From the bottom of my heart and I'm only 20 years old. Just dont pursue it if you cant afford it. College is free for me I actually get a free $2000 a quarter. Due to my moms brains and my hard work. I know people who are depressed because of SLD and college is getting worse professors dont care or have the time for you. It's hard to get a job now lowkey and competition is crazy. Imagine you with no debt even if you're only making 40k a year. Invest create start something. You won't regret it. Get into herbs and organic health to prevent heart disease instead of going to school to try to save someone with a terrible lifestyle and diet. If not then do you. I can only give advice.

That depends on what colleges you're talking about . In California legislators decide to what extent to subsidize CSU and UC. Not the colleges themselves.Given the choice - and a fixed amount to either spend on colleges or prisons. Funding prisons - and maintaining public safety - has been more of a priority. Aside from that, both CSU and UC supplemented their income with foreign students who pay double tuition.

    1. Gaining knowledge - you can get knowledge on your own actually and college is not needed in most of the cases. U can buy textbooks even for $1000 and learn the same knowledge at the same level. Especially in regards to humanistic subjects where it’s all based on reading books and conversations. Some problems arise in case of scientific subjects where u need a laboratory, devices etc.
    2. Labour market - here we have a negative trend that for many regular office jobs it’s required to have some college education (bachelor’s) degree what is ridiculous when we look at activities and skills needful in those jobs.

Don't spend 30K or 40K on a degree that you end up making minimum wage. Also, see if you even need a degree in what you want to do. Many people get degrees in something that they didn't even need to go to college for. Have a plan and be intentional. Then the worry will go away because your taking control of the situation.

I damn sho was not going to pay for anything college wise when my ancestors gave 400+ years of free labor to this country. As a result of my thinking regarding this issue and my strategic planning, not only was I debt free through undergrad and grad school, I got paid to go to school. Earning my degrees was the best thing that happened to me but not if I was going to be buried neck high in debt for a degree.

Now I am obviously no expert on how this stuff works, but lemme know what you think of this for getting student debts paid...It would be similar to a 401k plan. You contribute say $200 a paycheck towards your student loan. It gets automatically deducted. That $200 becomes nontaxable income for you as the employee and eliminates the FICA taxes the employer would have to pay if that income were taxable. This would give the employee incentive to pay off their student loan faster. And this would give the employer incentive to hire new graduates with student debt. The government is helping by not taxing, but not outright giving handouts. People need to work for the support . Thoughts?

Wrong from the first 60 seconds. About 33% of graduates have ZERO debt -- they work their way through at state schools, get scholarships/grants and/or family assistance. The remaining 2/3ds have an average $30k debt but the median debt load is closer to $15k. A small percentage of 6-figure borrowers skew the average. Hard to watch the rest of this when they're so wrong, so fast...

Vote with your feet, if you dont go to uni, the prices will drop. If you feel that you must go to uni, be careful about the courses you do, and make sure there is a job for you when you get out, like Doctor, Engineer, Computer Programer, dont pic subjects like Drama, Religion and so on, because I am sure there are not too many jobs out there.
As far as this problem goes, I have no sympathy for anyone, because if you run up a debt, you have to pay it back dont you.
