Good review. Thanks for doing the budget knives - I plan to touch only inexpensive knives so I don’t end up mortgaging the house for a collection of expensive blades. It’s a slippery slope!
It is easy to want to get more expensive knives over time, but for people who have good self control in other areas of life it is possible to have self control with knives too, but certainly the desire will be there, especially if you go to knife shows, even the little community ones but most certainly if you go to something like Blade Show. The thing is that it is fairly easy to resist the more expensive knives when you only see them on a screen, but once you take them in hand it takes much more self control. I will stick primarily to budget knives because I know that there are a LOT of guys out there who have very limited budgets and they deserve to get a very good idea of what a knife is like before they put down some of their hard earned cash. But I do occasionally review the odd knife that costs more.
I have found that some nice Wet Dry sandpaper does wonders for my micarta handled knives. I smooth over anything that bothers me (especially on fixed blades) and they become like old friends. What could be better than a custom handle that you made to suit your preferences. I keep paper up to 2000 grit which is more like polishing but that's a personal thing.
Indeed. A good sandpaper works well on G10 too. Just be careful when sanding G10, it has glass fibers in it and they turn to a fine dust and it can easily permanently damage ones lungs. Best to use a mask and try to do it outside if possible with a breeze to ones back.
Yes, it is available right now: $138USD - ali.ski/XjY3_ Should be on Amazon in a little while and maybe soon at PowerCutlery.com - he will have the lowest price when he gets them.
Bought one in 2021 and loved it but I gave it away to a friend. I don't know why I did that. I do know I regretted doing that. There was a new delivery this week and lucky for me, there were a few FH91s. I bought one yesterday (03/16/2023) and I'm keeping it. I love my 41 but I think I like the 91 more. The handle is more hand-filling. I really like the slightly heavier weight. I don't think it's going to be as good of a slicer as the 41 but it's probably more than good enough. It may only be the one I got but the 91 seems to have a stronger lockup than the other models in the FH series.
We like our friends and want to show them how good of a knife you can get for a great price and so we impress them with a gift and then we promptly miss having it - at least that is how I am. The FH91 is more of a hard user, and the little bit extra weight in the blade of the FH91 makes it feel more sturdy, I think.
I don't think one is better than the other, it depends on what you want to do with the knife. The FH921 will be slightly better for light EDC tasks and the FH91 could be better for some harder use scenarios, but mostly it's just a question of preference.
To recess pocket clip screws they need to get a different screw. The majority of budget folders use only one type of screw for the entire knife, other than the pivot screw - they do this to save money. It isn't possible to recess a button screw on a pocket clip, but it is easy to recess a button screw in G10.
I am glad they finally started doing their own designs. they are even inviting knife designers to start working with them, of course they will only work with knife designers with low experience, they don't work with the designers who are well known.
I have reviewed pretty much EVERY (except the automatics) knife they made since the G7## series started. YES, I will review the FH923 it is supposed to be in the mail as I type this, I ordered it a few days ago - but packages can move slowly into Canada.
Love all these Ganzo FHx1 knives. Pick a style/shape you like and don’t think twice. Flawless flippers, hard and real D2, under $25 even on Amazon.... what are you waiting for? Do yourself a favor and get the blue; fun color without being crazy. Wherever you buy one, use Jake’s codes/links.
They are doing VERY well indeed. I just wish they would have kept working with reviewers like they did when I first started CCE. Back them I got the knifes straight from the factory even before they were in stores.
Yeah, that really sucks. I asked my viewers if one of them wanted to co-operate with me. I have my purchases go to him, he gets 2 or 3 days with each knife and then mails them up to me, and then over 95% make it to me. Other good news is the WhiteMountainKnives.com is now carrying Ganzo, he will have them in stock any day - don't forget to use CCE to save 10% - EVERY order of knives from him has come past the border with no delay because he ships under his name and not under his business name. VERY low risk.
@@CanadianCuttingEdge Sweet I will give him ago I’m also working on shooting a video of target knives and interview when he gets his new place and hopefully something else.
Hi. I don't have time to go back to the videos and check, you'll need to watch the Samson video to find that information. BUT, I can say that the grind angle measurements are ONLY for the one specific knife in each video. Because factory made knives are sharpened freehand and the angles on other knives of the exact same model WILL be different than on the knife I measured, so if you buy one yours will not have the same grind angles as mine did. I mention the grind angles in the hope that knife consumers will begin to demand that knife companies do a better job of consistently sharpening their knives.
No, Ganzo knives are not available in Canada. I have been buying mine from PowerCultery.com (California) and WhiteMountainKnives.com (New Hampshire) and from Chinese knife stores like AliExpress. Below EVERY video review I make I list the stores and provide links for where I got the knife and often add extra links for a variety of places to get the knives. Check the Video Description.
Yes, I have checked out the FT903, but I have not ordered it, at least not yet. i did order the FT11 last week, that will be my first Free Tiger I also ordered a brand called "Critical Strike" the S503. And finally, I ordered a Yon Xanadu model YX622. So three brands that I have not tried before.
I have reviewed over 70 Ganzo knives but only a handful of PF knives... I am still a bigger fan of Ganzo, but PF are quite nice, the build quality is very similar.
So, what you're saying is, its another nice Ganzo in the FH line and if the size and shape appeal to you, jump on it as its a good value. Did I miss anything? On the subject of Ganzo grips, and, to some extent to any G10 knife handle, I've found that 15 minutes with some 120 grit sand paper and a little imagination can turn a nice knife into a REALLY nice (as in comfortable) knife. I round all the top and bottom edges, relieve the area your thumb lays across when operating the liner lock and sometimes relieve the access to the lock bar to make it easier to actuate. While I'd cringe a little, I've done it enough to feel comfortable doing more expensive knives but hey, its a Ganzo, I can always gift it or sell it and replace it if I don't like how it turns out. Try it, you'll be amazed what a difference it makes. Oh, and to get rid of that "just sanded" look, a little mineral oil, wipe on, wipe off, and you'd think it came from the factory like that. I know I'll be adding a -91 to the collection and can already tell what contouring I'll be changing. Oh, on the name, I suspect that Ganzo makes some things other than knives so it made sense when they switched to Firebird to differentiate knife making. My guess is, the FB came from the tendency to shorten the name when communicating via print. BM=Benchmade, Spydie is Spyderco, FF is Ferrum Forge etc. I may be wrong, but it makes sense this way.
Yes, it is quite easy to do minor, but significant, modifications. Just be careful, there is glass fibers in G10 and sanding puts them into the air and they can be quite bad for the lungs, even causing real damage. Your guess about the name changes is a reasonable guess about the name but no, I used to be one of their main reviewers and so I had good contact with them and the name changes are all about trying to appeal to English speaking nations. Ganzo was often being called GONEzo by so many reviewers (and still is) and it doesn't sound very western. The name changes is all about marketing - they told me so. First to FireBird and then more recently to FBKnife, but when that changed happened they had already stopped working directly with any reviewers. (They had made the mistake of sending knives to any and every reviewer who asked and they found a number of knife reviewers hate "Made in China" and used their reviews to talk about how bad it is to get knives from China and the knives are junk. (Of course, Ganzo cannot and does not even try to compete or compare with $200 made in USA knives) So they decided, abruptly to stop working with any reviewers.
Well that sucks. it is VERY hard to get them into Canada too. Have you tried powercutlery.com? They are in USA, and they have the best prices on Ganzo knives. Also you get 5% off Ganzo knives with code "cce" - but you can only use that code once. I so hope they ship to Mexico. My wife is from Mexico - near Durango city.
Thanks for the sub! I try hard to give a lot of details, the real info that will help people decide which knives they want to buy. My opinion is worth something but the simple facts about the details of the knife are the most important stuff to me.
Only flipper knife i own is a SteelWil Cutjack and i stil dont get it open every time i want, not in an easy way at least. Almost bought me an Elementum for about ten times, but flipper, so i didnt. Maybe this one is nice enough to try, the specs and the knife in its total looks nice enough.
These Ganzo flippers work just fine without any wrist action at all (with no blade play) - at least for me. At least half of the skill using a flipper tab is the human factor. Over time and practice it's a skill that becomes easier and easier (for most guys) Some guys just can't use a flipper at all, just like some guys can't use thumbstuds or blades with holes. Like any skill, it has to be learned even if the knife is perfectly setup.
Nice video, your close ups on the knife are awesome.
I enjoy doing them.
Love this knife! Ganzo perfection all around! Bought 2 for $25 each. Whaaaaat? Awesome!

Once you get sucked in you can not get out.
