I hope you know even 6 years later this video is so so helpful I know absolutely nothing about cars and I did this myself today, thanks for saving my bank account 😂
03:39 10 cents tip: Put a flexible 3 foot section of plastic tube over the purge spout and route the tube down where it will not interfere when draining the water every 10,000 miles (or every oil change is a good time to drain the water out). Bring the filter drain spout to the local hardware store if you do not have a tube handy. Then find the tube diameter that will snug up to the drain spout. Disconnect it by hand without a clamp over it. As it droops over the years, cut off a new tip to snug it up again as it will swell. When draining water, put it in a collection bottle to see how much water was in or any contaminants. I use the fuel collected as a good tool cleaning solution to put on a rag.
what year is your tdi? mines is a 2002, also do you need to pull out the fuel pump fuse and remove the gas cap before starting procedure?? I saw othe videos, that said to do this? again they did not state what year was there vehicle, and filter was on bottom of car??
I considered doing this but I wasn't sure if the liquid Molly was safe to run through the filter. It's unlikely it would damage the filter but I didn't want to take a chance.
blakem311 so apparently when I spoke with a reputable parts/ service technician at a shop that strictly deals with vw. He said that he has never sold a single can of liquid moly. Said he would not see any benefit from doing that. But knows that on the net lots of people say to do it.
When I bought my filter on amazon.... cuz it was $40 from advance it recommended I buy the moly stuff. I did buy it because my 1998 tdi has been run into the dirt by the previous owners. Idk if it will help. I think I will just add it to the fuel tank and put diesel directly in the filter. Thank you for the video.
Yes, you should be able to. Just remove the clip and pull the thingy straight up :) you might have the unscrew the filter clamp and slide the filter down in order to have a bit more room to remove the o-rings.
I change it every two oil changes (every change @ 12.000kms) It usually comes clean as diesel fuel is quite good here in Europe, but hey, its dirt chea and te last one was 15 euro off Amazon and it was Mann too, and I had to pry open the steel ring too.... It protects your injectors...
@@honestguy7764 does changing the fuel filter have a noticeable impact on the car? My Jetta is starting to feel like it’s got less power. Not accelerating as efficiently. I’m wondering about this and the turbo.

Very helpful thanks! Could have included removing/replacing the clip (tricky) but thanks again.
Great video!!! Thank you for making this easy
Just curious do you still have your MK 4 if so how many miles now ?

He quite clearly says at the start it’s a 2000 🙄
awsome video, Thank you
Don't you need
to bleed the injector pipes afterwards?
good video. but to be better shouldn't you fill the filter with liquid Molly to clean your injectors at the same time?

Idomu kaip uzkurei jei slangutė persvieciama uzsilenkusi😂
Marvel Mistry oil in the filter lubricates the pump and injectors, it will run on the oil let it idle for five minutes then drive normally.
Can you change the o rings without disconnecting the hoses on each side of the thingy

Thanks for the video.....
Great video!
How often have you been replacing it?
Every 20k miles
