  • Today the World Water Forum starts in Bali, where world leaders will discuss the sustainability of water resources for a week. To illustrate the issue of water management, we head to Panama. The Panama Canal, one of the world’s major maritime trade routes, has suffered a decline in its water levels ever since drought affected the country last year. As well as reducing traffic through the canal in the short term, the country is looking for long-term solutions to guarantee transit as well as access to water drinking water for the population. This report by Quentin Duval and Matthieu Comin.

Known facts: Every 1C temperature rise takes 7% more moisture to the air. We are currently at 1,6C as 12 month mean (Copernicus). This leads to over 10% more moisture to the air and less moisture to the land.
We can see a pattern where there is heatwaves, that leads to droughts and wildfires. And when they end, there is a heavy rains and flooding. Panama could be at the drought state.
El Niño is just bringing its taste over this pattern. And we keep on worsening the droughts by clear cutting the nearby forests. And we keep on burning fossil fuels, so temperature keeps on rising and the situation will only worsen in the future.
The only real solution starts with:
    Stop burning fossil fuels. Today.

They need a hot water reactor and a desalination plant that feeds into the canal. Reactors need to run 24/7, so you pump water when you don't need power for something else.

United Nations: Climate change refers to long-term shifts in temperatures and weather patterns. Human activities have been the main driver of climate change, primarily due to the burning of fossil fuels like coal, oil and gas.
    Hydrologist: The El Nino phenomenon.
Universe: Stability is an illusion created by humanity's short life span.

When the Canal is going OK the panamenians start living luxury lives with high CO2 footprints.

Go back to smaller ships rather than experimenting with changing nature, just going to make living in the future more difficult
