In a lifetime ago, I was in a choir that would occasionally sing some of these types of spirituals. But I've never sung this one before. So let me tell you, I wasn't ready for the ending of this piece. I wasn't ready. Were you? 😄😮 Absolutely wonderful!🙌🏽👏🏽
What a thrill!! Played this 10 times in a row--each time got me straight in the heart and down to my bones. Your ending is sensational, gave me chill bumps and found myself applauding as if I were right there in the audience! WOW!!! Cain't get enough.
That note at the end.......omg...my school's choir is performing this song for LGPE and I can only think of one person in our choir who can hit that note. It gives me goosebumps EVERYTIME I hear the note. Great job on the choir! I can't really complain on what might be bad because I'm not trained enough to know. Lol. Superior work!
Mahalia Jackson brought me here! Happy Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas ⛄🎄 Go HUG someone today IF they're been vaccinated or not 🚫 Greet all the Christians there with a Holy EMBRACE 1 Thessalonians 5:26 Blessings and Hugs 💖💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕!
Cultural difference make this song difficult for me to understand... could anyone tell me who's Mary &. Martha? what's the relationship between them and the ringing in jerusalem? and what's the song describing???
At the end you hear the sopranos singing New Jerusalem repeatedly, the song may have something to do with the end of times "I hear archangels rocking Jerusalem, I hear archangels ring dem bells..." Yet again I dont know for sure. It may something to do with the birth of Jesus when the archangel Gabriel told Mary she would conceive in her womb and bring forth a son
Very nasally tenors and baritones, try helping them darken their tones, especially on the melody. Basses are great, and the women are superb. Great performance
Alan Averett and who said black music is nasally and that we like it like that? His voice is like that and it's not nasal. As an alum of the choir tenors don't all sound that way. His voice just stands out. But it's not nasally.
Teach, Hawley! Everyone is entitled to their preference. However, we have different colors and textures of voices in our choir and we like to accentuate that. We are a teaching choir. Therefore, we sing songs of a variety of cultures and styles that will not all sound the same. In some demonstrations, more back resonance is used, as you seem to prefer, than front and vice versa. That's why vocalists have equalizers.
That's a high D at the end.........and she hit the note straight out of nowhere. Amazing
Katherine H. Li Definitely amazing! I was driving when I heard it and almost flipped out.
Yes. A very nice climatic ending!
It looked like it hurt tho😂

YAAAAAAAAAAAAAASSSSSSSSSSS
SAAAAAAAAAAAAANG
WOW!!!!!
Bass, Soprano, and Alto are rockin' it! Tenors need to sound like men, not children! Those overtones on the last few notes are *amazing*!
Was the ending in the original arrangement or did you add it? I can’t find anyone else who did that at the end
StarChild Maestra Simmons-Burke is a close friend of Stacey Gibbs - she arranged the ending with the permission of the composer. :)
Matthew Joyner Well I’m glad they put their own spin on it!

Its black music, its the style
Tony Giannamore they are not nasally, that's his singing voice.
Alan Averett and who said black music is nasally and that we like it like that? His voice is like that and it's not nasal. As an alum of the choir tenors don't all sound that way. His voice just stands out. But it's not nasally.

Usually tenors place their mix with a bit of nasal. I think it suits the range of this piece.
Great arrangement but posture is also a great key to performing.
