Gotta say I love the fact you don't edit the shit out of yourself and keep in the kind of little mistakes all humans make. Like picking up power supplies or sitting on your Mic or spilling coffee or whatever but even when you fuck a board up you don't sugar coat it. That's a fine trait. It's also endearing.

I purchased one at a Target few months back, although I’ve moved on over to Exclusively PlayStation. I like the novelty of this mini fridge and only use it for storing my drinks and snacks. I don’t use it to keep anything cold. I only want to mod the top of the unit to more resemble the actual Series X. Your video shows me what I’m up against. Thanks man.

In my experience with Xbox over the years, it’s always been a powerbrick issue. Every Xbox that I’ve owned besides the OG (360-Xbox One X) has had issues that I had to fix. I am grateful to Microsoft because I taught myself to properly clean and repair consoles.

@TheCod3r Screw terminals don't play well with stranded wires. The professional way to join those, both on the AC and DC side, would be Wago 221-412 connectors. They are just generally better than those terminal blocks for just about any application, including household electrical installation (there are variants to join up to 5 wires). I'd always keep a few of those on hand.

Just make sure that there is no 12V on the 12V input pins when running on AC power supply. My fridge(Coca-Cola, but same on the inside) had a diode on the original PSU otuput side. That way, one could not supply the AC PSU with 12V on its output.

Dude, if you're going to be working on power supplies, get some old test leads and wire them up to an incandescent light bulb. An essential tool for discharging caps - it'll light up if it's dangerous and discharge the cap whilst it's doing it. Wear rubber gloves too - much less chance of electrocuting yourself if you put something non conductive between yourself and the old hurty electric stuff.
Sparking yourself just after taking your gloves off though, comedy gold.

If I'd lived closer to you, Phil, I'd have looked at the original PSU to sort it out, but I'm up in Leeds. (I've been working on PSU's of various types for almost 30 years) - Never handle them without checking the caps voltage wise. On some I've repaired it has been touching 400v. I also never multi-meter probe a cap two handed, if your leads fail, it will likely discharge across your chest. I clip a ground on, and probe the high voltage caps one-handed. I have a tool for discharging caps, strictly not necessary, I just got fed up of forgetting where I'd put my discharge resistor..

That's skill (and muscle memory), not advanced intelligence. Repeat a certain task (or sequence of tasks) and most people are bound to get good at it.
Everyone's capable of learning new skills, it's just that 90% of most people's waking hours are spent eating, drinking, working their butts off at a typical 9-to-5 job, and maintaining a social life, leaving them with precious little time to work on any non-work-related skills.

Primary side PSU caps in a switcher when the switching transistor/IC stops working are absolutely lethal.
I've had many electric zaps including full 240VAC mains in my hand as a child plugging in a 13A plug with no back cover, and a few 15kV-30kV from CRTs.
Nothing as bad as primary side caps in a switching PSU charged up to 340VDC while offline for at least an hour but still holding charge.
Thankfully it just burnt a tunnel through my thumb and left black scars. Holding on to a huge CRT telly and not dropping it because of implosion - I just suffered the total dissipation of the brilliant Panasonic Electrolytic HV Capacitor! I would recommend them to anyone.
    The joys of a '89 TV/VCR apprentice.

Tip with those wire blocks m8, if you strip a peice of the wire and cut it off, then wrap that around the wire core before you put it in, you get a much stronger grip on the connection

You can pay 25 quid for a shitty TEC cooler, but your leccy bills will go through the roof compared to a proper fridge when using it. They are very inefficient. Even the good ones can only lower temps by 5 Celsius on full pelt. Come up with interesting heat exhaust solutions (kind of like a portable aircon with the pipe out the window) and you can achieve better.

Why dont you actually discharge caps yourself m8, i prefer doing this with a decent sized resistor myself, instead of justy hoping it will discharge. Lol I started tying this before you shocked yourself. i much prefer to know 100% that im not going to get a shock(again) lol edit, your fine for a cold drink m8, your coffee goes cold as often as mines lol
edit yey again, lol. pick up a pair of plier type nail cuters m8, I find them amazing for tripping wire, i dont even bother with wire strippers anymore, they are so quick and easy stripping back and very rarelydo i even damage any of the cores :)
