@@vionafernandes4619 saaaame .. but for me my best horror movie is silent hill 2006 if u know it even that he's not thaat scaring but its so fucking good
Chucky is a comedy. But, times were different back Then. My mom was scared as fuck after watching Childs Play in the movies. Watching Chucky today is just pure fun. Classic
Hello a problem I occasionally have with comments has happened with this comment instead of talking about chucky ( as I saw when I was commenting this) it was about the line from horrible historys Kings song
Bites Random Here's some suggestions, for anyone who's interested..go to a matinee, tix are USUALLY $3- $4 cheaper..go to a drive-in (yes, they still exist) watch some trailers a few weeks ahead of time, invite a bunch of ppl..use one car..,go to a $ store..or a five & under-bring own snacks! Get a tix in advance from Costco or AAA-just choose movie movie,times,etc.well..conditions on price depend on waiting for a few wks.after a new movie comes out, etc.Go to a movie Mon-Wed..prices are generally cheaper.Choose a smaller theatre chains (use "Flixster") to check-out local independent theatres.AND,if you live in Il.,like I do..check and see if you have "Classic Cinemas" near you..matinees before 6:00 are generally $6.00- $6.50-AND free refills on ALL POP,POPCORN & ICEES! Love helping ppl save $..hope it helps!
I'll save 13 minutes of your life. Here's the list: 10. The texas chainsaw massacre (1974) 9. The blair witch project (1999) 8. Childs play (1988) 7. Paranormal Activity (2007) 6. A nightmare on elm street (1984) 5. Rosemary's Baby (1968) 4. The omen (1976) 3. The ring (2002) 2. Alien (1979) 1. The exorcist (1973)
Am I the only one who sees the Child's Play franchise as more of a comedy/horror rather than something that should make it on a "top 10 scariest" list..? Paranormal Activity shouldn't be on here either, it's extremely pathetic and the ending legitimately made me laugh over how much of a letdown it was. Just because a movie franchise is recognisable and popular does not make it good. I feel like this list was just trying to appeal to the masses rather than people who actually watch horror films...
MichaelangeloMacklin All these site does is pick 10 of something, and randomly order them. Is Paranormal Activity even a horror film? It's got to be the most tedious film ever made. You'd have to be an idiot to enjoy that, and it's listed as #7.
fuzzywzhe It's just conversation Fuzzy. I have nothing to say about "Paranormal Activity", but at the same time, I wouldn't go around calling people who enjoyed a movie I happened to dislike, "idiot[s]". It's a little harsh for the topic.
TWOLF Ravencroft *"I wouldn't go around calling people who enjoyed a movie I happened to dislike, "idiot[s]"."* Well I would. An entirely plotless film shot on cheap video camera, with banal dialog and horrible actors where basically nothing happens for the entire film. The films couldn't cost more than $100,000 to make because nobody is a competent actor in them, there is really no script writer and the editor is obviously a novice.
Apparently the orginal "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" is "one of the most wantonly violent films ever made" which just proves no one who made this has ever seen the movie, since it has almost no gore to speak of AT ALL."
Jonathan Straka i seen it when i was younger also it was so cool to watch the remake when the girl finds out that the killer is her cousin also and she goes and takes care of him
Texas Chainsaw Massacre = Practically no gore, but the fact that it is remembered as gory is a testament to the talent of Tobe Hooper and Kim Henkel. They had to keep the gore toned down as much as possible just to get the film released, so most of it was implied. This balancing act, I believe, played a large part in making the movie such a legend.
Whoever is reading this, I wanted to say I hope you have a great day and that God loves you so much that He sent His son, Jesus, to die on a cross for your sins and He rose again from the dead three days later. God Bless! And also, He doesn't want you to go to Hell, but He wants you to go to Heaven with Him but you have to be Saved. How do I get Saved you might ask? Here are the steps below on how to get Saved! 1. Believe that God sent His Son (Jesus) to die on a cross for your sins and that He rose again from the dead 3 days later. 2. Confess to Jesus that you are a sinner and ask forgiveness for your sins and Turn away from your sins. If you sin again after asking forgiveness of that sin, ask forgiveness again and try not to do it ever again. Jesus will forgive you! 3. Ask Jesus to come into your heart and your life and for Him to be your Lord and Savior forever. 4. Build a Personal Relationship with Jesus by Praying and Reading the Bible daily and Live for Him Forever. I'm Praying for you and you are loved! (Romans 10:9-13))
The original Ring - Creepy, surreal, dreamlike, intense, dripping with atmosphere The shitty remake - Bland, little atmosphere, sanitised, boring Your list - crap.
Kristina Labenski I watched Ringu (the original) a few days ago, and I've got to say, it's the most BORING movie I have ever watched. There were zero scares, I mean, ZERO. No atmosphere at all, it was just non-stop talking and nothing else. It was complete and utter garbage.
If the Exorcist doesn't seem scary now, just remember it was the early 70s and moviegoers never expected to see things like a little girl stabbing her crotch with a cross. Cinema-wise, it was a more innocent time and it was terrifying. Keep some perspective, kids :)
+Meredith Williams Exactly, it was the scariest movie ever THEN, now not so much. Although it is still unsettling and freaky, its not up to par regarding fear with nowadays movies. The movie industry has changed and the general audience has much more tolerance to horror movies, I remember child's play would scare the living out of me, but now its almost a joke and I think to myself how was I ever scared of it.
+Meredith Williams My mum told me that when my uncle watched this for the first time, when it just came out, he couldn't sleep without having the light switched on for two weeks. He's in his 70's now, and still hates it.
The Conjuring needs to be higher on this list. It’s actually pretty scary for a movie It gave me an uneasy feeling. It was entertaining, it was fun to watch, and it was a great movie. Not scary enough where I’m afraid to fall asleep and it actually affects me, because no movie actually dies that for me, but for a movie it’s pretty scary
Is it just me but when in a slasher movie, the killer is given an identity and such, the movie becomes less scarier than a movie what is filmed like the victim experiences it? A good example of a really scary horror movie is the 'Strangers' or 'The Collector', because in these movies the killer is mysterious and the movies are filmed in the eyes of the victims.
I see what you’re getting at, but a good slasher mystery works good if made correctly. Think about it. If you put yourself in the victim’s shoes, you don’t know who the killer is and they may even be close to you. One of the closest people you know is out to get you and they may even be working with another person who’s close to you. You simply can’t trust anybody. Isn’t that just a little bit frightening?
if I was a ghost, I wouldn't push chairs and shit, I would do this: . go to zoo . get a penguin .lift it up to make it look like it was flying what would u do?
If I was a Ghost, I'd protect the people I love, I'd visit their dreams with good news, and tell them how much I miss them, if anything happens to them I'd fck up the people who did it. If ghosts could time travel to the past to watch it, I'd watch myself grow up to see what I did with my life and relieve old memories. That would also explain the haunting I had a year or two back where I had a Ghost watch me at random points, usually when I wake up for a few seconds or one of those shadows you see but theres nothing there. Also, I'd watch people do it because banter
10. Texas chainsaw massacre 1974 9. The blair witch project 1999 8. Child's play 1988 7. Paranormal activity 2007 6. A nightmare on elm 1984 Street 5. Rosemarry 's baby 1968 4. The Omen 1976 3. The Ring 2002 2. Alien 1979 1. The exorcist 1973 *Honorable mention* The Decent 2005, The grudge 2004, Halloween 1978, The conjuring 2013, The strangers 2008.
I’ve watched the Blair Witch Project. It’s actually pretty creepy and scary. The fact that you can’t see the monster, makes it even more creepy. I’ve watched it like 2-3 times. The ending though, is most definitely the creepiest though .
not you. all of these movies pale in comparison to some actual scary foreign horror films. just putting two found films (blair and pa) into this just shows they dont know scary. I fell asleep on P.activity And blair witch, me and my mom watched chucky when i was a kid and laughed like it was comedy, none of these are scary really. Alien is more scifi than horror so who even knows why it's here. Alien, Omen, and Exorcist are the only movies on this list that are actually good though. And all the honorable mentions (which were all good) should have made it into the Actual list. They did this list so backward...ugh
Pewdiepie proved this theory in a sense, he reviews their top 10 Pewdiepie video and they chose the top 10 most viewed, proving that little research is done
Mc7yson I was 17 when my friend made me watch it with her. The original Japanese version. People thought they were safe in their own bed hiding under the covers. ...And then this movie happened.
Yep, watched both English and Japanese when I was little and my sis snuck up on me while I was watching to grab my leg... I'm still afraid and she knows it
That was as surprising as seeing the Blair Witch Project and Paranormal Activity included. Two others I would like to know why they didn't include are Poltergeist and Psycho?
Kyle Donaldson I think it is one of the shitty horror movies. Not that there are many horror movies these days that I think are actually scary. The only one that gets me is the Grudge. I'll be scared of the dark for days. There was 'evil dead' I think, that was pretty good aswell.
Lennart I liked Evil Dead , both versions, but that wasn't scary at all for me. Evil Dead was a better movie but Paranormal still creeped me out way more. Maybe because it looked like the inside of my own house.
Derps McSwagston Was originally introduced on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. Ed McMahon always introduced him like that....."Heeerrrreeee's Johnny."
Derps McSwagston wow when you start a comment chain with "But seriously, that movie gave birth to the most famous line in horror history; "Here's Johnny!" then seem completely obtuse of how this comment doesnt make any sense
Sinister is the scariest movie I have ever watched. The score was absolutely terrifying, each tape was disturbing to watch, and it was an overall great movie.
sininster would have been awesome.. it actually scared the hell out of me.. I just hated those kids acting.. they are not scary at all.. and the ending was horrible especially the part when they all showed up on the screen.. I really thought they were going to dance or something..
Here's my personal list: 10: It: Chapter One 9: Scream 8: 28 Days Later 7: Alien 6: Psycho 5: The Shining 4: Hellraiser 3: Halloween 2: A Nightmare on Elm Street 1: The Exorcist Note: For the films with remakes, I am referring to the originals. Also, this isn't a list of my favorite horror films, just the ones that scared me most.
I actually got quite worked up during classic horrors like 'Psycho' and 'The Birds' but I'm not that bothered by more modern films. I guess in older movies, a lot of it was building up suspense and anxiety whereas modern day movies are just jumpscare after jumpscare.
REALGz23 Me I can't stand horror movies that are basic franchises, and just rely on nothing but the jumpscare and lay it so thick on the gore factor as to be laughable and cheap looking CGI like a SyFy channel production. But then the last movies I saw that scared me were probably 'The Devil's Backbone' & 'Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer'.
Shut the fuck up. None of those movies are actually scary. Just because it's older doesn't mean it's better. You are just trying to be some hipster who thinks that everything new sucks
caleb dickson It doesn't mean it's better, but it often is when you get right down to it. In any case which new movie was all that scary and had the same sort of impact that Psycho did when it first came out? Without Hitch's take on Robert Bloch's story and the Ed Gein killings we would never have had The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Halloween, Silence of the Lambs, not to mention all of the other franchise slasher flicks over the decades. (but I can forgive Hitch for those last ones)
***** :-P Saw doesn't hold a candle to the original Psycho or The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Plus Jigsaw became more and more of a cliche by the seventh movie unlike Anthony Perkins who even though Norman Bates went through the sequel machine, You could always feel sympathy for the poor bastard.
half of these movies aren't even scary in the slightest, they just chose the most iconic movies to appease the wider audience. this is why watchmojo is such a joke
Most of these weren't scary, just classics. Just because something is a classic, doesn't mean it's good. I myself prefer plausible movies, movies that build suspense that could actually happen. Prisoners anyone? Movies like that. Exorcist, Nightmare on Elm Street, etc aren't scary. Maybe in the 80s. But not today
The classics introduced a new type of genre at their time. They scared the shit out of people who have never seen a horror movie. Before they had "The Exorcist" they had "The Blob". These movies might not seem scary to us because we have been desensitized to them but they shocked audiences when they were first released. Caleb Hamm is right about "Nightmare on Elm Street". "The Exorcist" was also inspired by true event. Also, reportedly, a lot of freaky things happened on the set of "The Exorcist" while filming the movie.
Interestingly, there was very little onscreen slashing as such. However, some of the acting more than made up for it, especially that horrific scene where Pam is hauled off by Leatherface to be hung on the hook in the kitchen. Shit! that freaked me out the first time I saw it, and that had to wait until I was in my 30s. The other scene that just kicks serious ass is the very end, with Leatherface alone doing that twirl with the chainsaw.
BioWench You're absolutely right. I am going to watch it eventually with my mum, even though I'm very sensitive to gory content. So obviously, old school horror films, and Netflix ones, are the scary movies that give me the chills.
We live on a small dust particle in a little system in a small galaxy of endless infinity of countless probabilities and yet, there are people who claim that they believe or don't believe in something. That, my friends, is the definition of words "Fucking stupid".
agreed. The laws of probability alone state that intelligent life is definitely out there. where I usually disagree is on whether or not they would visit us. We cant even get along with people of our own species if they have a different skin color and we start wars over greed and use esoteric religion to justify it. Also when they do visit.. presumably after traveling light years away... they mutilate livestock, anal probe corn farmers, draw weird shit in the crops and go home? not the mark of a society that has mastered intergalactic travel. I'm not even that smart and even i would see the dickstorm that is our world and be like "fuck that".
I though shining was scary without jumpscares or scary scenes. It was more about the atmosphere and the evolution of the guy ( forgot his name) and how he became a pshycho when they were locked up. Made a mistake watching it at 2 in the morning though with the lights of.
As an atheist, I feel kinda turned down by this list, since I don't believe in any of these and therefore I don't get scared by it. That's why Silence of the Lambs is my favorite horror movie, for it's a entirely possible escenario. Plus, Hannibal lecter is my favourite fiction character
***** Fair enough, but aliens are not only a possibility, they are an actual mathematical fact, and still I find no reason to be afraid of them, because it all comes down to 2 possibilities: they are less developed than us (ranging from microbiotic life forms to neanderthal-like creatures) or they're more developed than us, and if they are developed enough to space travel from other galaxies, they're developed enough for not to resource on violence. And I'm not saying you have to be religious to be scared of the movies, I'm saying that since I don't believe in the supernatural, I am not. To put an example: Since I don't believe in demons, Paranormal Activity does not scare me, the same way The Walking Dead does not scare since I don't think zombies are a possibility (at least not that kind of zombies), or Bram Stoker's Dracula doesn't scare me since I know vampires are not real. What might scare me? Stephen King's The Stand for example: A virus that wipes out 99% of world's population, leaving the survivors struggling for survival. This is, however, my opinion, so I guess we can agree to disagree
Jose Rivera I'm exactly the same way, Rosemary's Baby, the Omen and the Exorcist do nothing for me because it seems like the crux of their scares solely depends on people's beliefs in the supernatural.
The thing everyone misses is that You have to think how scary the films was for its time. Some films isn’t really scary in today standard but when they came out, yeah You get it.
Spongebob0209 first of all the conjuring is boring until the last 30 minutes and second it isn’t scary, if you’re scared of it, you’re a pussy (considering you have SpongeBob in your name) and last of all it’s a 70s film; it’s lost it’s scariness!
Because Blum house is a shit studio who have had a really negative impact on the genre (except for hereditary, which was shared with another studio) and I hold them responsible for what the genre has become
Okay let's see what you missed out Friday the 13th 28 days/weeks later Jaws (for at its time) Insidious Sinister (creepy) The shining The crazies Scream (any sequel but 3 & 4) Evil dead Arachnophobia Saw (creepy) Devil The thing The fly And finally JUSTIN BIEBER NEVER SAY NEVER
friday the 23th, 28 days/weeks later, scream, devil and saw...aren't really what I'd consider some of the "scariest horror movies"...and I mean a Justin Bieber joke...its 2014...your like 5 years too late...
Arachnophobia? That's really only scary if you suffer from the phobia from which the film takes it's name. Plus Sinister was awful, not scary in the least
My Top 10 and their ranks (Only My Opinion) 10. 1408 (5/10) - It was ok 9. Jeepers Creepers (6/10) - Not bad 8. Children of the corn (6/10) - Interesting story 7. Wrong Turn”s” (7/10) - Always pulls me in 6. Misery (8/10) - Grew up on this one 5. The Descent (8/10) - Unique and different 4. Insidious (8/10) - Gave me chills 3. The Conjuring (9/10) Threw popcorn in theater 2. The Conjuring 2 (10/10) Shit myself 1. The Exorcist (10/10) - Still haunts me as an adult Once again, just my opinion (:
UndíZpúted SeiF Damn haha, i remember watching child's play 2 when i was about 10. And i thought it was scary as fuck. But now it's one of my favourite horror movies
I find it weird that death, pain and torture doesn't constitute as horror anymore. I'm more scared of a crazy bill on my credit card, my ever so loving aunt who saved my life (in a way) from seeing smoking. Being randomly evicted because my landlord doesn't like something, being fired, the revenue agency screwing up my taxes and wanting too much money back, the Asians in my neighbourhood paying more than "asking price" for houses in my town, then walking around judging me even if THEY are off the boat, getting anything cosmetic by someone considered attractive, someone looking in your eyes for no reason as you walk by, being asked why you are sweating when it isn't hot, having anything pertaining to your ego being questioned...
Have you ever seen the movie Splinter? I don't find movies like Texas Chainsaw Massacre or Friday the 13th movies scary, I find them overly exciting and like action movies. That might mean I'm a little fucked up in the head, but anyway...Movies like Splinter, Grudge, and similar movies like that are probably some of the better horror films I've ever seen.
My Top 10 horror-movies of all time: 1. Exorcist, W. Friedkin 2.The Omen, Gregory Peck & Lee Remick 3. Amytiville Horror, 1979, James Brolin, Margot Kidder 4.The Thing, 1982, John Carpenter 5.Halloween, 1978, John Carpenter 6. Shining, 1980, Stanley Kubrick 7.Psycho, 1960, Alfred Hitchcock 8.Alien, 1979, Ridley Scott 9. Blair Witch Project, 1999 10. Rosemary´s baby, 1968, John Cassavetes, Mia Farrow.
the thing was crap, the original and the remake, the most scary scene was when the dudes chest burst open to reveal a mouth and even the it isnt scary, niether is alien, alien is an overrated series
The Thing is scary because it intersperses the crazy horrible creature scenes with a growing sense of paranoia coupled with the very real sense of arctic isolation. It's the scenes where people wonder who they can still touch that give the movie its tenseness.
The real top10 is: 1 The Exorcist 2 Psycho 3 It(2017)/It:Chapter 2 4 Babadook 5 The Conjuring 6 A Nightmare on Elm Street 7 Alien 8 Paranormal Activity 9 Shining 10 Halloween
I haven't seen it. The idea of Chucky low-key traumatized me as a little kid, but when I actually saw clips of the movie and shit, I got over it immediately, because it was so ridiculous.
Younger people wouldn't realize this, that horror and sex was not that out in the open when some of these movies were made. As an example 'The Texas Chainsaw Massacre' became an almost instant cult 'classic' only because it was just open gore and a taboo subject (cannibalism) . Lets face it, it's not that great as a stand alone movie, it was just truly shocking at that time, if that was made today, hardly anyone would bat an eyelid . Almost nothing scares anyone anymore, reality is more scary these days anyway. Hopefully a few can still come up with outstanding scripts and great ideas for future horror movies ? Getting hard to see what it would be about though?
No true, the 70s grindhouse cinema were full of violence, sex, cruelty, torture. There was a whole genre of cannibalism movies coming out of the 70s. American releases are pretty tame today by comparison.
I saw The Conjuring, and it wasn't that scary. Don't get me wrong, it was a good movie, but I didn't really become truly afraid by it at any point. The ending was creepy though
aenjgeal Are you frickin kidding me?? What about the part where she's looking for the demon through the little mirror? Or playing clap and hide? Or the girl starting at the demon at the other end of the room behind the door? Or the exorcism without the aid of a priest? Or anabelle outside of her case? WHY?!
Captain Crunch I don't know it just... didn't scare me. Maybe it's because I watched it in the day or I just over-hyped it for myself, but I just didn't find it scary. The ending with Anabelle in the little toy mirror was a bit unnerving, but the rest of the movie wasn't very scary at all...
Azus Mohamed It was a decent film, I can't think of anything the movie did that was wrong in any way, but I just wasn't scared by it. The ending with Anabelle was the only thing that came close to scaring me, and that just creeped me out a little. Other than that, it was a decent flick, just not scary :/
My top 10 10: Halloween (1978) 9: The Descent (2005) 8: A Nightmare on Elm Street (1984) 7: Conjouring (2012) 6: It Chapter 2 (2019) 5: Texas chainsaw massacre 2 (1986) 4: The Grudge (2004) 3: The Thing (1982) 2: Scream (1996) 1: The Exorcist (1973) Honourable mentions: Ring Final Destination 1, 2 The Mist Saw 1 The Texas chainsaw massacre 1 Child's play Reanimator both from 1985&2003
+TheUhOhOreo Everyone that thinks the shining is scary has worse mental issues than the guy in the film because theres not one scene in the film which is even slightly scary
Paranormal activity was the dumbest horror movie I ever saw in my life, I mean seriously the entire movie involved a couple chairs and doors moving and in the end the woman got possessed.
Yes thank you somebody agrees with me those are horrible movies as bad as twilight never seen one paranormal activity or twilight but hey both franchises are horrible
+Elephant Yeah you're i right. I watched the movie with some friend and they told me: "You gotta see this movie it's so scary." I watched it with them in the cinema and i nearly fell asleep.
Oldman Wells It does not suck, it's a good concept, but not scary you're right. Found footage is , well, anti-cinematic at least...I think that as a genre there's only a few that are good: Cannibal holocaust, The Blair witch project, Rec (the original Spanish version) Troll Hunter, Diary of the dead, Chronicle, Cloverfield, The Bay, The last exorcism, and Paranormal activity is a good one...But for most of all it's a gimmick to cover a tiny budget..
I feel like most older movies are a whole lot scarier but don’t need that much gore or any jump scares. (Alien, the omen, the exorcist, Texas chainsaw massacre)
MrShiffles Gaming not always it is different for all people some peeps will be in shock, some will be silent, and some will be strong. Everyone has a certain way of reacting to being scared
It’s also an exceptionally good film in its own right. I think that’s why it still has such impact; there is a documentary credibility about it that the other films don’t have. It really gets under your skin because it never fully plunges you into an imaginary realm - it flits between awful terror and stark realism all the way through.
It’s not in the least “cheesy”. It’s a landmark masterpiece that has deserved its iconic status. Critically acclaimed then and now with 10 Oscar nominations including best picture. It will maintain this prestigious status long after we are gone.
@@tjfSIM It really doesn't, possessions are as far as possible from realism. This horror genre is quite ridiculous to me but I get why it was so iconic at the time.
The grudge is probably the scariest movie I’ve ever seen. It stuck with me for almost 10 years of nightmares and not being able to stay at other peoples houses and barely sleep at my own. I still won’t watch it and close my eyes when a clip of it comes up.🤣
The grudge did nothing for me. But The Ring scared the shit out of me. Like now I know if i have kids, I definitely need to marry a dark skinned woman. Can't have no creepy little white girl roaming the halls of my house at night.
Picking exorcist is a cliche choice. Exorcist is pretty boring and unscary imho. I am not a bad ass who is afraid of nothing but Exorcist is overrated.
it's because you guys are kids/very young. When the time it came out, it was the FIRST movie like that of its kind so you have to give credit to it. Now you've seen things after it copied it to death and more gruesome stuff so it looks like nothing, but it paved the way for all the horror films out there.
Hanne Clausen I'm not saying it's a bad movie... Just because it was the first of it's kind doesn't mean it's the scariest, so please get your head out of your ass. If you have noticed, the title of this list is "Top 10 Scariest Horror Movies." The Exorsist is not the scariest horror movie. It's a good movie and a classic regardless of genre, but it just isn't scary. Maybe it was scary 40 years ago, but it is not the scariest anymore. Creepy and somewhat disturbing, but it's not worthy of the #1-spot on every top scariest movie lists that exist....
The neither the "original" The ring or the grudge are the originals at all, the Ring is based on a novel with had a previous film adaptation for TV (its on TH-cam some where) and the grudge its a remake of a previous film of the same director. They are pretty good movies but as Japanese horror films go, I would say Kairo (Pulse) its the best.
Yeah it's more sci-fi than anything but I guess it does have jump scares so yeah. I grew up on alien btw. Used to be my favorite movie when I was 6 😂😂😂
Alien functions like a slasher film set in space... with gruesome death scenes and a final girl surviving... and features some pretty horrific death scenes
+Luis Rivero lol the book was the scariest thing i ever read but the movie was the stupidest ive ever seen. the movie is being remade though. im so excited
To be honest, there really is no such thing as a scary movie for most people. Horror movies provide entertainment, but it's a different form of entertainment. The last time a movie really "scared" me was before I was even a teenager. I've been an avid horror movie fan since, but I don't understand people who say they dislike horror movies because none of them are actually scary. You're not special-most others aren't scared, either. They're entertained.
I laugh at alot of these horror movies only a couple stick with you in your house when youre alone and in the dark. I know the soundtrack for insidious made my skin crawl
Yeah, I love horror movies, but I've never been scared by them. Well, at least not since I hit double digits. It's the rules that make it impossible to be scared by them. I didn't live on Elm Street, I never went to Camp Crystal Lake, I wasn't related to Michael Myers, I didn't own a Good Guy doll, etc. There were always specific circumstances involved with these horror films, and I reasoned that if I didn't fit the criteria, I was safe.
dandycliff2 agree. It originally came out before I was even born but man the nightmares I had as a kid from that movie. still scares me today. They only other one than that did it for me was dead space downfall. just the suspense helped elevate the scariness. great stuff
dandycliff2 That movie still creeps me the fuck out. The isolation. The paranoia and distrust. With a horrific alien parasite trying to penetrate & replicate you all the while. BAH! That music, the simple ::bum-bum--bum-bum:: added a lot to the atmosphere as well. Great cast and one of Kurt Russell's better performances too. It's a sci-fi/horror masterpiece.
There is a fine line between scary and disgusting.
There is fine line, between love and illusion!
doto player spotted
actually horror is also disgusting
Kazekage Gaara that is so true
Griffin Lamp I like your icon lol
Everybody gangsta till is says based on a true story
YES IKR IT MAKES IT SO MUCH SCARIER
Rob Russell well some movies are, paranormal stuff do happen
Rob Russell that’s what you may think but tbh I don’t really see it in that perspective,

Halsi nah that movie is to fucked up for TH-cam

Chucky is a comedy. But, times were different back Then. My mom was scared as fuck after watching Childs Play in the movies. Watching Chucky today is just pure fun.
Classic
Hello a problem I occasionally have with comments has happened with this comment instead of talking about chucky ( as I saw when I was commenting this) it was about the line from horrible historys Kings song
CHILD PLAY IS COMDEY ITS NOT SCARY AT ALL
Well ya cause it's like 40 years old lol
Big facts I love child's play
I look at them as horror classics!
The cost of a movie ticket is the scariest thing about any movie.
Bites Random i went to the movies and a small popcorn for 20$
Bites Random
Here's some suggestions, for anyone who's interested..go to a matinee, tix are USUALLY $3- $4 cheaper..go to a drive-in (yes, they still exist) watch some trailers a few weeks ahead of time, invite a bunch of ppl..use one car..,go to a $ store..or a five & under-bring own snacks!
Bites Random For me, next week is what is scarier... (I have like 8-9 exams).

Of "the scariest movie"?
Karen Shaub lmao right
You must not have been a kid in the 80s?
At first the childs plays weren't that scary. But nowadays they've been making the ones with 'chucky' in the titles scarier
It’s not the movie but the idea of a killer toy
Karen Shaub "scariest movie monster"*
Am I the only one who sees the Child's Play franchise as more of a comedy/horror rather than something that should make it on a "top 10 scariest" list..? Paranormal Activity shouldn't be on here either, it's extremely pathetic and the ending legitimately made me laugh over how much of a letdown it was. Just because a movie franchise is recognisable and popular does not make it good. I feel like this list was just trying to appeal to the masses rather than people who actually watch horror films...
No your not alone
I can feel your sentiments.

MichaelangeloMacklin I certainly agree
MichaelangeloMacklin All these site does is pick 10 of something, and randomly order them. Is Paranormal Activity even a horror film? It's got to be the most tedious film ever made. You'd have to be an idiot to enjoy that, and it's listed as #7.
fuzzywzhe It's just conversation Fuzzy. I have nothing to say about "Paranormal Activity", but at the same time, I wouldn't go around calling people who enjoyed a movie I happened to dislike, "idiot[s]". It's a little harsh for the topic.
TWOLF Ravencroft *"I wouldn't go around calling people who enjoyed a movie I happened to dislike, "idiot[s]"."*
Well I would.
An entirely plotless film shot on cheap video camera, with banal dialog and horrible actors where basically nothing happens for the entire film.
The films couldn't cost more than $100,000 to make because nobody is a competent actor in them, there is really no script writer and the editor is obviously a novice.
Cool....It did scare a lot of people.
Apparently the orginal "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" is "one of the most wantonly violent films ever made" which just proves no one who made this has ever seen the movie, since it has almost no gore to speak of AT ALL."
Jonathan Straka i seen it when i was younger also it was so cool to watch the remake when the girl finds out that the killer is her cousin also and she goes and takes care of him
the new version was pretty awesome also
My brother jumped up a bit when we first the new remake of the Texas Chain Saw Massicure
The scary part is that is was based on a true story.
Snake Man No, it's not. It was loosely based on Ed Gein.
1. Believe that God sent His Son
(Jesus) to die on a cross for your sins and that He rose again from the dead 3 days later.

The remake is still scarier than Jeff the Killer
I still can't watch the remake without falling asleep. Fail!
Then you're strange ;)
The original Ring is the best way to fall asleep.
Kristina Labenski I watched Ringu (the original) a few days ago, and I've got to say, it's the most BORING movie I have ever watched. There were zero scares, I mean, ZERO. No atmosphere at all, it was just non-stop talking and nothing else. It was complete and utter garbage.

Seriously, he could have moved. Instead he stood there screaming "NOOOOOOOO" like maybe God would move that spear. Um, no

For fucks sake man move 4 inches to the right and you would he fine.
Watch the film Come and See. I wouldn't watch it again it's quite disturbing.
Conjuring is scary cause it's based on a true story that's what gave my an uneasy feeling
The conjuring was scary ? Definately no
@@TonyStark-cf6fq To some people it was. I thought it was a great film
I agree much more scarier than chunky
Is it just me but when in a slasher movie, the killer is given an identity and such, the movie becomes less scarier
than a movie what is filmed like the victim experiences it?
A good example of a really scary horror movie is the 'Strangers' or 'The Collector', because in these movies the
killer is mysterious and the movies are filmed in the eyes of the victims.
that's why hush is good
They're not scary movies, though.
Zer0 Unless of course the villain is someone with a terrifying reputation, such as Satan. To some people at least.
The first half of Strangers is creepy as fuck..the second half sucks though
I see what you’re getting at, but a good slasher mystery works good if made correctly. Think about it. If you put yourself in the victim’s shoes, you don’t know who the killer is and they may even be close to you. One of the closest people you know is out to get you and they may even be working with another person who’s close to you. You simply can’t trust anybody. Isn’t that just a little bit frightening?
if I was a ghost, I wouldn't push chairs and shit, I would do this:

If I was a Ghost, I'd protect the people I love, I'd visit their dreams with good news, and tell them how much I miss them, if anything happens to them I'd fck up the people who did it. If ghosts could time travel to the past to watch it, I'd watch myself grow up to see what I did with my life and relieve old memories. That would also explain the haunting I had a year or two back where I had a Ghost watch me at random points, usually when I wake up for a few seconds or one of those shadows you see but theres nothing there.

The top 2 make sense
I’ve watched the Blair Witch Project. It’s actually pretty creepy and scary. The fact that you can’t see the monster, makes it even more creepy. I’ve watched it like 2-3 times. The ending though, is most definitely the creepiest though .
Is it just me or all of these not scary but just popular in mainstream
not you. all of these movies pale in comparison to some actual scary foreign horror films. just putting two found films (blair and pa) into this just shows they dont know scary.
Sonny H I'm afraid opinion lists are not made to your standards but are rather subjective. And in its time these movies were horribly scary.
+Sonny H Exactly! I watched an Italian horror movie the other night "Suspiria", it literally had me freaked out. Now I'm just laughing at this list ^^

Why no sinister
The shining is more of a artsy kind of movie while being a horror movie at the same time
Yeah ik it’s confusing
I wouldn’t count that as a horror to be honest it’s not really scary it’s more of a slasher movie
Oh come on, Paranormal Activity was not scary at all. I fell asleep during that movie.
Glad I'm not the only one
Lennart i thought it was scarier than most shitty horror movies coming out. That one got me more than the average campy flick. Just me though .
Kyle Donaldson yea when it reminds you of your own house it's 'one ticket on the nope train please'.
*cough cough* The Shining

In any case which new movie was all that scary and had the same sort of impact that Psycho
did when it first came out?
Without Hitch's take on Robert Bloch's story and the Ed Gein killings we would never have had The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Halloween, Silence of the Lambs, not to mention all of the other franchise slasher flicks over the decades.
(but I can forgive Hitch for those last ones)

Saw doesn't hold a candle to the original Psycho or The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Plus Jigsaw became more and more of a cliche by the seventh movie unlike Anthony Perkins who even though Norman Bates went through the sequel machine, You could always feel sympathy for the poor bastard.

But not today
to you
thebigbadone1234 If you think those are scary, you're either 2-10, or just really stupid.
Prisoners is one of the most thrilling and one of the greatest films I've seen to date. Incredibly underrated.
***** mhmm, keep telling yourself that kiddo
The classics introduced a new type of genre at their time. They scared the shit out of people who have never seen a horror movie. Before they had "The Exorcist" they had "The Blob". These movies might not seem scary to us because we have been desensitized to them but they shocked audiences when they were first released. Caleb Hamm is right about "Nightmare on Elm Street". "The Exorcist" was also inspired by true event. Also, reportedly, a lot of freaky things happened on the set of "The Exorcist" while filming the movie.
The original Texas Chainsaw Massacre is less of a slasher and more of a horror art piece.
That's cuz it's not a slasher movie its a sawer movie
agreed
BioWench You're absolutely right. I am going to watch it eventually with my mum, even though I'm very sensitive to gory content. So obviously, old school horror films, and Netflix ones, are the scary movies that give me the chills.

We live on a small dust particle in a little system in a small galaxy of endless infinity of countless probabilities and yet, there are people who claim that they believe or don't believe in something. That, my friends, is the definition of words "Fucking stupid".
very true

As an atheist, I feel kinda turned down by this list, since I don't believe in any of these and therefore I don't get scared by it. That's why Silence of the Lambs is my favorite horror movie, for it's a entirely possible escenario. Plus, Hannibal lecter is my favourite fiction character
Facepalm -_-
***** Ok, that's a proposition, care to elaborate in the arguments that sustain it?
Agreed and sweet profile picture.
The thing everyone misses is that You have to think how scary the films was for its time. Some films isn’t really scary in today standard but when they came out, yeah You get it.
How tf is the conjuring just an honorable mention?
Spongebob0209 first of all the conjuring is boring until the last 30 minutes and second it isn’t scary, if you’re scared of it, you’re a pussy (considering you have SpongeBob in your name) and last of all it’s a 70s film; it’s lost it’s scariness!
Because it's too stereotypical and predictable, maybe.

Chucky is funny, not scary.
I laughed my ass off during that movie. I agree entirely
True
Lol not to our parents it wasn't
UndíZpúted SeiF Not as a kid lol
A knock on the door, a phone ring...
Seeing a time on your alarm clock of when you should already be at work..
If this massacre doesn't chill you to your very core, we don't know what will
How about the next nine of them, maybe
+Andrew Rhys That is the exaxt same thing I said LMAO
hah! I thought the same thing
even as a kid, it made me laugh 😂 love them but they are funny to me. The remake was actually scarier IMO.
The Shining should be on this list! Scene with the woman in bathtub scared the living piss out of me!
I saw the shining and didn’t find it that scary
Of course not The Shining, Psycho, Silence of the Lambs, no how about The Boring Witch Project? That's a good list.
Ya wth the silence of the lambs friking scary
Harry, "The Blair Witch Project" was absolute rubbish! To call it "boring" would be some compliment!
WHY IS NOBODY TALKING ABOUT THE THING
Harry The Sailor the shining and psycho are boring as hell you can’t count a movie when 90% of its viewers fall asleep halfway through it tf
@@potatoking4227 How about the remake of The Fly?
Jaws?
Dead Ringers?
The list goes on.

So they're all trash cuz all movies before 2000's are not scary at all.
@@steviejrr watch the thing from 1982.
As a Catholic, Rosemary's Baby, The Omen and The Exorcist ALL scared the HELL out of me as a child. 😨
So does premarital sex and nuns with yardsticks.
...or so I am told.
Ihuhbjg Fjyfjvjhj Rosemary's baby is a classic
Init 😂 scary as fuck
So does reality I'm sure.
you should be more scared of your priest lol
Alien is one of the scariest films I've ever seen, the chest burster scene will forever be engraved into my brain
Top 10 most popular horror movies*
Haha so true. And also, probably most overrated.
@@UmiiGore Alien ain`t overrated. Its awesome movie
John Carpenter's The Thing not only belongs on this list it should have been #1
Agree
Holy fuck don't remind me....
The Thing and Alien should share the 1st place.
the thing was crap, the original and the remake, the most scary scene was when the dudes chest burst open to reveal a mouth and even the it isnt scary, niether is alien, alien is an overrated series
The Thing is scary because it intersperses the crazy horrible creature scenes with a growing sense of paranoia coupled with the very real sense of arctic isolation. It's the scenes where people wonder who they can still touch that give the movie its tenseness.
wheres shrek?
Shrek is yeet:)
Rashad Mcfarlin it was a joke you dumbclutz

I watch child's play as a comedy
AntacidCarcass it scared me my grandpa was watching it aaaaaaaaaaah
AntacidCarcass the first child's play it's pretty creepy actually. Great horror film
Fabian69 I've actually watched the whole series
AntacidCarcass me too the other ones weren't really scary but good movies except child's play three and seed of Chucky hated those two movies
100% agree.
aenjgeal Are you frickin kidding me?? What about the part where she's looking for the demon through the little mirror? Or playing clap and hide? Or the girl starting at the demon at the other end of the room behind the door? Or the exorcism without the aid of a priest? Or anabelle outside of her case? WHY?!
Captain Crunch I don't know it just... didn't scare me. Maybe it's because I watched it in the day or I just over-hyped it for myself, but I just didn't find it scary. The ending with Anabelle in the little toy mirror was a bit unnerving, but the rest of the movie wasn't very scary at all...
Yeah man , the conjuring is one of the scariest films
Azus Mohamed It was a decent film, I can't think of anything the movie did that was wrong in any way, but I just wasn't scared by it. The ending with Anabelle was the only thing that came close to scaring me, and that just creeped me out a little. Other than that, it was a decent flick, just not scary :/

The excorcist? WTFFFFF.... A girl tied in a bed and nothing happening. How Tf is that scary? Worst horror movie I've ever watched
The lack of The Shining
And alien at #2 ? Yeah wtf where is it ?
TheWarrior Teddy Alien deserves to be there. Alien is an incredible horror film.
+TheUhOhOreo yeah it does... BUT STILL WHERE THE FUCK IS THE SHINING ?!
shining is a great film that goes slow and because of its slow at first pace it makes it horrifying to see the deterioration of the fathers mind.
Watched the third one with my cousin. It went something like this.
"Do you see that right there!"
"Yeah. Saw it the last several nights too. *Yawn"
+Elephant Man that film is so dumb!!! You´re so damn right
Yes thank you somebody agrees with me those are horrible movies as bad as twilight never seen one paranormal activity or twilight but hey both franchises are horrible
If you havn't seen them you're not missing anything, trust me, they are. the commercials are extremely missleading
+Elephant Yeah you're i right. I watched the movie with some friend and they told me: "You gotta see this movie it's so scary." I watched it with them in the cinema and i nearly fell asleep.
Paranormal Activity sucked. I went to the theater and was mystified that people were actually scared.
Daniel Simard What I should have said is that it doesn't belong in the top ten.
Well, you're rigth...
Oldman Wells I went to see it... at the end, looked at my friend and we started laughing out loud while leaving the cinema... it's sucks so much.
SoulRippster Yes.
I feel like most older movies are a whole lot scarier but don’t need that much gore or any jump scares. (Alien, the omen, the exorcist, Texas chainsaw massacre)
I always thought Child's Play just looked silly.
Metaphysical Resonance the sequels are but not the original curse and cult
Paranormal is overrated, I can even remember anything scary in it apart from that one jump scare at the end and even that sucked
I thought the first one was quite creepy and original (at the time) but the sequels were just awful!
People like paranormal activity because no other horror film does it like they do.
Even the first one was a disappointment. Nothing scary happens and when something is going to happen it telegraphs it with that stupid low rumble....
The sequel is better
7:17 that guy was so stupid. He could just step out of the way ლ(ಠ益ಠლ)
(Edit) JEEZ!!! I have not got this many likes before. thx alot tho
Director is stupid lol
when you are about to die or scared you are in shock and you cant move
MrShiffles Gaming not always it is different for all people some peeps will be in shock, some will be silent, and some will be strong. Everyone has a certain way of reacting to being scared
MrShiffles Gaming - No, Not all the people. Like that priest, he has to be strong and face his fears to be a priest.

The exorcist will never be topped, never fails to send me the chills, absolutely traumatised me as a kid😨😅
It’s also an exceptionally good film in its own right. I think that’s why it still has such impact; there is a documentary credibility about it that the other films don’t have. It really gets under your skin because it never fully plunges you into an imaginary realm - it flits between awful terror and stark realism all the way through.
I laugh at The Exorcist. So cheesy today.
I got a scar in my soul after watching "The Hallow" a years back. This movie is scary af
I still won’t watch it and close my eyes when a clip of it comes up.🤣
Same. Scariest movies for me is between The Grudge and Candyman. The Ring,28 days later, What Lies Beneath were really good ones too.
I was deathly afraid as a kid & I'm literally about to rent it & see if it still scares the hell outta me
@@TheDoctorOfMDMA did it still to this day scare you?
The grudge did nothing for me. But The Ring scared the shit out of me. Like now I know if i have kids, I definitely need to marry a dark skinned woman. Can't have no creepy little white girl roaming the halls of my house at night.
The Grudge was that bad?! 😭 I still haven’t seen it
My top 3:
3.The orphanage
2.The Devil Inside
1.Justin Bieber's Never say never (Still haunts my dreams till this day)

i think so to
Yeah add It to the List
Very true
I was fucking 10 when i watched the first one and i was fine
I was around 10 when I watched the first one too. Didn't scare me at all.
Alien is horrifying because the crew have no power.
childs play aint scary, its funny lel
I know, haha.
Exactly right my friend
True. Lol.
dammit, ya beat me to it. was just about to comment that.
bride of chucky and seed of chucky were comical...one thru three were serious films
Picking exorcist is a cliche choice. Exorcist is pretty boring and unscary imho. I am not a bad ass who is afraid of nothing but Exorcist is overrated.
Yeah I totally agree with you bro. Not to say it wasnt enoyable.
Every fucking "scariest horror movie"-list has The Exorsist on top. It's so annoying!
it's because you guys are kids/very young. When the time it came out, it was the FIRST movie like that of its kind so you have to give credit to it. Now you've seen things after it copied it to death and more gruesome stuff so it looks like nothing, but it paved the way for all the horror films out there.
I was just about to say that. I thought some parts were funny actually, like when she projectile vomitted all over the priest
Tbh the original Japanese versions of The Ring and The Grudge are scarier than all of the movies on this list COMBINED.
The neither the "original" The ring or the grudge are the originals at all, the Ring is based on a novel with had a previous film adaptation for TV (its on TH-cam some where) and the grudge its a remake of a previous film of the same director. They are pretty good movies but as Japanese horror films go, I would say Kairo (Pulse) its the best.
agreed...22 age and i still.are not capable.of watching.the grudge ever again...in any versioin
No besides they were both kinda stolen from the excorcist
TuccTownLaydii you never seen Texas Chainsaw Massacre
TuccTownLaydii
You've never even seen the exorcist lmao watch all these movies then gtf back here.
Horror films are only "scary" if they're seen late at night all alone in a dark little room in an abandoned house
When i watched alien i didn't even know it was a horror movie.🤔
Yeah it's more sci-fi than anything but I guess it does have jump scares so yeah. I grew up on alien btw. Used to be my favorite movie when I was 6 😂😂😂
Same.
Alien functions like a slasher film set in space... with gruesome death scenes and a final girl surviving... and features some pretty horrific death scenes
It isn't just a horror movie it is the best horror movie of all time.
@@TheUnyieldingHunter-st2dx it's horrifying upon first viewing

well wikipedia can be changed. its been like like 10 years since ive read that book and i dont remember no preteen orgy.
Harrison Huff Oh ok, I was excited to read it, oh well...
jk, I'm not a pedo

To be honest, there really is no such thing as a scary movie for most people. Horror movies provide entertainment, but it's a different form of entertainment. The last time a movie really "scared" me was before I was even a teenager. I've been an avid horror movie fan since, but I don't understand people who say they dislike horror movies because none of them are actually scary. You're not special-most others aren't scared, either. They're entertained.
I laugh at alot of these horror movies only a couple stick with you in your house when youre alone and in the dark. I know the soundtrack for insidious made my skin crawl
Being scared in a controlled environment is a form of entertainment, the one most people search for when they are watching an horror movie.
True. After the first Chucky movie it was WAAAAAAY too much backstory & terrible humor

Where the fuck is The Thing? Not only the best horror, but one of the best movies ever made.
I completely agree. A brilliant examination of paranoia, as well as some if the best special effects of all time.
dandycliff2 agree.
It's a sci-fi/horror masterpiece.
dandycliff2 I knew there was a The Thing comment around here somewhere! I totally agree with you!
dandycliff2 Love Kurt Russel in that movie. Fantastic film. The remake was not good at all I thought.
Linda Blair did a commendable job in excorist not only all the production crew .
She was frightening as hell !
My brothers used to make me watch it when I was younger that I actually hated them. Till this day , I still won't watch it.
