strong connections in the battery bay and a strong surrounding). If it is live, and a driver or marshal touches the car (driver is insulated in the cockpit), it would ground a probably fatal current through them.

    Because these cars are navigating pretty narrow street circuits, I think four-wheel steering and torque vectoring would be a pretty helpful addition. It would also be nice to see four-wheel steering become a lot more commonplace on road cars.
    Additionally, I would like to see _regenerative suspension_ happen: basically, the suspension system is coupled with linear alternators and piezoelectric materials so that even the smallest suspension travel from the slightest bump in the road will produce a small bit of extra energy for the battery without the car needing to slow down.
    Lastly, something that I want to see on the cars (mostly for aesthetic, but possibly also for function) would be underglow. Name one motorsport where all of the cars have an underglow. That's what I thought.

    Whats worrying is how long it takes to put out a fire on an electric car, if the driver gets knocked out there's zero chance it'll be put out in time, i know it's still very possible in a petrol car but there's zero chance with electric

    • @saunderscb

      Luckily the cars are designed for that to be avoided at all costs. The extra wall around the battery, anti-intrusion panels and so on.

    • @saunderscb
      @saunderscb 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      There’s so much to it though by design, different tyres, different track types, downforce amounts etc. Even if you matched the power output, speed and weight the base chassis would still be very different. I’m not sure there will ever be a direct comparison that’s accurate unless someone designs two the cars specifically to be compared. One ICE, one Electric.

    • @nikamirimran
      @nikamirimran 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't think we will ever get that. With the Gen 2 FE cars, there's way less downforce and tyre contact patch that makes it slower than an f1 car, and the top speed makes it only equal to a formula 3 car. In terms of weight, the FE car already holds a 903kg weight including the driver and battery while the new 2022 f1 car weighs 960kg including the driver and 100kg max fuel allowance
