  • One of my favorites to have around. If water is your preferred method, adding liquid plant food can help increase longevity.

    I planted a large pot of them about a year ago.... I neglected to water for about 3 months and that shit was still alive. (Dealing with hurricane damage and didn't have time to do little things like watering easily replaceable plants.) I highly recommend them for beginners. Not only is it very hard to kill but the stalks can be harvested over and over giving the budding gardener the positive motivation to continue.

      Another easy one is mint. But it spreads! So make sure to plant it somewhere away from anything you don't want taken over!
      When I was 11 we moved into a house that had mint growing along the back fence. That was perfect since it was at the bottom of the yard with just grass and trees around, maybe some bushes. There were more flowering plants and beds closer to the house. (Not a giant yard, but a long rectangle.)
      That mint got no attention unless we were cutting some, or 10 years later when my Mom got remarried, my step-Dad who loved gardening started battling some of it back. 😂 Now 40+ years since we had moved there and it's still growing strong.

    I don't understand why gardeners (especially new gardeners) want to grow every plant they see in water when most plants have evolved for millions of years to grow in soil.

      tips?

    • @marissalaird5628
      @marissalaird5628 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nmpoy as you cut and grow off of it little bulbs will grow off of the top every so often let them grow until they start to kind of grow roots and then poke them in the ground. So when your other ones get too old and stop growing so well you can pull them out and still continue. But also remember to change the dirt every so often because your plants will the their dirt will start to become hydrophobic which means they won't take water right. But eat off of them like normal. But I just let it grow and pull off of it and eat off of it and continuously use it and replace it every so often cuz some parts of it do become too old because like the main part of my plant literally turns three and I'm probably going to have to replace the main part of my plant here soon with one of its babies.

    If you let a couple flower inside of the flowers, they will start shooting new bulbs. You can pop the bulbs off the flowers and replant them straight into the ground and they will route within 2 to 3 days.

    If you want to keep them In Water make a homemade fertilizer with a banana peel, one tea bag of black tea and coffee grounds soak everything in hot water for an hour and strain it then let it cool down and add 2-3 tbsp of it to the water of your green onions. Mine were so firm and dark green and smelled great. Replace with clean water after a week and always make sure the water is clean and not murky. Add the fertilizer once a month
