Well thats normal, in turkey we have the maroon berets and they’re so secretive, in their 50 year existence, only one movie was shot about them. They don’t like to advertise and they don’t like to give out details. If everybody knows you, you will loose the element of surprise and the element of fear. The most important parameter for this is experience in real combat. You can be well trained but things are not the same when the enemy bullets start to whistle in your ears...

Those cages the SAS recruits are locked in used to be left next to train tracks. Having not eaten and slept in a week, the recruits believe they're going to be hit by the train. Also, they don't play loud music through the headphones, they play disturbing sounds like baby crying. Former British special forces operator Ant Middleton had to listen to a woman being attack whilst a baby cried in the background for hours whilst being in stress positions. He said it was the hardest part of selection due to the fact that he and his wife had just had their first baby. The interrogation and torture phase of the selection process is different for every recruit, as the training staff use the recruits' personal weaknesses/phobias against them to see how they cope.

Beckwith came back to the U.S. and told the generals we should have a unit "like" the SAS. The SAS had nothing to do with making Delta. "Big Phil" Campion a former member of the SAS said so in SOFREP. He said they didn't form Delta, and they didn't train them. That is a myth that seems to get perpetuated with brits. The SAS had about as much to do with Delta as the U.S. military did with your RAF, since Americans were first in flight (the Wright brothers).

The SBS and the SAS are a part of the UKSF meaning United Kingdom Special Forces. To this day they are basically the same thing and now get equal funding. The SBS recruit straight from the Royal Marines Commando, so they have that basic elite skill as it is. I would personally put them higher, maybe on par with the SEALs.
GIGN isn't a special force. In France the special forces would be "commando marine". I'm surprised they are not in this list since the training is one of the toughest in the world. Their history started in WW2 and trained with the British. They also accomplished missions that even SAS couldn't do so they deserve a spot on that list like #2

Truth is, the country hardly acknowledges that Delta exists. DEVGRU is the most advanced SEAL team around, I almost became an armorer for those guys in the Navy. They hand select from other SEAL teams to make DEVGRU or Team 6.
I have to agree with the list. I have done some reading on the SAS and they truly are the best. I have been privileged to know and work with a few Green Berets when I served with the 19th SFG on a Recon/Decon team and they even speak highly of the SAS. That says something.

I wouldn't say that the SAS is the best option. The SBS do a lot more now than they used to, they just don't get the same amount of press as the SAS do so they aren't as known about. The Last article I read about the SBS was in July when some soldiers from the SBS were in Afghanistan and they beat ISIS soldiers too death, one used his rifle as a club, some used rocks and one drowned someone in a puddle... They had no ammunition left. I think most think the SAS is better as they are given a lot of press but really special forces don't need the press.
Thing is, nobody knows jackshit about which one is best in said list, except people own biases and hollywood movies. training is only one part and more or less same across the board.

I agree, they’re not that much better than everyone else, they just get more publicity and a bigger reputation. Most special forces and working in the shadows, they don’t need a rep to prove themselves. But the number one thing to keep in mind is that the unit means F all, it’s down to the individual soldier.

I think the one thing that distinct the SAS from other special forces is their reputation, and they have been around the longest, and they have build the fundation of the majority of special forces in the world. Those cages the SAS recruits are locked in used to be left next to train tracks. Having not eaten and slept in a week, the recruits believe they're going to be hit by the train. Also, they don't play loud music through the headphones, they play disturbing sounds like baby crying. Former British special forces operator Ant Middleton had to listen to a woman being attack whilst a baby cried in the background for hours whilst being in stress positions. He said it was the hardest part of selection due to the fact that he and his wife had just had their first baby. The interrogation and torture phase of the selection process is different for every recruit, as the training staff use the recruits' personal weaknesses/phobias against them to see how they cope.

@@obi7288 There is no single "best" unit. There are a group of units that are among the best. Some of that can be broken down into area of operation, environment and conditions. There are some units that will be better at one aspect of some mission in a specific area/environment/condition.

Beckwith came back to the U.S. and told the generals we should have a unit "like" the SAS. The SAS had nothing to do with making Delta. "Big Phil" Campion a former member of the SAS said so in SOFREP. He said they didn't form Delta, and they didn't train them. That is a myth that seems to get perpetuated with brits. The SAS had about as much to do with Delta as the U.S. military did with your RAF, since Americans were first in flight (the Wright brothers).

The SBS and the SAS are a part of the UKSF meaning United Kingdom Special Forces. To this day they are basically the same thing and now get equal funding. The SBS recruit straight from the Royal Marines Commando, so they have that basic elite skill as it is. I would personally put them higher, maybe on par with the SEALs.

GIGN isn't a special force. In France the special forces would be "commando marine". I'm surprised they are not in this list since the training is one of the toughest in the world. Their history started in WW2 and trained with the British. They also accomplished missions that even SAS couldn't do so they deserve a spot on that list like #2

The only other tier 1 units in us armed forces are devgru (seal team 6) and 24th sts. Other seal teams dont come even close.God how i hate when people champion the seals like they are the best. And where are JTF2, GIGN, JW GROM?
Not 2 mention delta force recruits from the seals and their the preferred recruits for the cia SAD unit not 2 mention at least 50% of the delta training is classified so you can't even get a fair comparison to the British SAS because we don't know what their mental training consists of

Truth is, the country hardly acknowledges that Delta exists. DEVGRU is the most advanced SEAL team around, I almost became an armorer for those guys in the Navy. They hand select from other SEAL teams to make DEVGRU or Team 6.
I have to agree with the list. I have done some reading on the SAS and they truly are the best. I have been privileged to know and work with a few Green Berets when I served with the 19th SFG on a Recon/Decon team and they even speak highly of the SAS. That says something.

I wouldn't say that the SAS is the best option. The SBS do a lot more now than they used to, they just don't get the same amount of press as the SAS do so they aren't as known about. The Last article I read about the SBS was in July when some soldiers from the SBS were in Afghanistan and they beat ISIS soldiers too death, one used his rifle as a club, some used rocks and one drowned someone in a puddle... They had no ammunition left.
I think most think the SAS is better as they are given a lot of press but really special forces don't need the press.
