You are a real amazing technician. With so fewer tools without the sophisticated aids/tools I see others use on TH-cam, you managed to get the HDD working. Bravo ! My friend. You inspired me !! Thanks.
Agreed, you did a good job with the wrong tools, well done. Good to see that you also get those moments where things ping off in different directions. Happens a lot in real life, but you don't often see it in these videos. Well done for keeping it real. I have a Seagate also, and a WD drive both with problems. This gives me more confidence to try to mend them. Though one of them I am sure is not a power issue.
❤️ Its nice to know you guys are being inspired by the videos. I'm also getting inspired by comments like this from you guys. Thank you! You're awesome 😊
it is advised to check what type of diode is on a specific board as these often are specific for their purpose, many times diodes in this place are Zener clamping diodes for over voltage protection, they often fail short when a power supply have failed and output too much voltage making the diode overload and die. Drives may have one for 5 volt and one for 12 so if you put a diode from a 5v rail to the 12v it gonna give the magic smoke if it is the Zener type. many years ago I actually had a dead external drive that one of these diodes died on and I revived it by replacing it. Actually if the diode is just for the over voltage protection it may work to just remove it to recover the data from the dead drive.
I have this harddisk too I have one is dead I wish you was in mumbai would given you that harddisk. You can keep it if you want it is totally dead. I am from The Netherlands.
I tried connecting it with a SATA USB adapter to my DELL PC, but sadly none of the files showed up. And, unfortunately, I do not have an enclosure to use it as an external drive. Mine is also a Seagate Desktop HDD but it's actually a 1TB.
No, that won't work. If you have completely similar pcb from other HDD that may make your dead hard drive spin but you won't be able to use your hard drive like that. To make your old HDD work again you need move the EEPROM chip from the original PCB to the new one then it will work fine without any problem.
You can make a PCB swap if you have two equal boards but you have to move the ROM chip to the new board otherwise it will not work, every hard drive have unique and specific data about the orientation and calibration of the heads and platters stored on this chip and if you move the PCB to a different drive it will be out of calibration without the original chip
Hello can you repair my hard disk?? It's the same like the one in the video. Problem is harddisk is running but i feel the vibration in hardisk rarely like the disk is spinning and stopping and spinning and stopping
@@fixmclearn so is it repairable or throw it in a recycling bin 🤔, bro it is 1000gb. if you know any repairing centers for this hard disk, please do tell me.
As you told, the drive is spinning and stopping so the drive is getting power. It most probably the head which is stopping the drive. IDK the drive is not repairable.
Hi, please do me a big favour. I have a hard that spins, makes a big noise and stops. I have a 6 seconds video in my profile (only video I have). Please check that and let me know what could be the problem. Thank you! Seagate barracuda 7200.12 1tb
@@ashandesilvad This is clearly a head problem. At this point you can't do anything. If it has important data on it, give it to a professional for data recovery.
@@fixmclearn Thank you so much for your time and input! Really appreciate it! Data recovery is extremely expensive. Even though there is important data, I'm letting go of it cz too expensive to recover. That's why I was wondering whether trying to replace the head by myself or something would work. A long shot, unfortunately I hv no other option. Thanks again for your help!
Changing head is nightmare. You can't just change the head. You need to find exactly same model of the drive with working head and after changing the head the drive need to be calibrated and reprogrammed to accept the new head. This requires lot of special tools, dustless room and special software and hardware tools.

Desktop HDDs need 12 Volt to work. Must use 3.5 inch HDD enclosure that comes with additional 12 Volt adaptor. Then it will be detected by USB.
Ok, thank you.

If the drive is spinning we can't fix the drive because it's a hardware problem. We only can fix a hard drive which is just dead, doing nothing.

Its not worth it, even if you have valuable data on it. You have to accept that the drive is gone.
