It looks brown, but it's plants, plankton, fungi, bacteria, protozoa, animals, minerals, all part of the microscopic ecosystem that support wildlife higher and higher on the food chain, and eventually humans. There are a lot of living organisms and essential components of the seas thriving in that "sand" that took millions and millions of years to create that perfect balance, of which is disrupted.
@@misskai8158 It's a strait, not ocean. A strait only have small amount of organisms and not as diverse as compared to ocean. And after a dredging, these small organisms count will eventually recover because these organisms is not as complicated as a mammalia

The sand from the rivers is toxic and needs to be cleaned before using somewhere else.

They have safeguards on the suction heads. I worked on one with the Army Corps Of Engineers.
