I think clippers and TH-cam algorithm are the reasons Hololive started to dominate. Also, looks like 2022 is the year of the rise of Suisei. She's definitely worked hard.

The most interesting to me are the few who started weaker but then greatly caught up later. Especially Miko and Suisei, but to some extent also Ina.
And when channels manage to punch way above their subscriber count in individual metrics, like how Flare is 11th most superchatted despite having fewer than 1 mio subs, or regularly gets >10k viewers on some types of streams.
Also holy Hololive dominance.
I mean, susei and miko, like Roboco are very early hololive members, they are talented and build it, and now their hard work bears fruit

Kinda scary to see how hololive is dominating this chart at the end and kinda sad to see how Kazui didn't used her potential and advantage as "first" vtuber so her channels stagnated and views are relatively small.
She's doing live concerts, commercials, interviews, and many other things. She moved past youtube.
I like how Gura just showed up and said "Ah" and the whole world loved it. She's Gura the golden girl. She's both smart(in a general knowledge sense, not maths admittedly) witty and has a voice that is both sweet and smooth.
If senzawa is still active she would have ranked 24th

interest infomation. It's kind of sad that the early wave of vtubers like Akari , Siro , himehina pretty much stopped to grow since early 2020
The vtubing scene had a seismic change. It went from Kizuna Ai inspired short scripted videos to stream-focused interaction. This format was ultimately much prefered because you got a lot more direct interaction. It was no longer enough to just watch a cute vtuber anime girl. It's always hardest for those who were at the peak of success in the old style to embrace the new, and in this case it caused stagnation in most of the "original" vtubers. But yeah its a bit sad. Perhaps the most unfortunate individual thing is Kaguya Luna though; I don't think she "quite" hit 1m? At least judging from this. Pain.
2020 came and the rest of hololive was, "allow us to introduce ourselves"
I love that Gura's subcount looked at the numbers of Kizuna Ai and said "I'm about to end this girl's whole career" and just straight up went _NNNNNYOM_ right up to second place within about 1 month's time, slowly catching up over the following half 'a year, finally surpassing her in July 2021!

Technically Kizuna Ai VTuber career already ended. The original VA left a long time ago. Its just bunch of clones now that took over her channel
@@vanthursday What? The original Kizuna Ai was still there. She even made a video addressing the fact where she basically goes on a rant and makes it a point to prove it's her by essentially repeating her original introduction video so that people can judge for themselves. Just blame the clone saga on poor business decision trying to capitalize on Ai's fame at the time.
That aside, Ai by herself has yet to actually retire. She's only gone on hiatus with her last concert being held last February. Why she left is unclear last I checked but I'm guessing it has to do with some personal stuff and other business stuff like the whole Kizuna Ai anime coming out in 2023 which she's likely helping out with.
I love how Gura was not only so quickly the 1st VTuber in Hololive to get 1M, she also quite quickly became the 1st VTuber ever to get 3M just as Kizuna was at around 2.9M. XD
Also, it's interesting to see that Calli's literally the 3rd VTuber ever to get 2M after Kizuna and Gura.

That's pretty crazy that Nyanners, who is primarily a twitch streamer, managed to make 14th place in TH-cam Subscriber numbers.
She had been a TH-camr for close to a decade previously, doing shitpost content like meme voiceovers and song covers. And unlike Hololive (pretty much all of them had been content creators of some kind, too), she just started posting to her pre-existing TH-cam channel and didn't have to start with a new identity.
I’m really hope that more people will talk about the four heavenly kings of vtubers. I’m not sure why but it seems that most people who watch en vtuber don’t know who are the four heavenly kings. I really hope that people who watch vtubers for a while or just join in can acknowledge and appreciate all the effort which the four heavenly kings had put. Without them, the vtubers won’t be this popular.

It might have something to do with the fact her parent company essentially abandoned her while also restricting what she could do as kaguya luna.
Her alt account /past life that is independent quickly overtook it and i think she eveb addressed her days as kaguya luna directly

Kaguya Luna could have been one of the biggest vtubers on the planet had her agency known how to handle her talents. So many good people, so many talented girls and boys lost along the way because of bad corporate decisions. I am just happy some of them managed to come back and I'm glad that nijisanji and hololive learned from their mistakes and take care of their talents so much better now.

Wait so Kaguya Luna was soooo close to 1 million subs (999 thousand and change) but then it went down for a while and before she could become only the second VTuber ever to a million subs she (and Korone and Fubuki) got boat-raced by Gura.
Did Kaguya ever make it to 1 million? what happend?
Towa and Shion are now over 1 mil subscribers too, this makes 32 VTubers that I am aware of with 1 mil +.
Of those 32 only 7 are non Hololive. (Kizuna, Nyanners, Nimu, Kazuha, Gibpuri, Kson, and TFMJonny.)
And even of those 7 non-Holos, one was a Holo (Coco/Kson) and one used her existing decade-old TH-cam channel to skip right to 500k.

I always watch all hololive and I knew that gawr gura is the top vtuber so it’s not a surprise to me it’s just that hololive dominates the chart and gura is my top list I always watch. And I am not getting tired of watching her most of it.

She just stopped at one upload halfway through 2020 and didn't say anything YT wise and was gone. I think all Vtubers realized pre-production non-live shows were dead by Covid times. All big risers (hololive) were 99% live content.

She has been inactive since about September 2020. Maybe this is an effect of this.
She officially retired at the end of November 2021.
Her mom (2D character designer) is the same as Hakos Baelz from the Hololive EN 2nd gen.

Kizuna Ai has a game TH-cam account, about 1.5M, why not calculate into?
Because the same people that likes the normal Kizuna Ai channel are probably also subscribed to the gaming account. If we counted that, it wouldn't be fair. IT would be like including hololive's official channel that has 1.75M into every hololive member or like adding all of Mr Beast's different language and topic youtube channels together which would be around 190M
