One of the greatest slide players.. incredibly versatile. from Delta blues up through Jazz and R&B.. he made Crossroads a fantastic film as well as Southern Comfort
I was watching this back in 1973 when my mother decided it was awful and changed channels. I was devastated and it was something of a turning point for me - it was consciously knowing what I like! So glad I can watch it uninterrupted (except by buffering) today 🙂
Good comment ND - already armed with the track 'Money Honey' included on 'Fruity' - the Warner Bros sampler, I bought 'Into the Purple Valley'. Ry's appearance on the OGWT confirmed what I suspected - this fella was something special. Everything he's done since has just continued to re-inforce that belief - his music is timeless.
know the feeling, my dad would change the channel immediately if he knew I was into it. 'tripe!' he would say. mind you he loved jazz just a certain few years window of it. We still argue about that. Fun kinda.
I have leaned alot about "slide" watching and listening to Ry Cooder.. I was in my second year of college when he did this. I did not appreciate it then .. ToDAy I appreciate it.. and all the others who came before.. Hail to our roots..
Did u have surgery on your head Ry Cooder, when did this occur? Inquisitive mind wants to know..great wrap surrounding your head, need help unwrapping it,let me know..
